Check Out Caladrius, The Next Shooter From The Makers Of Raiden

Moss, the developers of the Raiden series, has a new vertical scrolling shooter in the works. Caladrius has three playable characters Maria Bloomfield, Kei Percival, and Alex Martin. All of the characters were drawn by Durarara!! and Devil Survivor artist Suzuhito Yasuda.

 

Caladrius comes out on April 25 for Xbox 360.

      Region free would be ideal, but even if it isn’t MOSS has been pretty good with releasing games to NA with UFO Interactive. (examples: Raiden III & IV) UFO also released other niche titled games like Ultimate Shooting Collection (Wii), SNK Shooting All Stars (PSP), and even that crazy Monkey King game (kinda good though) on the Wii

    Yasuda’s starting to show some alarming symptoms of Toriyama syndrome, in that a lot of his characters look shockingly similar to one another across different games. I wish he’d do something different for a change. I mean, I love his character designs and I get why they’re popular. Just… they’re a little too easily identifiable.

      I don’t follow the artist so I wouldn’t know, but I would guess that a shmup dev would want his work to be instantly recognisable by fans.

      I don’t really mind an artist having an easily recognizable style. It’s kind of a compliment that you can tell who it is just by looking, and really not that different than a lot of artists in games who have built up a reputation with a consistent style (Yoshitaka Amano, Tony Taka, etc.). Or not just games, art as a whole – i.e. I can tell a Picasso when I see one and I don’t think that is a legitimate knock on Picasso.

        It’s true easily recognizable style is a compliment,
        but if the characters look similar to characters that the artist made before then it’s getting boring quickly.

        Let’s take your example Yoshitaka Amano has a recognizable style. I know it’s his design and I love him If he made a whole other character using the same style (let’s compare Angel’s Egg and FF V for example).

        But, Tony Taka, if I have to be honest I can’t differentiate his characters. Yes, his drawing pretty and I love the colors but try google his stuff and if his characters wear similar clothes (i.e blonde with white bikini) I need longer time to recognize every one of them.

        I think that’s what he means by “shockingly similar to one another”

        I agree that it isn’t all that different from a lot of other artists, but it would be nice to see some variety nonetheless. I think a talented artist should be able to come up with varying character designs even within the same art style.

        Like… Jim Lee, for instance. Or on the Japanese side, even Shigenori Soejima or Nomura. They’ve both got a very consistent and identifiable style but it doesn’t limit their character designs.

      Have to agree with this. That character looks exactly like the hero from Devil Survivor 2. There’s nothing wrong with having an identifiable style, but there is something wrong with basically recreating your past work.

    The original screenshots didn’t grab me but this trailer does.

    The game reminds me slightly of Exceed 3rd BP but with more proffessional per-zaz (and I mean that as a compliment in everyway)

    Since PAL never got any of the Raidens will we be 3rd time lucky?

    Oh, right, all the developers from Seibu defected to Moss! Completely forgot.

    Composition by Basiscape, but I hope the OST album has individual song credits; I’m curious whether Sakimoto will allow himself to personally get roped into making another STG soundtrack. Last time that happened, we got Gradius V. Mmmm, Gradius V…
