Hakuouki: Memories of the Shinsengumi Coming To North America

By Ishaan . April 23, 2013 . 12:10pm

Hakukouki: Memories of the Shinsengumi is coming to North America on the Nintendo 3DS, courtesy of Aksys Games. The visual novel is a 3DS port of Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom with added story content.

Hakukouki: Memories of the Shinsengumi will have six new side stories that depict what happens in between major events in the main story.

Memories of the Shinsengumi will also allow you take a photograph you’ve snapped with your Nintendo 3DS and add characters stickers, frames and other decorations into it, similar to Japanese photo sticker booths.

Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi does not have a release date yet. The game will support stereoscopic 3D visuals.

  • LETS PRAY FOR LOCALIZATION

Aaaaa~~ i love me some hakuouki.

  • Dexward

    Aku Soku Zan

  • XxDestinyXx

I was praying they would bring out more of the RPG games (unlike the Hakuouki fighter, which I do have and love), and this is great! I will be pre-ordering as soon as the release date becomes available. <3

  • Laith Rem

    Announce CCC next Aksys.

Good news tho, I haven’t played Hakuoki so this is a great chance for me.

  • Ricardo C

Im not surprised. Nice going Aksys Games :)
Will Nagakura have a love route this time?

  • ToshiChan

I can see my girl friends squealing in anticipation

And asking to borrow my 3ds.

  • Aristides

loving this, but don’t forget CCC Aksys

  • Foryth

I got the PSP one and haven’t finished it once yet, so… I guess I probably won’t get this one.

  • Ereek

I’m glad that those who no longer have a PSP, or haven’t played the PSP version, will be able to appreciate this lovely title.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

Exactly! It may be an otome but it’s fricking amazing.

      • Sweet Sui ♥

Indeed, indeed, I agree 100% on the “fricking amazing” part~ :3 Hakuoki is one of those games/series that can appeal to a much wider audience than the one it is targeted at ^w^

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

To be fair… a good game is a good game regardless of it’s target audience. Unless it haves extreme content (Violence, drugs and sex), which in that case the parents should know if their kids should play them.

  • SerendipityX

( ̄ー ̄) I’ve already bought and played the psp version….*rubs hands together* Now its time woo samurai bishies in 3D…

  • revenent hell

I would buy it but I already have the first two games…I do feel bad for not supporting this one but I already have two other versions so……..
But im stoked its coming out none the less! I hope people snap it up like candy :D

  • Barrylocke89

If I didn’t just get the Special Edition of the PSP version last fall I would have been pretty stoked. This VN is pretty solid though, so 3DS users should consider checking it out.

  • Junko Enoshima

    My inner fanboy…*orgasm*

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Haven’t played my PSP version from Christmas yet, if the 3DS exclusive features are worth it I’ll double dip I guess.

  • Mordina

I really hope it will get released in Europe as I just got myself a 3DS, mostly just for Fire Emblem Awakening but I never say no to games like this.

  • new_tradition

I’m trying to decide if the extra six side stories will make it worth it if you already have the first two Hakuoki games. Is it completely new content?

I kind of want to get it anyways to support the series though. I would like to hope coming out on 3DS will reach out to more people. I personally still love my PSP and have loads of games still to beat on it, but I understand there are people that move onto whats current, and I think the 3DS still has some years on it, right?

  • Sweet Sui ♥

F*ck yeah, MOAR Hakuoki~! (^o^)/ I love ya, Aksys! xD …Not as much as I love Okita though ;3 LOL

I played the heck out of the PSP version and I enjoyed it immensely~ I’ll be getting this version as well being the crazy Hakuoki fan I am; that fact is absolute ^w^ I hope this leads to more games in the Hakuoki series being released in the west as well some other otome games too (Amnesia, Toki no Kizuna, etc). C’mon Aksys~ you *know* you wanna… :3 lol.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

It’s worth mentioning though… Warriors Of The Shisengumi is kind of shitty. It’s one of those games that you play while you are on the toilet and when you beat it you forget about it’s existence, which is a shame.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Will you at least let the community know what you see as weaknesses compared to other games in the series?

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

The gameplay feels like a very shallow copy of Dynasty Warriors with much less enemies, it splices the story of Demon Of The Fleeting Blossom with the bland combat sequences and while it seems like a great way to attract newcomers, it’s also done fairly poorly. However, there’s an alternate storyline that’s the main reason as to why you would buy it but there’s a catch: you can check it out but if you haven’t played Demon then you wouldn’t notice the differences and since it condenses a lot of the story if you play the original storyline then you’d still have to play Demon to notice the differences (And it’s flaws).

In few words it’s the Hakuoki equivalent to Yakuza: Dead Souls, only without zombies. It tries to open up the series and it stumbles hard trying to make it similar to the original series while creating new mechanics for newcomers.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Thanks — that does give folks who were not aware of the game something to do their own research on and consider for themselves.

  • Ladius

Glad to know another audience will be able to experience Hakuoki :)

WHAT!? *Excitement rises* I have my light pink 3DS XL all ready for you!ε(*╹◡╹*)з

  • Alexandra Cordes

This… is amazing. I am so shocked to hear we’re getting an extended version even though we already have the original.
Oh the Heisuke scenarios I will play…

  • Coeurl

I’m there. Does Aksys accept souls? I’ve got blood too.

  • http://twitter.com/Nates4Christ Nate

I tried the psp version. It’s mainly a virtual novel. I did not like it.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    Sui-chan where are you?^_^

    • Sweet Sui ♥

Right here, that’s where :3 My Hakuoki senses never fail ^w^ lol.

      • DyLaN

Sui-chan has been summoned! now release your fangirling on this thread! :P

  • Learii

I wonder how the gameplay like

    • DyLaN

Its a Visual novel. Think of it as a novel with pic + music. There are choices to determine the outcome of the plot though.

  • piichan

I’ve already played and re-played the psp version but I will definitely pick this up to support Aksys. I’m still hoping that they release the fan disk tho, I just want to know the stories behind the pictures instead of drooling at them all day :p

  • http://www.santashi.com/ Santashi

Great news! Warriors of the Shinsengumi just got released on the European PSN today, too, so today seems like a pretty good Hakuouki day. ;)

  • Leah Lawrence
