Puzzle & Dragons Z On Nintendo 3DS Is More Of An RPG

We recently learned that GungHo Online Entertainment’s hit social game that boasts over 12 million registered users, Puzzle & Dragons, will be headed to 3DS as Puzzle & Dragons Z. Famitsu.com gives us a closer look at the upcoming 3DS version of the RPG puzzler.

Puzzle & Dragons Z’s game play is simple. The puzzle battles are a match-3 type of game, where you’ll be required to move around the ‘Drops’ and align three or more in order to attack enemies with your friendly monsters.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, there will be towns and dungeons to explore, as Puzzle & Dragons Z adds an adventurous RPG aspect to the original game. You’ll be playing as the ‘”Dragon Tamer,” who is a human character with the ability to control Drops. In addition, the 3DS version will have new monsters (over 200 to collect!).

Puzzle & Dragons Z is slated to be released this Winter in Japan.

  • Sounds like a Pokemon x Match-3 cross breed.

    Should prove interesting.

  • Zanetsu

If this would be a version of P&D with no free-to-play mechanics involved, that sounds quite interesting. I’m always up for a puzzle/RPG mix, just got to get me a 3DS first.

    • Neophoton

Pretty much this. Looks rather fun and has a really cute art style! I’m just not fond of F2P elements that nickel-dime players in such games.

  • Oh wow this is on my wishlist now.
GungHo you know what to do.
