Corpse Party Continues On PS Vita With Corpse Party: Blood Drive

By Ishaan . April 22, 2013 . 10:30am

Corpse Party: Blood Drive is headed to the PlayStation Vita, reports. Blood Drive will continue the story from chapter 8 of Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. Note that chapter 8 of Book of Shadows was also titled “Blood Drive”.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive will represent the end of the storyline that follows Heavenly Host Elementary School. The game is slated for release in Japan this year and will be published by 5pb. Here’s a story summary:

Are the terrible events that occurred in the Shinozaki family, home to both Yoshie and Sachiko, an omen of a new tragedy?

After Sachiko’s departure, Heavenly Host was thought to have collapsed. However, because of a master of a greater power, the power of its curse has expanded.

Finally, the countless mysteries surrounding Heavenly Host Elementary School will be revealed.  Will it be possible to bring back the friends cruelly killed within the school…?!

what the story this time? I can’t wait the hear it

  • Ryomou

    Please come hereeeeee~

  • phangtom

Everyone! Vita now has games! Rejoice, now it’s the time to buy one! But seriously, definitely need to buy a Vita to play this (and replay the other 2, well if this one also gets localised).

    • Aristides

You will not be disappointed B)

    • The more pressing matter: Do I want to save up to finally upgrade from my 2005 Compaq PC, or save up for a Vita? Choices, choices.

  • Machineguntommy

    U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

    • jujubee88

The Corpse Party games have all been localized (and on VITA’s store).

      Lock. Stock. Barrel.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

      EDF! EDF! EDF!

Sorry, it was so tempting to post that.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if this got localized, AFAIK the games have sold well in here.

    • Detrimont

Australia and New Zealand! Australia and New Zealand! Australia and New Zealand! We want the first games too! We want the first games too! We want the first games too!

    • Hikaru Lighthalzen

i’m 80% sure it will be localized

  • Xseed please localise this!

  • Go2hell66

as much as i loved the first person dngeon crawling in book of shadows i’d prefer if they went with the over the top birds eye view type gameplay, so i can see my character while i explore this time around.

another great game for vita, lets face it vita needs them bad

    • Edzo04

agreed. book of shadows was neat but i liked the first game a lot more

    • wyrdwad

The producer said in an interview previously that the style of the first game seemed to be more popular and that they were considering returning to it with Blood Drive, and there’s nothing in the article stating that they AREN’T going back to it, so… I’m willing to bet they are, personally!

      • neogeno

That would be very awesome if they did. Book of Shadows was okay but there was just something about walking through the halls yourself in Corpse Party 1 rather than traveling through image blocks.

  • I’m sure it’s a coincidence, but that subtitle sounds very “90s” for some reason…

  • Oh my god. Hype get.
Been waiting for the announcement of this ever since it was hinted at in BoS.

  • Talmire

I find it odd how they say “After Sachiko’s departure, Heavenly Host was thought to have collapsed,” when they made it very clear in the first game that appeasing Sachiko would NOT destroy Heavenly Host.

    • Luna Kazemaru

If I remember she got replaced by yuki right?

      • Guest

Yep, which is something I feel a lot of people didn’t notice.

      • Eilanzer

        the girl without an eye?!

        • Talmire

Indeed. During the scene right before you have to escape the school her dress turns red.

    • Probably too distracted by needing to go to the toilet to pay attention to what they were being told.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I wonder if they really meant that; obviously HS will keep on existing. Failing to escape even showed that; but the curse itself is not explained whether it’ll continue to work or not after the escape~.

If all the people who died in HS were wiped off reality for putting Sachiko to rest then it’d stand to reason that since Naho “no longer exists” then the Sachiko Ever After charm won’t exist anymore either. That the case, no more scrubs would get sucked into HS; however, if there’s another power at hand, maybe people will be abducted to HS. Again. Perhaps they are implying that with the whole collapse of HS~.

      • Talmire

Judging from some of the lines during the true end of the first game it’s somewhat safe to assume the curse is still truckin’.
“Still absorbing innumerable souls and ingesting the thoughts of numerous boys and girls… Heavenly Host Elementary School stands firm, with a newly-appointed Sachiko at its core.”

And as revealed in the Blood Drive prologue in Book of Shadows, while Naho died, her existence remained just so that people would continue to be sent there.

  • Luna Kazemaru

that hype train get on it now.

  • Can’t have too much Corpse Party!

I wonder if there will be a limited edition?… :o

    • Hikaru Lighthalzen

limited edition with a corpse inside :D

      • Ehh, something like an eyeball would be easier to ship… ;)

  • cloudcaelum

    Can’t wait to watch.

Virtue’s Last Reward VS Corpse Party?

For me Virtue’s cuz i can’t play this f*cking scary game, but i can watch…

    • Go2hell66

its not really scary though, just gory

      • cloudcaelum

You got some **** man, i’m scaring cuz i think you will say: “Silent Hill 2 best comedy game in industry.”

    • MrSirFeatherFang

I played VLR and 999 mostly at night… honestly there were times where I was scared and the thought of putting the system down actually crossed my mind

      • cloudcaelum

Yea, VLR sometimes can be scary but againts Corpse Party like a comedy film.

Sounds from Corpse Party still in my ears, actually that’s good thing cuz they do what they want… Dam quality workmanship.

  • Brandonmkii

Console release? Localization chance jumped 100000%

    • wyrdwad

You realize we’ve already localized three PC games on Steam, right? So really, non-console is always completely viable as well…

      • Brandonmkii

Good to hear. I know that the other CP game, Dead Patient, is a PC game, so maybe I’ll get to play it someday! And thanks for the response!

  • Alexandra Cordes

Oh please please please let this be localized… or, or I could just study harder.
Hm… It is voiced so kanji wouldn’t be that much of a pain…
Let’s localize it just to be safe. :D

  • Otoya

Finally!!!!! I can have some cool game for my Vita~~~~~

  • Marik78

    *cough cough*

  • Otaku-Sama

I hope they release it for PSP too… if it’s possible. I don’t have a Vita, and I don’t think I will have one in a LONG time.
For our luck, if they localized the last two games, this one won’t be an exception. (or so I hope). Even so, I still want Hysteric Birthday 2U localized.

    • Aristides

That’s kind of a long shot O_O I think you might need to consider getting the Vita faster, it’s probably due for a price drop this year anyway.

  • MrTyrant

I want to know I really want to know what happen after Book Shadow. Good news people.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

All the porn in the World can’t compare to the joy I experienced from these news~.

  • Kefkiroth

So hyped if they will localize this. The art will finally use the full resolution of my Vita.

I’ve only played the first game; I’ve got to get started on Book of Shadows, and I hope the first-person view isn’t that bad. It bothers me a bit as I liked being able to walk around, but it shouldn’t be that bad.

    • Vernika

It didn’t bother me at all. It still is an awesome game. But yes, the first CP style is better.

  • Sooo… is this a visual novel? It’s the first time I heard about this series.

    • revenent hell

      Well, yes.

The first game you get to actually controll the characters and where they move to, I’d advise playing this game befor BoS, not because of story line or anything but because in Book of Shadows the game is more “point and clicky” and I really found it so much less scary because of this.
Its more VN like I guess? Which isnt bad but part of the fear from the first game was not knowing whats arround the next corner when you get there, in BoS that kind of dissapears for me since by just clicking on where they should go and they automatically go there it feels like nothing will happen thats not scripted out and even though all games are this way the first game didnt have that feeling, it felt so much more random when something happend. But thats just me and my opinion.
But Book of Shadows was really good to dont get me wrong on that, I just prefer the “feel” of the first game.

      • I get what you’re trying to say. This game looks nice, thanks for the reply n.n

  • artemisthemp

Now I just wait on Xseed to tell a release date for this game in US and EU.
Hope they will release it as Retail, but I kinda doubt it.

    • revenent hell

Since the other two games didnt get a physical release I dont even think theres a question about this one not getting one as well.
But I could care less, I love these games and no matter how they are released I cant wait to play it.
Though I do wish they would go back to the first games style of play..It took a lot of scare factor out of it for how BoS played.

      • brian

But this is on PSV, and they do seem to be very pleased with the way CP1/2 sold, so it is at least has a decent chance of physical release.
On which part of the caring continuum does your caring lie? :

      • artemisthemp

Well the 2 first games was PSP game and they release ad the end of the PSP era, while this is a Vita game.

      • I still found BoS very scary, personally. I also found Dear Theresia scary, too, though, so maybe I’m the only person to get spooked by dungeon-crawler perspective horror. :D

  • Alphabet Soup

Very excited for this! I liked the teaser in BoS so I’m wondering how this will play out. Plus I’m glad 5pb is letting the HH saga end instead of milking it forever.

    • Testsubject909

…. Great, now I have a DuckTales x Corpse Party mixup going on in my head.

      • Alphabet Soup

        Mwahahaha! It begins…

  • Neko Kawaii

What happened to that corpse party game with the 3D chibi girl and something to do with hospitals I think

    • Brandonmkii

That’s Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient. it’s still coming out, and it’s on pc.

    • Talmire

Chapter 1 of that is being released on May 29th.

  • アティ

  • Detrimont

please just dont be point and click again, the horror wasnt as good, i want exploration again

  • Vernika

  • Oh boy, this is exciting!
Dat cliffhanger in BoS guys, think back to it :>

  • Göran Isacson

“Will it be possible to bring back the friends cruelly killed by the school?”

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA no.

Because Corpse Party eats your hope and happiness for breakfast. Also please to be aiming a lot higher than the last game with the quality of your writing, I was not a happy panda with how silly and tiresome things got with all the gore and questionable decisions.

    • Cloud_ST

Agreed. Book of Shadows’ last chapter was pretty bad storywise, I just can’t believe that they could be so stupid.

      • Göran Isacson

Yeah, there is something to be said about grief overpowering their rationality considering how deeply involved those particular characters were in starting and perpetuating all the troubles at Heavenly Host, but at some point you GOT to realize that messing with an EVIL TALKING BOOK is just never ever EVER going to work out for you, and when you fail to realize what anyone who’d ever seen a horror movie would know you just… kinda look stupid.

        • Cloud_ST

Of course. How about them not taking Mochida and the other guy who survived in that “investigation”?, a big slap on the face to their friends who went through so much with them and also had the right to find out more of the truth. Also, how about them not thinking about going in the morning instead of late afternoon?. Letting their parents know or something?. In reality, even if they did all of what I just said I would STILL brand them as stupid. I mean, they survived HELL, how about not pushing your luck and never talking/touching/getting anywhere near anything supernatural?.

Sorry about the long post, god I hated that chapter.

          • Göran Isacson

It’s okay man. You are among friends here. Going alone was something I COULD spin as them not wanting to endanger anyone else, although they SHOULD respect their fellow survivors enough to talk things through with them. But okay, let’s say they’re just so torn with guilt and grief and completely unable to think straight that they decide to do it on their own, going at night… AT NIGHT… WITHOUT BIKES… without any kind of help, any kind of plan, just because what- they think the HOUSE they’re looking for will teleport out if they don’t hurry it up?

I can accept that they ventured into the Supernatural again, if only because they seemed to be total and complete wrecks at the time, desperate for a solution… but that they sought no help or assistance and went at it alone? That is just unforgivably stupid- I lost pretty much all sympathy with them. GOD I hope there is intelligence to be found in the sequel. There is a certain line you can’t cross, even when you are bereft with grief, that just makes it impossible for me to find a character relatable and likable, and those two just flew over that line like a severed head.

          • Cloud_ST

I agree with most of what you are saying. I get that grief pretty much destroyed them both, specially Naomi, but what’s the deal with Ayumi (the class representative) going all the way in that ritual after she was responsible for taking their friends to hell?, I mean come on. She’s such a nasty, arrogant and stupid person.

Also, that whole european story about the book and the book’s appearance were pretty underwhelming, even lame I’d say. I’ve always seen CP as an asian horror story, the fact that they are trying to somehow squeeze european supernatural stuff in such a ham-fisted way now seems quite cliche and makes it all a bit like trying too hard.

Like you said I hope that the sequel shows a bit more intelligence in It’s protagonists decisions, right now I just don’t know what to think.

          • Göran Isacson

Yeah, not gonna lie- I laughed. I laughed out LOUD when that super dark voice came in with BUUK OVU SHUADOWUS. I just freaking LOST it. It’s just such a… on the one hand, the supernatural exists. Okay, that’s one thing. BUt to tie it into this big conspiracy that just comes straight out of nowhere, to have this quaint little horror-mystery apparently be part of this big damn plot with a book of ALL THE EVIL, it just threatens to dilute the story. The sequel will have to deal with this book and it’s ridiculous voice now, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to take it seriously at all.

          • Cloud_ST

I agree 100%. That book will destroy the story..or at least make it severely worse.

I’m gonna miss answering you every morning, it puts a smile on my face every time, haha.

          • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, there’s only so much you can say about the ending before you run out of steam, after all :) Which time zone do you live in? European over here.

          • Cloud_ST

I’m from South America, I figured you were from Europe with that name, haha.

  • Koulamatata

Amazing news to wake up to.
Can’t wait to see how the story does a 180 after the Blood Drive chapter in BoS.
