Introducing Acquire’s Dark And Stylish Characters From MIND≒0

By Sato . March 28, 2013 . 12:52am

Acquire have recently opened their MIND≒0’s official website which gives us a closer look at the characters and their backgrounds.

A quick correction to our previous report, the names Yue Kotori and Shishi Asahina has been changed. The kanji reading was correct from the original source but Acquire went with a different reading style (for example, ‘Shishi’ is another word for lion, but the name ended up being ‘Leo’)

Kei Takanashi

Age: 17

008 009

Kei is the main character of MIND≒0. He is often misunderstood due to his cool nature, but in the end he’s the type of guy that can’t overlook anyone in trouble. Kei has a childhood friend and others that take good care of him, as trouble seems to find him every chance it gets.

Sana Chikage

Age: 16

010 011

A sporty girl who likes to move her body. She’s a straight-forward character who tends to act on impulse without realizing it. Sana has a strong sense of responsibility and is often relied upon by her classmates and teachers.

Leo Asahina

Age: 16

012 013

The cheerful high-spirited young man, who is also somewhat of a fool. He believes that the reason he grew taller is thanks to an infomercial product he purchased, a supplement pill called “Height Grooowth”. Unexpectedly, he has a very keen sense of perception and his guesses tend to be spot on.

He’s known Kei since Middle school and has always been considered bad company.

Yoichi Ogata

Age: Unknown (Around 40)

014 015

Yoichi is an adult with dignity, who can always be relied upon. He runs a detective agency and is often seen frowning. Despite his serious looks, he knows how to take a joke. While investigating a strange case regarding “MIND”, he met up with Kei and friends, then decided to work together with the kids. It is said that he has some sort of secret surrounding his past.

MIND≒0 is currently being developed for Playstation Vita and is slated for a summer release in Japan.

  • My goodness, just by reading the character bios and looking at the character design and art style alone I want this game. I hope we get a video of the game soon.

    • Yuriangels

      dat scythe!!

      • Yeah! Everything looks so cool =)

  • Raze

The old man got a robotic fairy with a vulcan and a hammer?
Now I really wonder how they set this Mind=0 thing…
Is it just random or what?

    • Solomon_Kano

      I don’t think that’s a hammer. Looks like the other arm’s a sniper rifle.

  • Perusona feel

    • Suriel Cruz

  • puchinri

Sana sounds like Chie and Mana’s lovechild.
    Diggin the designs overall~.

    • Detrimont

i get chie, but what, or who is Mana?

      • CirnoTheStrongest

I think they meant to say Maya, as in from Persona 2

      • puchinri

Mana from the new season of PreCure. She’s relied on by everyone around her, adults included, and has a strong sense of responsibility (I’d say she’s also a bit impulsive, but it isn’t as much a distinct character note as those other two things are).

  • IshimaruKaito

    OMG!! this look smexy!!

  • noctis_nox

    Wow! I love the scythe!
One of my most anticipated game right now.

  • DanteJones

This seems oddly familiar, especially Sana…

  • Z3

I guess if this wasn’t in high school, it wouldn’t be as much compared to persona

    • KiTA

Pretty Much. They’re wearing school uniforms, which in Japan is fairly common. It would be like American gamers comparing everything to Die Hard because hey, they’re wearing BLUE JEANS.

Having said that, yeah, it does kinda remind me of Persona. I’m ok with that. Acquire does great Wizardry clones, and this looks like it will be spot on.

    • Its not just the high school, dude.

    • Have you been paying attention? Kei is basically the main character from Persona 3, and Leo’s quite possibly a lost twin brother of Yosuke from Persona 4. Even their character bios area a match. That, plus the overall style and the presence of ethereal figures helping humans in battle are also suspiciously similar.

Come on, admit it. We’re not saying the game’s going to suck, we’re just not pretending to ignore something which is quite obvious to anyone who played Persona before. Why so defensive? Or can you seriously NOT see all the similarities as anything other than conincidences?

      • I think it’s just the mentality that some people take where if it is anything like another franchise, it must suck. That’s not correct, I mean we have many shooters that are pretty much exactly like each other and are by leaps and bounds better than the original game that inspired them.

By all means this looks like it could be a lot of fun and it’s about time someone else used the Persona formula.

  • KiTA

So for those wondering, the title of this game is read as “Mind Approximately Equal To Zero.” That’s what that particular symbol means, if I remember my math classes right.

  • Syn

I honestly thought leo was the hero, glad the Scythe wielding cool dude is tho, really like that scythe, the minds to have a persona feel/look to them, but not enough to put me off, all hail alter ego(AE, i called it first (*_*) just like how all monster raising games are compared to pokemon) raising games!!!

    • “all hail alter ego(AE, i called it first (*_*) just like how all monster raising games are compared to pokemon) raising games!!!”

It would be quite funny if “alter ego games” actually became a genre, just like hunting games did :-)

  • HassanJamal

Whoever designed their characters….hes pretty good.

You can have a look at more of his/her art here.

      • xavier axol

        thanks!, that looks great.

      • xXDGFXx

So many pretty girls as the main focus @[email protected]

        • angelx03

That guy must be a huge Pretty Cure, Marimite, and yuri in general fan.

      • HassanJamal

Gracias, I like on one of his illustrations, Kat’s at the top :) Also, some NSFW images are in there folks so caution.

  • Raika Souku

male protag scythe personish looks im getting this

  • Tom_Phoenix

    PERSONA!…….Woops, wrong game! Errr……MIND!

  • Herlo Rerelo

Vita? higher chance of localization! please localize this!

  • gustave154

  • C_Diamond

I believe this is like 7th dragon.

First person view on enemy and attacking/skills third person.

  • TheExile285

I’m very interested in this. Hope it gets localized.

  • Junko Enoshima

I wonder if any of them are purse owners.

  • Lee Chueng

interested in it. hoping it comes to NA

    • AdachiTohru

      And Europe

  • Andy

The lead characters persona or whatever their calling it in this game some how reminds me of Witchblade.

  • The Persona references are cool and I have to say that it’s about time another game used these mechanics! I’m quite excited to see how this one will turn out and hopefully it will be brought over here for us Westerners (and Europeans) to play!

  • Peeka Chu

Really, really want this. People keep screaming Persona when there are a zillion JRPGs and animes (in particular) that deal with uniformed high-school students with supernatural powers.

Oh, and my gripe with Persona, and why those games take so long for me to finish are the darned sim elements. Combat makes up 10% of the game, if even, and that’s what I enjoy in RPGs. From what I’ve read so far, this game is far more combat oriented.

Pretty sure it will get a western release. Either XSEED or Aksys, if I had to place a guess.

    • I think recognizing that a big aspect of P3/P4 is the whole simulation aspect and acknowledging it is a big deal. Mostly in that passive play shows a sort of… numbed awareness of how much dialog and spoken details are larger factors in Persona. The story is the game in a greater sense.

I don’t begrudge their success, but I do think the distinction is important as people then play games with more active mechanics that are even less open to passive play. I would hope this game plays to different strengths and is, well, a different take on the idea.

  • Strain42

…See, I’m actually TRYING not to get a Persona feel from this, and I’m failing…and I’m sorry. It’s not helped by the fact that the art style LOOKS like Soejima’s to the point where I feel I have to ask if this is Soejima.

Also, what is it with Japan and the whole “misunderstood because of their cool nature.” thing? Has that EVER happened? Why can’t we get a character who is misunderstood because they seem like a genuine outcast weirdo.

  • Strain42

Also I just wanna say that I got a pretty big laugh out of the first line of Yoichi’s description. He’s an adult. With dignity. It almost sounds sarcastic.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    So fresh so clean

  • Lazulis

Scythe. Tonfas. I love this game already.

  • Solomon_Kano

She has tonfas! TONFAS! Can’t wait to see more of this.

  • Pombar

Scythe, Tonfa, Fist and Assault Rifle. Interesting weapon mix, at least!

  • I hope this comes out in America, looks great so far!

  • Neppygear

Mm, I’m very much looking forward to Not Persona 3, yes. Not Aigis looks very fun.

  • Göran Isacson

Kinda cool how they apparently have this adult dude and he’s just… a part of the team, no mysterious mentor or anything, just someone who happened to awaken these powers at the same time as they did. I dunno, I just think that can make for some fun and unexpected developments.

  • ShadowDivz

I wonder if Kei keeps every promise he makes.

    • AdachiTohru

Like all the shonen heroes, i’d say yes ^^

  • Lester Paredes

It has a definite dash of Persona. Which is a flavor i can’t get enough of, so it’s not a bad thing. Bring it on, Acquire!
