Soul Sacrifice’s Massive April Update Adds New Monsters And An Area To Explore

By Sato . March 29, 2013 . 1:33am

We recently showed a few sneak peeks of what to expect in Soul Sacrifice’s major update on April 4th. Producer Kentarou Motomura recently gave a closer look at what we’ll be getting in the update.

The main monsters that will be awaiting judgment are Dullahan and Behemoth.

As previously reported, the area that pits you inside a giant’s body will also be included in the update.

The forbidden technique, known as Berserk, will also be implemented in Soul Sacrifice. Berserk is a powerful and useful ability that forms a tornado around your character that sucks up enemies and attacks them at the same time. However, it will require a sacrifice of the character’s knowledge, as the player will lose sense of the magic they have set. In other words, you won’t be able to tell which button does which magic after using Berserk.

In addition to the in-game features, the major update will include various game play options. Previously, Soul Sacrifice could only be played multiplayer via WI-FI. This update will include an Adhoc multiplayer option, allowing you to play wirelessly.

There’s also a new social media feature that lets you post how many monsters you’ve sacrificed and saved, once a day on Twitter and Facebook. Doing so will grant you an item called “Libram’s Tear”, which can be used to reduce the level of either life-force or magic on your character.

Another additional feature that allows you to get more Libram’s Tears is in the newly added AR play card mini-game, featuring collectable spirits that can be traded for the tears.

A few fixes and options have also been implemented:

  • You can now dodge while aiming a long-ranged spell.
  • Additional option menu choices.
  • Camera speed is now adjustable.
  • Using spells that require you to hold buttons for a longer period of time doesn’t restrict you to using the right stick, as you can use the directional pad too.
  • You can now collect Libram’s Tears during Multiplayer Mode, without having to leave the game.
  • The X and R buttons are now interchangeable in Key Config.

In addition to the Behemoth and Dullahan, Soul Sacrifice will have several more monsters in the near future, through free updates. Here’s a look at the silhouettes of some of the upcoming downloadable monsters:

Soul Sacrifice is slated for release on April 30th in North America and May 1st in Europe.

      MAGI!! <3

    • Go2hell66

      i blame monster hunter

      • Why blame Monster Hunter? What did it do to you?

      • Exkaiser

…you blame monster hunter because this game is getting quite a bit of post-release content? Huh?

        • Go2hell66

    • That guy who hates Spike

I was watching this up to about episode 10. I found it kinda boring. Do things get better?

      • Kefkiroth

It hardly follows the manga at all, and it’s currently set up for an original ending.
I don’t think it’s worth it, just another butchered adaption by A-1. Though it is decently entertaining.

  • Curan_Altea

An ability called berserk? No one will point out a connection to anything else.

It’s awesome that they’re adding so much content to this game so soon. I plan to play it for months, and maybe years, to come.

    • Abyan Haidar

      make it decades

  • Draparde

how lovely~ makes me excited to be getting into this game when it comes out. with this and monster hunter, hopefully my hunting itch will be scratched for some time!

  • Crevox

“Soul Sacrifice’s Massive April Adds New Monsters And An Isle To Explore”

    That is one massive april

    • Then, April 1st will be the beginning of a new age for trolls! My god, we are doomed!

  • badmoogle

This game has some of the most original monster designs i’ve ever seen in dark fantasy games.Congrats to their concept art team.
I only wish the game was designed with more exploration in mind.

    • BloodTorrent

Exploration isn’t part of the genre. If you want that, go play Dark Souls or Zelda or something. This genre is what it is and the fans love it like that. Nothing need be changed.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Please let’s not decide you speak for every fan who plays a particular game.

        • BloodTorrent

Are you just following me around and replying to everything I comment? A little creepy bro. Seriously though, people who complain about features missing from a genre that isn’t intended to have them should just play a different genre. It’s like saying “I think they should add guns to Dark Souls because guns are cool”. Nope. I had a valid point. Stop targeting me.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Follow our rules and I don’t post as a mod. Think before posting and don’t go out of your way to be rude to a fellow poster.

Exploring a level can involve things as simple as hidden rooms, one or two places where you can capture that perfect group hunting screenshot or rare mobs. Those things have been in the genre since Phantasy Star Online. Mon Hun has also provided comparatively a larger array of settings for their maps.

Again, why one plays/what one looks for in a particular game can be different — nothing more.

          • BloodTorrent

I understand your reply on the other thread, although at this point I can’t even remember what game that article was about. However this time I wasn’t rude or impolite in the slightest, simply making a statement with some valid reasoning behind it. Which is why it seems that you are now making it your business to reply to anything I say regardless of whether I did anything wrong or not. Maybe it is you who needs to read the rules.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Awesome, it’s like they’re doubling the available monsters. More things to blast to hell. So can’t wait till it drops. Just one more month. One more month … =(

Also this sentence sounds a bit weird: “Doing so will grant you an item called “Libram’s Tear”, which can be used to reduce the level of either life-force or magic on your character.” Wouldn’t they mean increase your life-force or magic? Why would anyone reduce it?

    • Ferrick

to try many other combinations, and make use of the forbidden spells (or so i heard). To iterate, it doesn’t reduce your life-force and/or magic attack, its just that it reduces your alignment level, and these levels affect your life and magic

    • xcornmuffinx

Yeah, it’s just reduce your levels in each rating. Though that’s only a small part of the uses for Libram Tears. You need them to fix broken spells, regenerate forbidden techniques, revive/recall helpers after a battle, and even change your character name. They are helpful to have but I can’t imagine needing any extra than the game itself gives you. They aren’t exactly hard to come by.

  • benhofb

Hmm. I wonder if the update will be on-chip with the US version or not. Either way, this is going to be so awesome. My Vita is waiting in excitement.

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. Berserk is a pretty darn cool spell concept, I must admit. Wonder if it will receive a lot of play, or if people ill prefer more “stable” spells.

  • TheExile285

Sweet. April 30th needs to get here faster !

  • shion16

Anyone knows if the dual pack (bundle that includes 2 copies of the game) is coming to America ?

    • I highly doubt it, but we’ll see.

  • xcornmuffinx

Man, nobody is going to be posting that stuff on facebook to get Libram Tears. I have like 12,000 or more of those things just stored away on my character. You get hundreds for fighting a boss and leveling down takes about 20 per level. Fixing broken spells is at most 100 though for normal stuff it’s more in the 10 to 30 range. Unless it’s the very beginning of the game, I think you would be hard pressed to actually run out of them.

    • gustave154

Yeah its for newbies i guess. More people playing the game sounds good

  • Kefkiroth

Ad-hoc is pretty huge. That’s pretty much the main appeal of Monster Hunter… to be able to hunt while out there with a group of friends. I wonder how this will affect sales.

    • AdachiTohru

That wont affect sales, people dont know about this, they just look the box back to know whether the game support ad-hoc.
Sad, it would sell better if ad-hoc was inclued from the launch

      • Kefkiroth

I guess the boxes will update to support ad-hoc? Then again, the more dedicated gamers would look up on the internet if the game had ad-hoc in the first place, I guess.

  • Dang, that is pretty massive.

  • PoSiTiV3tEnSiOn

If they haven’t already, it would be awesome if they added… a mic-chat option for when you’re playing with randoms over wi-fi. I noticed that this was not present in the demo version.

    • heartless141

vita’s party chat works. people tends to forget this exists after asking for them for sooooo long.

      edit: oh, random over wifi.
      nevermind me :P

  • ShadowDivz

Is it just me. Or does it look like his Brain became so huge it replaced his head?

  • gustave154

OMG so many bosses coming up

  • Øzef Sillona Torrente

yehey…. i already pre order it… and now im just waiting for the english demo =)

  • Elvick

Wonder if they’ll implement this in the game itself for NA and EU release. Hope so, and my bets go to yes. Ragnarok Odyssey’s were. Gravity Rush’s DLC was on the cart if I recall as well.

  • pure_white

One month left… damn. Can’t wait anymore :C

  • BloodTorrent

Now all we need is Hiro Mashima to stop collaborating on Monster Hunter 4 and add stuff to this much better game instead. Monster Hunter doesn’t even have magic, honestly. Soul Sacrifice is a much better fit. lol.
