About Ryu winning the most popular character, is this related to the ‘which Street Fighter character you like’ posted in Capcom Unity?

I kinda wish that someone like Ibuki or Dudley to win.

    • Adol Christin

Ryu is easily the most popular character in SF. Only Chun Li comes close. I like Ibuki too, but she’s not gonna win this.

      • z_merquise

Yeah, you’re right. It’s just that I mostly preferred cool non-main characters (or the underrated ones) to win in character polls.

    • Kyle Silva

      Bison got robbed.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

He gone Turbo once. No one will let that fly. Even if he was voiced by Norio Wakamoto.

  • AkuLord3

Geez ANOTHER Update for SSFIV? eh figure they use the time to make SF5 but whatever also Ryu voted as most Popular? don’t get me wrong i don’t mind ryu but there are too many characters (movesets and looks) better than him *shrugs*

    • Richard N

I think it goes without saying that there are tons of other characters that play and look better than Ryu. But you gotta respect the original old g and no matter who or how old you are, you’ll always remember how to throw a Hadouken.

    • Adam I.

Yoshinori Ono already said they don’t want to rush into SF5, and that they’re testing the waters (re:the next gen consoles) with that Deep Down game or whatever it was called that they showed at the PS4 event.

  • Adol Christin

Ryu is one of my fav video game characters :) Ryu and Chun Li 4ever.

Makoto would like to have a word with you :3

      • Adol Christin

I like her too :) but Ryu x Chun Li is just so… :P

      • shion16

        Ibuki would beat her

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Heh. This game is just never going to die.

    • DCBlackbird

it may just outlive me 0_0

    • shion16

      Its just too fun.

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

They should just make a new one already.

        • shion16

At the end of a generation of consoles?
          I dont think so.

        • ShinStar

We have to wait until 2018 until they can announce SFV. That seemed to be the gap (10 years) between the SFIII series and SFIV.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      Hint the name Super

    • Shane Guidaboni

It doesn’t need to when it’s still so popular. Fighting games don’t really ever have to die because they have infinite replay value if made with good balance and even if they aren’t.

  • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

To be honest I’m not particularly a fan of SF4, but it’s still really cool to see Capcom’s continued support for the game and its fanbase. (At least assuming this is a free balance patch and not a cash grab. =P )

  • Sentsuizan_93

    …..Why am I not surprised?

  • videoman190

So Ryu is the most popular what about the other characters? Also when they going to fix the stupid copyright against Karin?

    • raymk

They don’t matter because its Ryu obviously. I mean its so surprising that ryu is the most popular character that I popped a blood vein >_>.

  • SpecDotSign

I swear if they nerf Cammy I’m going to BibleThump and SwiftRage everywhere.

    • Ty Austin

I almost guarantee you they will nerf her, considering she’s one of the best characters in the game.

      • SpecDotSign

I’m pretty sure the community will complain enough for Capcom to nerf her. Gosh. If they nerf her, Capcom better nerf Fie-Long as well.

        • Ty Austin

Agreed. It doesn’t make much differences anyways, regardless of who you nerf, someone will rise up and take the spot of top tier.

I just want them to fix unblockables.

          • SpecDotSign

I wouldn’t mind if they give Ryu his godlike status from vanilla SF4. And yes, I really do hope they fix the unblockables.

          • Ty Austin

Eh, I guess Ryu’s still pretty good. Daigo and Air still play him (I think?) Now I would love to see Ryu being top tier in Marvel. :)

  • ThomasTruong

“Capcom announced that Ryu was voted as the most popular character.”

“In other news, Capcom also announced that water was wet.”

  • anarchy_panty

AE 2012 is incredibly balanced already… I hope they don’t manage to screw that up with this.

    • ShinStar

The only thing I want them to “balance” is to let Juri control her EX Dive Kick while NOT using the Feng Shui Engine. It doesn’t seem worth it and defeats the Ultra’s original purpose.

    • Ty Austin

Actually, it’s not really that balanced anymore. Due to the discovery of unblockables, most of the characters with vortexes are considered top tier.

Another version… and I bet they STILL won’t include any of the DLC.

    • raymk

HUH? I don’t get what your trying to say. This is an update patch what kind of DLC are you talking about.

  • ShinStar

It’d be nice if they could fill those 2 “extra” character slots….

  • Jonathan Keycross

Its great to think Capcom is still working on SF4 considering that SF vs Tekken is their last fighting game (ports aside).

I doubt the patch is gonna make my game any easier though… (I main El Fuerte btw).

  • Göran Isacson

On the one hand I kinda feel like “eh, Ryu? Mister Plain?” But on the other hand, yeah, Ryu. Mister Plain. The one we trained our fighting fingers on, the one who’s stuck with the series through thick and thin, the face of the franchise. Of course he’s gonna be the most popular, he’s kinda earned it. I may complain that my fav didn’t make it, but if you take a moment to think about it, how COULD you begrudge Ryu his popularity? Not I. Not I. You’re okay with me, Gi-boy.

Also geez, another patch? Is the game THAT popular that it still warrants an update? That’s kinda impressive.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Nocandoken?

  • http://shadious.tumblr.com/ Vince

Ryu voted the most popular Street Fighter?

Though there are those who beg to differ:

  • Keybler Elf Jr

    I love this game

  • http://www.facebook.com/FERCS Fer Carlo

I’m really surprised that people are surprised with Ryu being the most popular character. It’s like saying that they are surprised the world is round. Granted he is really boring but there is no contest that Ryu is the face of Street Fighter.

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I like Ryu but it’s annoying how he is rebooted in every single film adaptation and IV. He already overcame the Satsui no Hadou back in Alpha 3 why does Capcom want to exlpoit it?

    • Armane

I don’t think it’s genuine surprise. I think some people were hoping the poll might influence future games or updates to current ones so they tried to vote in the more obscure characters. Like why vote for Ryu when he’s going to be in every SF game and Capcom fighting game? Better off voting for obscure characters to show there’s a demand for them.

  • O.O

my dream is a cellshaded street fighter with anime naruto like graphics ooo the ultras in those will be so amazing

  • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

“Capcom announced that Ryu was voted as the most popular character.”

Daigo Umehara was behind all this. :p

  • David Hill

I think they should add three, maybe six, new color schemes. There are already ten color schemes in Street Fighter IV. Street Fighter III has thirteen color schemes for each character.
