Is Square Enix Working On A Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Remake?

By Spencer . April 22, 2013 . 1:21am

While some of Square Enix’s games didn’t live up to expectations, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D was a hit for the publisher. The 3D remake sold almost a million copies in Japan and was the fourth best selling game behind New Super Mario Bros. 2, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Pokémon Black & White 2. With sales numbers close to a million it makes sense to remake Dragon Quest Monsters 2. A trademark hints that Square Enix may be working on one too.

According to trademark_bot, Square Enix registered a trademark for Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key. Dragon Quest Monsters 2 was released as two games one with Luca (called Cobi in the West) and one with Iru (named Tara in the West). Both games also had the subtitle Malta’s Mysterious Key. It appears Square Enix is combining both Dragon Quest Monsters 2 games into one title. We’re guessing Dragon Quest Monsters: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key will be for 3DS since that’s where Terry’s Wonderland 3D showed up.

  • I’ve said this before, but I’m still really hoping we’ll see Terry’s Wonderland over here…this is so exciting. In some ways, these games were more exciting to me than Pokemon was (and I love those games, too). I can’t wait to see what the new game looks like!

I really hope we get Terry’s Wonderland stateside, but it’s getting less and less likely as the months go on. DQM2R was hinted at in DQM7R, though — DQM7R has DQM2 style “key worlds” or to use the DQ9 naming — “Grottos.”

Square Enix should work on getting the Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection released in NA

  • Foryth

Cool, I loved fusing to get DQ bosses in the GBC games. I sincerely hope we get either this or Terry’s Wonderland.(or both)

I got an new proposal for SE, make a remake of a remake.

That would bring some life into the company.

  • echokanon

why am I feeling that SE will only focus on monster capture games now…

  • Rogerrmark

    I hope that,at least,DQVII arrives around here.

Really wanted Terry’s wonderland as well, but I kinda doubt Squareenix would localize the game by itself. And doubt that Nintendo would publish or find a RPG based on monster creation/fights profitable, since next Pokémon generation will be released this year as well.

Terry’s Wonderland had the 3-D battles appeal(something I particulary don’t care),but since the next Pokémon installment will have it as well…I don’t see people buying, except for the timid fanbase DQ has outside Japan, sadly ):

    another remake………………….

  • ElAbuelo69

I want to give a fuck, I really do but unfortunately it won’t be released in the west :(

Hopefully this one turns out at least as good as “Terry’s Wonderland 3D”. Though, I’m hoping for this one that they ditch the “Dragon Quest Monster Joker” systems and have you receive ally monsters more of the ‘traditional’ way you did on the originals versions of the games.

    • Rogerrmark

This. I really don’t like that Scout system that much,as well :x

  • Solomon_Kano

Scrolled by too fast and thought the image on the main page was TK from Digimon lol.

  • Kitestwinblades

Cant wait for these games to get localized. Dragon Warrior Monsters is pretty much what introduced me to the series. The quest games had a few new monsters but having the chance to fight/tame monsters seen in DWM was a great start.

    nostalgia overdose GAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
