Chaos Field Developer Milestone Has Closed, Company President Arrested

By Spencer . March 21, 2013 . 5:30pm

Remember Ultimate Shooting Collection? UFO Interactive brought over that compilation which included shooters Chaos Field, Radligy, and Karous for Wii. That was from Milestone, the company that also made Tank Beat and the oddball eroge fighter Twinkle Queen.

Milestone also released Project Cerberus for PSP and their last game was a speed reading game for the DS. The reason why Milestone is out of business is quite different from other publishers. The company’s president, Hiroshi Kimura, also started a bio energy company called MS Bio Energy which was constructing a bio-ethanol plant in Vietnam. Milestone violated the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act when selling securities for the new company and Kimura has been arrested.

Milestone recently shut down their website too indicating that the arcade/game division is also out of business.

    well that’s…. random as fuck

    • TrevHead

It’s been a random as fuck week for STG.

I still can’t wrap my head around ketsui coming to PS3

    • Says the one with Vince Russo as their avatar.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Hey did u ever hold a title belt? He wrote himself one.

      • sibarraz

Great, now I’m sad that we will never see a russo’s storyline where some wrestler has to forfeit his title because he was arrested for owning an slavery field on some country in africa

  • PABLO Rapetti Perez

First time I heard of a Game Development company president getting arrested. We can learn from this that there is such a thing as too much gaming.

    • Must not have read about Gizmondo. :P

      • PABLO Rapetti Perez

        What happened with Gizmondo?

        • The president was part of the Mafia, and crashed his Ferrari, got arrested. :P Wikipedia shows this, you can likely find official reports via Google as well. :)

          • Juan Andrés Valencia

It doesn’t help that the system was horrendous.

    • JonathanisPrimus

Wasn’t the first, won’t be the last. Smilesoft has a particularly disturbing way out.

    • Cazar

What does this have to do with too much gaming? He was arrested for something completely unrelated to gaming.

  • Guest

    well, that’s random

  • But anyway, I was a big fan of Milestone! I wanted Milestone Shooting Collection 2 to come over. :'(

Hope the other folks can come back together under a new company, I heard the audio guys also left a long while back.

  • Oh my god, I really liked their sound team :/ Kou Hayashi and Daisuke Nagata made some of my favorite music. I was really wondering what the company was up to and now I read this.

  • Suicunesol

So what happens to their IP then? Do they get sold like THQ’s, or do they just vanish?

  • Zonic505

Well that sure came out of nowhere. It also reminded me I should find Ultimate Shooting Collection one of these days.

  • TrevHead

Well that sucks, it’s all doom and gloom for top tier Shmup devs isnt it? Even many of the fans are saying it won’t be long till CAVE close shop and that Dodonpachi Saidaiujou is to be their swan song and that collection is just stock clearance (which I hope is all incorrect)

Worst thing is that I’ve never played a milestone STG, I was hoping one would make it’s way to the 360, I guess that’l never happen now :(

    • superdry

I wonder how CAVE is doing with their iOS ports. That and doing social media gaming is probably propping them up right now.

    • Trust me, you’re not missing anything.

    • FYI, Radirgy Noa Massive came out for 360 in October 2010.
…It’s been so long that you might actually have trouble finding a copy outside of Amazon Japan…

    • malek86

From what I played of their games, I wouldn’t have exactly considered Milestone a top-tier shmup dev… still, I guess there isn’t much market for shmups anymore, that much is true. I don’t thinkCave will close anytime soon, but it’s possible that they’ll become a mobile-only developer. I think their iOS games have been doing decently.

  • revenent hell

This would have been….the last thing I would have thought…….
Man just when you think you have heard it all.
Hopefully the IP’s will get sold off or something later since it would be a shame for them to just disappear…..I’m sure their fans hope so at least

  • Julien_N

Wow, that was really surprising. I knew Milestone was more or less dead when they closed their website and didn’t give more information about the hypothetical Karous 3DS but the CEO’s arrest came out of nowhere!

That’s a shame that Milestone is no more as their STGs were very cool, and fun to play… (especially Radirgy, Illvelo and Karous)

this is strange, why did the company shut down because of that when someone else could have just taken over
