Dragon’s Dogma And Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Title Update Can Corrupt Save Data

By Spencer . April 30, 2013 . 11:27pm

image Heads up if you have either Dragon’s Dogma or Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. A title update released by Capcom has a serious bug that corrupts save data in certain cases. Since Dragon’s Dogma and the expanded Dark Arisen edition are meaty games you might want to back up your save data now.

Capcom says they are looking into the issue and hope to resolve the problem quickly. If the bug has affected your game, Capcom recommends you play offline.

game like this with corrupted save data= nightmare…
not mentioned DD only have one save data at time….. –“

  • Kaitsu

Oh god. I feel bad for the people who lost their data.

  • Keima88

Dont they test this stuf (like patches) before they release it!?

All those poor gamers who invested all their time and money into this game… And this is how capcom repays them!?

This could have been prevented by simple testing before releasing anything. I seriously hope that capcom have learned from this.

    • Brandonmkii

I’m sure they did a ton of testing before release, but nothing is 100% sure.

      • Keima88

Well thanks to that *ton of testing before release* lots of people are now 100% angry and sad thats for sure.

How did you know that btw? Or is it just your gues that they did the testing? Of course if game developers releases something they got to test it for sure. (Thats only logical) But this time they messed up big time, giving gamers one of their biggest nightmares: corrupted savegames. (More painfull if you spend like 100+ hours on it)

        • SuperBrother

It costs nearly $10,000 to push an update through Xbox Live alone. You think they wouldn’t test the hell out it before dropping that kind of cash?

Of course they messed up but there’s a good chance that this particular error didn’t manifest in testing.

          • Keima88

What done is done. Thats why I said hopefully they learned from this and dont let it happen again. Or at least put more effort in it.

The damage that corrupted savegames can cause to a gamer is so darn painfull.

          • Pyrofrost

But if it’s an error that happened not to appear in testing, what would be the lesson? Test indefinitely until an error appears, possibly never releasing it?

Sadly we live in a world where nothing is 100% flawless, so things like this are bound to happen from time to time.

There is no denying that corrupted game saves are a bitch though. It has happened to me before, so I understand.

          • Keima88

Yeah, I like these chain of posts. It feels like life.

            Something bad happens.

Emotions flow freely. Anger, sadness and feeling of lost.

Trying to blame it, trying to understand it.

Accept what is happend and moving on.

Btw for your question : check what caused the error in the first place and can it be prevented for next time. Learn from it and be better at it.

  • Piotr Rusewicz

I got corrupted not my save or character data but gifts for my pawns from other players.

  • Draparde

Hmm, i haven’t noticed anything messed up with my file, I hope it continues to remain that way.

It sucks, and I hope it doesn’t happen again, but accidents do happen.
    (sorta like skyward swords X_x)

  • Sekai-jin

I always have a back up save file transferred to my PC once in a while.. for case like this.

  • Curan_Altea

My PS3 automatically downloads updates because of PS Plus. I really hope nothing happened since I reached level 50 on a new game already.

  • AnimeLeirus .

I just inform all my friends who play Dragon’s Dogma.

  • Gildohma

Corrupted Data is the reason why I never finished Demon Souls… Over 70 hours gone.

    • that’s a total bummer…i had to restart my game cause i messed up the part where ostrava gives you the ultimate upgrade item for faith builds and the key to the mausoleum. i’ve been meaning to go back and platinum that game.

      • Gildohma

I tried playing through it again but I just couldn’t do it… my character never came out the same either… the first time I spent over 4 hours on him to make him look like Guts from Berserk. I just didn’t have the motivation the second time around.

        • ShadowDivz

          People never do.

I don’t know why, but after a savegame corrupts i just can’t bring myself to touch it again.

It’s like having someone rape your virgin bride, it’s not her fault but… you just can’t look at her anymore.

        • oh shit. yeah i never try to make my character look like anyone besides a bad ass or preferably a good looking lady. however on my last playthough of darksouls i made a blue skinned chick and that was pretty cool it took me a while fucking with randomizer to get it just right so i’d have been pretty bummed if i lost that one. i hope you get back to it though those games are some of my favorites of all time. perhaps next time i’ll try to make a character like guts even though i haven’t seen berzerk i here good things though.

  • TaihoT3

This happened to me a few days go. I was level 75 when It got corrupted.

I swear this game is so lucky that I like it so much. Im already back to being level 70 on a new character…… Im only upset that I dont get my Armor sets and Unlimited Ferrystone

  • it’s a good thing i saw this article before firing this up. good thing terraria has kept me busy.

  • rainelee

Whew. Glad I came on Siliconera first. Thanks.

  • Charlottes Guradian

Welllll….crap. It just got my save data :(

So much work, so much time…. Well, I guess its new game time. It just wont be the same this time though….

  • Christopher Nunes

Wow… I updated a little while ago but I didn’t get any corrupted data and I deleted my Game Data because I thought the updated messed with the Ur Dragon that I was trying to power grind off it, without realizing I was fighting the ONLINE version and not the OFFLINE version.

In the end, that little misunderstand of mine’s saved me a ton of trouble! But I already have a backup save on my eternal Hard Drive as my PS3 got frozen and I had to restart it. Luckily I didn’t progress too far on my return and I can easily gain back my lost levels, I went from LV123 to LV137 on my old DD game.

I will play DD: DA when my Arisen and Pawn are above LV180.

Thanks for the head’s up Siliconera.

Does they know if it’s a platform-specific glitch, or does it affect all -er, genders?
