Atlus have shared new footage of Shin Megami Tensei IV via the game’s official Japanese website, showing off demon interaction in the game. Three new videos demonstrate demon negotiation, battles using demons, and demon fusion. You’ll also get to hear the game’s battle theme in the second video. Watch them below:

Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released in Japan on May 23rd. North America will get the game this Summer, perhaps in July.

Battles still go on after you recruit a demon? Interesting, but it really doesn’t affect me because I usually kill all but the one demon I want :x

I laughed at the priest being a giant floating pixel head. Dat beard got me man

    • I kind of like the idea of battles continuing on afterwards (though this would be situational).

  • RoxasTheUnknown1

    That demon recruiting theme~<3
Not feeling the normal battle theme though. Doesn't have that impact Nocturne's did.

    • Zeik56

I’ve always had mixed feelings about Nocturne’s battle theme. Parts of it I like, and others not so much.

I think I like this one better as a whole.

    • I actually like it, it has that retro feel to it

  • benhofb

DAT GUI! Like, seriously. It is so clean and swanky.

    • Zeik56

It’s kind of something you take for granted or often don’t really notice, but a nice GUI just makes the whole game more enjoyable.

      • benhofb

Very true. Sometimes if the interface is either too busy or too messy, I tend to think less of the game. It all adds to the overall experience of playing the game, ya’know?

    • ragingmerifes

      It’s like Apple, but better.

  • Tom_Phoenix

Waw! I don’t know how you managed to embed videos like that, Ishaan, but good job! It makes dual screen footage look really good.

Anyway, the game looks great. Also, I’m really liking the battle theme.

    • It isn’t hard! We’ve done it before for other DS/3DS games. You just need to adjust the resolution in YouTube’s embed code, since the original videos are in the appropriate resolution.

      • People that don’t know how to write scripts/code/etc. are rather impressed by simple things like this. lol It’s like that for me and people who are awesome at art I am like how and they are like yah well you do this and that, it is simple.

        • Nah, Tom’s a smart guy. I think what he meant to ask was if the original files were in that resolution, to which the answer is yes. They’re long/vertical videos like you see above. YT’s automatic embed code gives you the default 560×315 resolution, but since the original file uploaded to YT is 420×505, you can manually change the embed code and the video comes out fine.

          • Ah. I see. lol I guess it is me misunderstanding things as usual. xD

    • Enzo

You can edit the dimensions of a video when embedding it.

  • I really sucks in negociation ‘-‘ It took me a long time to get the hang on doing it in Strange Journey. I hope I have better luck in this SMT!

  • Space_Ghost

I’m ashamed to call myself an RPG lover having never played a SMT game. :( I was put off by the FP view, but I can handle it in battles. I just like to see my character when I’m running around, which this does. I’m definitely looking forward to this being the first SMT game I’ll ever play, and it won’t be the last.

    • 3PointDecoupage

I played Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga, and I really didn’t like them, but I’m genuinely excited about this one.

      • RoxasTheUnknown1

Heathen!!! >:3 But jokes aside I just kicked Demi-Fiend’s butt in DSS 1. Starting up DDS 2. Love them both and Nocturne. Kinda iffy about Raidou’s games though.

        • Vitor Duarte

You can give me the DevilSummoner games if you want to XDD

        • Barrylocke89

I’d consider them. The atmosphere of the Old Capitol is amazing, and Raidou is so swag.

  • 3PointDecoupage

How is Atlus releasing this in English so fast?

    • Firekitty

The same way stuff like Kingdom Hearts 2 and FFXIII-2 got translated so fast: the games were intended to be localized from the beginning, and so were developed with it in mind. i.e, dialogue translation probably started as soon as the Japanese script was finalized, the game was coded to display roman characters with no problems, etc. Likely the only thing holding it up is QC and English voice acting, which naturally couldn’t start until the Japanese voices were complete, in case there were any last-minute script changes.

Of course, with this being the case, Atlus has no excuse for leaving out dual audio in this one, since if they knew from the start this would be translated, the VA contracts that they claim pose *such* an obstacle to it should have been negotiated properly to allow for it.

      • Suicunesol

What about space on the cart? The game is nearly fully voiced. Its possible that they wouldn’t be able to fit both tracks.

        • $29082171

None of the videos had full voice acting, and those were 3 different gameplay scenarios, safe to say dialogue is reserved for dialogue with important characters.

          • Suicunesol

Obviously the demons are exempt. There’s probably dialogue for everyone else though. Who knows? There might be enough to make it diffucult to fill the cart with both languages. It’s a possibility.

          • Firekitty

A 3DS cart can currently be up to 8GB. Kingdom Hearts DDD is less than 2GB in size. Tales of Graces, a PS3 JRPG with a ton of voice acting is less than 7GB. While it’s possible that a 3DS game could top that, it’s not likely this early in the system’s lifespan (If even Squeenix can’t find a way to bloat a game over 2GB yet, I doubt Atlus can).

      • M’iau M’iaut

It has been mentioned until the cows come home and for a month of Sundays by Atlus themselves that space considerations are maybe the last of the reasons audio decisions have been made. Regarding the contracts — it makes little sense for this game to be the one for business practices to be suddenly adjusted for. While it may be closer to the main stem of the series in Japan, this isn’t Persona 5, which will have a far greater sales impact stateside.

  • Vitor Duarte

I really want a Vita version.

  • MrTyrant

I love the sprite animation and details with some attacks. Hell that Valkyrie literaly explode we was defeated using bufu skills, feels sub-zero man. Hahaha.

  • Tales_of_Master

I love the fact that the music in this game is so similar to the music in SMT and SMTII. Especially the battle theme. I still love the music in Nocturne and DDS, and some of the tracks in these game were brilliant, but I still love how Atlus are really driving the whole “reviving the feeling of the original games” aspect home. July is so close, and yet it seems so far -_-

  • DDanny

Looks like we’re back to classy Titania and old fat Oberon again.

    • What a shame…

      • Ferofax

What? Were there any different Titania/Oberon illustrations other than the lovely queen/rotund king?

        • Salvador’ Spinoso

Well, the ones in Devil Survivor 2

  • SetzerGabbiani

The retro-ness of the soundtrack is HIGHLY desirable to my ears. It really captures that SNES sound very well.

  • lunarwhale

the battle theme is very SMT1/2. I’m loving how it sounds.

  • Ferofax

I thought it was a card captured vid… Didn’t know that was official.
