Etrian Odyssey IV’s Arcanist Class Steps Up To The Plate

By Ishaan . February 15, 2013 . 10:00am

Atlus have shared a promo video for Etrian Odyssey IV, highlighting yet another of the selectable classes in the game. This time, it’s the Arcanist, which is a sorcerer class that is capable of dealing party-wide damage to the enemy:

Etrian Odyssey IV will be released on February 26th in North America and sometime this Spring in Europe.

and yes it’s coming to europe too:)

  • Zarx

They kinda remind me of Hexers which is pretty good imo.

  • Tachimukai

Arcanists need food badly. Seriously they look so thin, they need to eat something.

Always happy to have a debuffer on the team though.

  • Suicunesol

    Oh my Go-
    She’s literally a stick figure.

  • Charmchar

The girl versions are so pretty… I must have this game.

  • I know this may sound silly but can someone please tell me who is publishing this game in Europe? Is it Atlus?

Coz Atlus rarely publishes their games in Europe by themselves :P

    • Farid Belkacemi

      Nintendo :)

Edit : And I HOPE they will also publish SMT IV (and Soul hackers) in the not so distant future !

      • Thanks! I do hope so as well :)

        • Farid Belkacemi

Seems like I made a mistake : either Nintendo is indeed publishing or we don’t know who has the publishing rights yet. After watching the ND a second time, Satoru Shibata says something like “here are some publisher/published (?) titles”… Wait and see :p

          • Yeah, and that’s what drove me to ask the question in the first place ahah, but then I thought I prolly misheard and didn’t think much of it ;)

            Thanks again!

    • Atlus? *laugh really loud*

      • lol yeah I know this idea sounded really stupid, but since I couldn’t find any infortmation regarding who’d be publishing this, I just had to ask really.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Definitely adding one to my party. I love debuffs.

    • CirnoLakes

I remember when I was a kid I hardly every used “buffs” or “debuffs”. Except maybe Final Fantasy VIII which forced me to use them a lot. I just plowed through Pokemon games only focusing on attacks.

Now that I’ve become older, I love the heck out of it. And I realize the huge time waster than is these secondary effect spells have become me. I spend so much more time playing games because I’m looking for that extra inch of attack or defense. I’m almost disappointed when battles end sometimes, because by that time my characters were basically gods with ridiculous stats.

And of course, I go into the next battle, and it starts all over. Huge time sink.

  • Ashurei

Dear US fans: Make one and sub it as a medic.
    Thank me later.

    • Quadsdat

Personally, I find that as a backup healer, their class skills are good enough. I prefer to sub nightseeker to really make use of their insane Luk state, the ultimate debuffer!

      • Ashurei

One of the things I really love about 4 is how many viable options there are. I don’t know anyone who’s played it the same, frankly. I have mine as my main healer and don’t have a backup; no need of one! Fort’s capacity to protect the party and dodge rate is ridiculous and the 3 DPS sorts do their job wonderfully. :)

        • Quadsdat

I agree! One of the things I love about this game is that I can get lost just trying out different party compositions for weeks!

I ended up disliking the Fortress class in EO4 because of their focus on sponging the party’s damage rather than mitigating it. It didn’t play well into my style and I also foresaw problems regarding endgame bosses. So now with the lack of a dedicated tank, my medic alone couldn’t handle keeping my party alive. That’s where the Arcanist came in and filled in the last spot perfectly. Love them.

  • AkuLord3

I really like the Arcanist. Design (yes yes skinny blah blah need food whatever) and their ablilites. Probably my favorite class in the game so i can’t to unlock them

  • xXDGFXx

When I get the game, I shall start over from my demo save and rename my team “LoliSquad”

It shall be the most unstoppable party ever!

  • Crevox

    Would buy if I had a 3DS.

  • EverEndingStory

First time watching the trailer, I was honestly just listening to the music.

The Arcanist, Bushi, and the Gunblade are incredibly interesting to work with. Mess around with them enough and you could have an incredibly deadly strategy.

  • Insigma

The Arcanist, Bushi, and the Gunblade are incedibly interesting to work
with. Mess around with them enough and you could have a seriously
    deadly strategy.

  • CirnoLakes

If I ever stumble onto millions of dollars, remind me to hire the character designer for this game.

Because I would be starting a game company and want this talent.
