Along with their localization announcement for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Nintendo also released a subtitled trailer for the game, which you can watch below:

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy (temporary title—final name TBD) will be released in Europe sometime in 2013. North America will get the game in 2014.

I was hyped, but 2014 is so far away…

    • JaimeLara

Same. Am I the only one dissapointed with the wait? I mean sure there are plenty of games to keep me occupied till 2014 but I want a good RPG. So, does this mean we wont see Dragon Quest 7 till 2015? Omg SE… :(

  • kamion

I hope they won’t change the name. The “Flying Fairy” part is actually really important.

    • puchinri

I had just realized recently how important it is, and I think it’d be a shame and a loss to change it. They probably realize it though too.

While the Bravely Default part isn’t (nearly as) important, I do think it is a bit meaningful at least for a character or two as well.

      • SerendipityX

I have a feeling that they will probably only change the “Bravely Default” part. Because…well…it just makes one scratch their head in confusion.

        • デ オオカミ

Once you start playing the game, it’ll make more sense. x)

        • puchinri

Yeah, that’s what I figure. I mean, I do think it makes sense and agree with デ オオカミ, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be like changing something very relevant compared to the subtitle/second half of the name.

          • デ オオカミ

True that, but I don’t think I could imagine this game being called anything else. (´・_・`)

          • puchinri

I agree, haha. It wouldn’t feel right to me at all if they changed the name in any form. ouo

      • http://www.facebook.com/matthew.ponthier Matthew Ponthier

I haven’t even played the game and I don’t want them to change it. I’m just so used to it now I can’t imagine it was anything else.

        • puchinri

Haha, yeah, I’m used to it now too. Honestly, it could of rung with me from the beginning, but by now, I just can’t imagine it being called anything else.

    • popa

Spoilers!!! I didnt want to know that, WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME!?

      • kamion

It isn’t a spoiler. A spoiler would be if I told you why.
It’s like I told you Ni no Kuni was called this because there’s a second world…

    • alixraen

If they’re so dead set on keeping this separate entity from Final Fantasy and expanding the Bravely Default series, perhaps it’s best they drop the Flying Fairy.

      • kamion

I don’t see any reason for that? It’s a subtitle, Bravely Default 2 could just have a different one?

Etrian Odyssey also has a new subtitle each game.

        • alixraen

I don’t see the reason they need a subtitle for the first game in the series except as a way to nod to Final Fantasy? Even if it does carry meaning from the game.

          • kamion

Saying anymore would be a spoiler, but I’ll just say that we would lose one of the coolest moments the game has to offer if they decide to get rid of that subtitle.

  • Charles

Please don’t change the name, I’ve become used to it now.

  • Go2hell66

this game is getting dubbed right?

  • aecks

I didn’t and haven’t kept up with Nintendo Direct, but I take it this subtitled trailer could mean a Japanese and or multi voice tracks?

Either way, it’s great to see more and more games make it over.

    • SirRichard

Presumably they announced it before they had any in-game English text or dubbing to show off, I’ve seen that happen a fair few times.

    • Ethan_Twain

More likely the English voice work just isn’t ready yet. This is a 2014 release after all.

      • Farid Belkacemi

        2013 in Europe :p

  • DesmaX

Alrighty then! Let’s get this party started!

Let me turn on the music

  • SirRichard

Still surprised about the difference in dates, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed to match each other. Still amazed that this happened, it’s going to be hard as hell not to be hyped about Directs in future with the precedent set this year.

  • shuyai

yea!!! and we get it earlier than America too! double yea!!! on another note, fire emblem awakening still not here yet!Noooo!!!!

    • TheRealMalek

fire emblem is nearly here :p.

But 2013 for europe yay !

  • Natat

Nice for Europe to get games earlier for a change. I can wait for 2014, there are so many games worth buying in 2013 anyway, I’m not sure if I could afford them all lol

  • puchinri

Oh goodness, no matter how many times I see trailers for this, it looks glorious every time. I really hope both regions get a subtitled version. (Or they could go dual audio like they did for Xenoblade. . .)

I am so thankful that Nintendo is localizing this (for both regions). ♥

  • Tom

I tried to avoid trailers and gameplay videos so far. But this looks really good. The trailer has a certain atmosphere. I hope it’s going to have some special edition or a 3DS bundle. If so then I’m up for it! This game will make me buy a 3DS.

  • Raltrios

Looks great! The cutscene models seem a bit… untextured, but it’s on a handheld so dat’s okay. Combat looks basic, but also intriguing.
I’m gonna want to pick this up. Looks like it could be a gem like Radiant Historia was.

  • Taylor Davis

*starts dancing to victory music* YES!!!!!! Finally! But sadly US is getting next year. *sigh* oh well, maybe that will give me more time to figure out what I want to buy and I might pre-order this (so i don’t forget it). (THERE’S SO MANY GAMES!)I wonder if we’re getting the collector’s edition (or at least some of it, like the art book.) Also what about the AR cards?

  • AuraGuyChris

Will this mean that this game is getting European voice overs crossing over to America?

    • Firekitty

I’m hoping for Japanese VO, of course, but I’d be very happy with
dual audio with a British-English dub…Xenoblade was the first game dub
in years that I was completely happy with.

  • Xalsunwolf

    DAT BOOK FLIP.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

That trailer was great! I can’t wait to be a fairy =^_^=………..wait

  • http://s932.photobucket.com/ usagi_san

I really hope that collector’s edition comes over! :D Can’t wait to finally have this in my possession.

  • CirnoLakes

My 3DS is ready for Agnes.

  • Anime10121

My wallet thanks Square for making this a 2014 release. Its already in so much pain, I think a release this year would have dealt a fatal blow.

  • Shadowman

    I want this, NOW!!

  • http://www.senran-international.boards.net/ TwinTails

See, I told you to count on Nintendo. Look through my comment history.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I wonder why SE is not publishing it. Maybe because of their financial situation and the risks involved with localizing this? Well I am happy this is coming over.

  • Alexander FromUkraine

I should be glad it’s going to be localized in English, as I was really interested in it (was planning to re-buy a 3DS for it, this says something). But I’m depressed instead. Square Enix – my beloved JRPG powerhouse of the last 15 years is skipping on publishing it. I think this might paint a pretty grim future for SE and it’s place in the genre (which they were a symbol of for a long time). Next time they will skip on developing such games entirely in pursuit of something more profitable.

Hope I’m really wrong here, but after posting those huge losses in no way I see they answer will be to develop more JRPGs

  • Oltheros

Subtitled? Here’s hoping final game will keep the original audio.

    • Ricardo C

As much as I would like more of Square’s recent games to be bilingual I highly doubt it. This is just a temporary trailer because localization barely got announced and I doubt any English VA has been recorded already at this point.

  • Göran Isacson

Oh Nintendo, you make this poor boys heart all aglow and twitter-patter with these news~! And early for us too, why you ARE too sweet~. Man is this awesome news, and I do wonder if there’s any meat to the speculation that Nintendo is handling this to ease SE’s financial burden… that would put a damper on my inner party if this means that SE will only bring over games like this if someone else foots the bill.

But oh let’s not think about that right now BRAVELY DEFAULT SUCKAS WOOO!

  • DawnWolf

I would be really happy if Europe weren’t getting it first. Not only do I hate when that happens, but 2013 vs 2014 is ridiculous. Unless the US version has like English dubbing and the European version doesn’t, I’m very disappointed in Nintendo. I mean first they leave us a full year behind on Operation Rainfall, and now this. Note, I hate when Europe gets it first for the same reason Europe hates it when we get it first, it’s like putting something in front of my face that I can’t have. Not to mention the temptation to spoil myself online is far too great (that week for KH3D? Yeah hell on Earth). Don’t see why Nintendo can’t do an international release date.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

For all you know, it could be a 2-3 month difference, like Europe getting it in November and U.S. getting it in February. Note that there’s no release date mentioned for Europe, which means it isn’t coming out in the Summer. If it were releasing that soon, they would have announced a date.

    • kamion

You realize Europe gets almost every game ever later than North America?
We had to wait two months for Fire Emblem, around half a year for Persona 4 Arena and until a remake for Tales of the Abyss.

      Feel our pain.

Then again, yes, I would prefer worldwide releases, but what bugs me about your comment is that you obviously would not care if it was the other way around.

  • Visa Vang

Finally a non Final Fantasy game that feels and looks like Final Fantasy. I’m not saying, I just saying. No need to hate.

  • Surgeon of Death

I’m gonna play the hell out of this game. The fairy won’t be flying straight for weeks.

    • Hinataharem

      Oh…..oh goodness…

  • surakian

I find it hard to see them change the Bravely Default part. It is the franchise name, and considering how Flying Fairy is the extremely important subtitle, I can’t see that being changed either. If they change the franchise name they have to change the subtitle and changing the subtitle would make no sense at all.

So I hope they keep the full name. It might not make sense from looking at it, but it makes perfect sense in-game.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I know that this game is surely going to come from the first however, seeing the trailer in NoE presentation easily proves that my body is not ready lol.
Whether it is 2013 or 2014, fans of Jrpg. Lets us join hand and make this game succesful to show how Jrpg still have viable market outside of Japan.^_^

  • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Excited to see this finally coming but can’t help but wonder why SquareEnix isn’t publishing their own game

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

Honest to God, I have been waiting to get my hands on this game for ages now!

  • Pichi

Glad its coming. A bit troublesome that SE didn’t want to bring it themselves. If they don’t do it with DQ7, then I hope Nintendo does it.
