Project Versus J, Namco Bandai’s crossover fighting game featuring Jump characters, has an official title now. It’s titled J-Stars Victory Vs., according to the latest issue of Jump.

Additionally, Naruto has been confirmed as part of the game’s cast of characters. Prior to this, Dragon Ball’s Goku, One Piece’s Luffy and Toriko (from Toriko) were confirmed to be in the game as well.

J-Stars Victory Vs. will be a 3D tag-team fighter and will let up to four players fight each other. The game is slated for release on the PlayStation 3 and Vita.

  • That’s a lot of orange.

    • zweii

      Its the new Brown.

      • Jesus Christ, how horrible.

      • Hm. More like the new red, which is another popular outfit color for action protagonists, especially in video games.

  • Does this have anything to do with Jump Superstars, apart from being a Shonen Jump fighting game? If so, I’m interested.

    • NimbusStev

Well it’s a different developer and it’s 3D rather than 2D… but yeah, I’m sure there will be some similarities. Think more Battle Stadium DON than Jump Stars.

      • British_Otaku

Do we know who the developer of this game is?

        • NimbusStev

Hmm I guess they haven’t officially announced the developer, just that it’s being published by Bandai Namco. My guess is CyberConnect2 though, since they had them work on Naruto and JoJos.

    • Bobby Jennings

      Yes it does. :D

  • Michael Cadogan

I’m pretty pumped for this game. Though I’m honestly just praying Gintama gets thrown in just like it was in Jump Ultimate.

    • ronin4life

      I miss Gintama… I really don’t feel like watching the anime though…>.>
      Damn you, Viz…

      • KyoyaHibari

Why won’t you watch the anime?

        • ronin4life

ehh… I watched the first 2 episodes, but I just don’t really feel like *watching * it. I want to read it. Gintama was my favorite manga, maybe ever. The fact that they canceled it is something that is still depressing to me…Silly perhaps, but it all just keeps me from wanting to watch it. T.T

          • KyoyaHibari

It’s not cancelled, it’s just that the staff has to take breaks from the series because of how strenuous it is with the zany comedy and insane fight sequences. Gin Tama has taken hiatuses numerous times, and at this point with the current season’s final episode, it leaves off on a more morose and steady note, like they are certain it will continue this time as opposed to the constant 4th wall episodes.

  • TheExile285

I want Ichigo from Bleach and Rin from Blue Exorcist in this. Make it happen Japan.

    • I think that this game has characters ONLY from Weekly Shonen Jump’s series.

    • raymk

As starfang said, but at least you get ichigo which I’m positive will be in the game.

  • ronin4life

So… is it like Power Stone?

  • Robert Hendrie

    I’m on team lufiko

  • Battle Stadium D.O.N.T.

  • I’m just glad to get some news for this game, I’m so f&#kin pumped. Jump Ultimate Stars is my favorite game on the DS, so if this plays as great as that I will cream myself.

  • ThomasTruong

If you want a giant kerfuffle, check out any discussion thread Shonen Jump fan communities right now (not going namedrop any). People jumping up and down for secondary One Piece/Naruto characters or characters from other Jump series and decrying anyone who disagrees.

    • Sounds like your average Wednesday for Jump fans.

  • Zonic505

Hoping for a trailer soon. Considering Namco’s been doing an awesome job so far with Jojo All-Star Battle feeling like the anime/manga, really hope the same is done with this.

& now comes the part where we wait to hear the full roster.

  • KingRuff

Hope Tsuna is part of this. I was disappointed in him from Ultimate Stars, but that was because he hadn’t shown anything yet when the game was being made. His series is over so hopefully he makes an appearance here at his full power.

    • British_Otaku

In the grand scheme of things, Toriko here and probably all of the characters including Goku (Super Saiyan God *rolls eyes*) are also going to be weak in comparison to whatever he becomes (at least one transformation?). It can’t be helped that your favourite character(s) may have a poor showing when a game comes around.

Don’t expect to see a character represented with all of their power or even a balanced sample for the game’s sake. :/

I’m hoping for an engaging game, perhaps some of my favourites from obvious long runners, well known classics and recent works which are doing pretty well like Assassination Classroom or Kuroko no Basket.

      • KingRuff

Whoa, you make it sound like I said I would be devastated if he wasn’t here! As long as the roster is varied and not full of characters from one series, that’s good with me.

        • British_Otaku

I didn’t believe that you would be devastated by a lack of Tsuna or his final abilities. I was simply musing on how often it is that a video game misses out details from another medium, more especially in crossovers and even Dragon Ball a work which has ended still gets new content which is unlikely to be translated into the game. Aside from mechanics like flight, being invincible in the face of blunt attacks and such which almost definitely won’t make it in any form.

We will be lucky to get a decent representation even currently for Tsuna, though I’ll have fun whether it is the Jump Super Stars weak-but-will-fight-with-dying-will Tsuna or later on.

It’s better to have your hopes down and get surprised. >_>
I’m sure everyone here wants to see a healthy cast with a bit of everything.

  • D-Rev

Can Beelzebub character get in this? I hope so…

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Its going to look super realistic

  • raymk

So this is a tag team fighter only? We can’t do 4 player battle royal type matches I guess.

    • Bobby Jennings

      Battle Royals are still in.

      • raymk

Ok thanks, he should have mentioned that before saying its a 3D tag team fighter. Either way I’m still getting it as long as it plays well.

        • Bobby Jennings

Well that’s how it is described. But I’m sure that Battle Royals will still be in the game.

          • raymk

            oh ok

  • As long as Gintama and Reborn characters are here, its fine

    • shion16

      Dont worry
      I’ll be there
      Ps: Im not Gin san

  • ivanchu77

I hope they put saint seiya, medaka box and puella magi madoka characters

    • HerosLight

Puella Magi Madoka isn’t part of JUMP. So that won’t be happening.

  • DCBlackbird

so is this the manga fans injustice(the video game)?

    • I suppose, in the sense of both being crossover action/fighting games.

    • British_Otaku

In a sense yes. Injustice is pulling exclusively from DC’s catalogue of heroes and villains. This will be also pulling from only one magazine or perhaps one publisher for some heroes (and villains?).

It hardly represents all of manga or will have someone every manga fan will know (perhaps everyone knows Goku… >_>).

Anyway, we have had crossover video games based on manga prior to Injustice such as the 2005 Jump Super Stars game (Ultimate Stars released in 2006). Or Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden ( ) from the late 80s. My examples are exclusively based on one magazine/publisher, I’m sure you got the point that crossovers are common enough.

      • DCBlackbird

In the hours that passed i researched this game…i see while injustice is a gathering of the universe. This title is a crossover of shonens titles

        • raymk

          That is correct.

  • NimbusStev

I wonder if this will have any chance of a worldwide release. I know JUS lost its chance due to ‘licensing issues’ but that was years ago and this is Namco Bandai… you’d think they’d own most of these licenses. Either way, it’s a good thing the PS3 is region-free!

    • Spirit Macardi

Well, all the series are owned in the US by Funimation and/or Viz Media so there’s a chance there.

Now getting the game dubbed would be an issue, since Naruto uses union voice actors, while One Piece, Toriko, and Dragonball are all non-union. Getting the two to work together is… Unlikely, unless the key Naruto actors are merely fi-core and not full union members (I know Yuri Lowenthal is, but that’s it).

      • raymk

Well that’s only true for now, this game will have more than the 4 series listed and that’s been known since long ago when they had a character poll for who fans would like to see in the game.

      • NimbusStev

I think the licensing works differently when it comes to video games. Bandai Namco has published Dragon Ball, Naruto and One Piece games in the recent past, so there seems to be a pretty good chance there.

But yeah, I don’t know about the voice actors. Like you mentioned, that will probably be a bit tricky.

  • Jesse Torres

The graphics on the picture look very interesting.

  • Haseyo

Now we just need to see a video of it in action. All these magazine teases.

    • HerosLight

Now that they have 4 characters revealed, they NEED to show some gameplay soon.

  • HerosLight

Just announce Gintoki, Medaka, Train Heartnet already!
And some secondary characters in there too!

I’m also glad they changed the name. I’m really hyped for this game. Been waiting for a proper sequel to Jump Ultimate Stars.

They better have Online mode/Cross Play since its also for Vita.

  • Internet is Crash

I hope Kuro-sensei and Neuro makes it in to the game and possibly Kiruko from Rookie Policewoman Kiruko-san (but I doubt since she’s still FRESH and kinda low on the rankings). Oh and obligatory I want characters from HxH, Medaka Box, Gintama, Reborn!, Rurouni Kenshin, and JJBA.

  • s07195

And then Korosensei from Assassination Classroom gets announced. :D
Hah, Mach 8 speed anyone? Though that doesn’t seem to be a concern for many Jump stars.

    • Devonte Griffith

This. He’d be the largest character in the game, but with faster attacks and speed.

  • Maybe if the Vita version can get localized, sales can be strong enough to fuel a real Naruto game for the handheld. I love the Ultimate Ninja series, but Impact was crap.

  • $4296551

    Hunter x Hunter
    YuYu Hakusho
    Hitman Reborn
    make it happen.

  • Yu_TheKing

A simultaneous release may be asking for much so gimme Fall 2013 :)?

    Also needs more Tsuna

  • KuchikiSentou

    Bring Ichigo!!
    And Byakuya!!
    And Itachi!!

  • anthony apduhan

I want Hiruma Yoichi to be in this game coz he has guns LOTS OF GUNS! YA-HA!

  • Oversoul

I saw the pose and the thing on the character’s back and almost flipped out
I thought it was Kazuma from Scryed
    but its just luffy :|

  • Lee Chueng

    Tsuna>Hitman Reborn

    Must have in it!

  • ShadowDivz

…. Is what you want to hear. xD

  • Richard Evans

I hope it has as much characters as Jump Ultimate did…

  • Lousy Fellow

One Punch Man should make a appearance as an invincible joke character, just for kicks.
