For the Wii U virtual console or for the Wii virtual console?

    • Brandonmkii

Yeah I’d be surprised if it was for the Wii U VC. Either way, you can access the wii VC from the wii u anyway.

      • Superior Spider-Man

Problem there is, you cannot play Wii VC on the gamepad. I wish it was for Wii U VC.

It’ll get there sooner or later. Sooner would be nice, but it’ll happen.

Oops. Sorry, that was a typo. It’s Wii VC, not Wii U.

  • Ethan_Twain

You know, I grabbed this game on virtual console last year and I don’t necessarily understand the reverence. It was the first Mario RPG and it introduced the timed button press mechanics, and I appreciate that. That’s great. But it doesn’t have the great art and style of a Paper Mario, nor is it as funny and well designed as a Mario and Luigi RPG. As a big fan of both of the current strains of Mario RPG I though it was interesting to see where it all came from but I definitely feel like the formula this game set has been greatly improved.

I, myself, respect your opinion. The paper Mario games are great. Ive never played the mario and luigi games. But thing about Mario rpg isn’t just the game mechanics. It was the first of its kind for the Mario universe. In the 90s, RPGs pretty much ruled the gaming industry; Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star, Legend of Mana, and all the Final Fantasys. Mario was just a side-scroller at the time. Mario RPG showed that even Mario can be more than just a side-scroller.

Mario RPG had a certain magic to it. It was the first Mario to dive into the RPG genre, it gave us a darker image of the mario universe, it had brand new characters that people still love today (and wish they were in other games), and, unless you count Mario 2 which really wasn’t a mario game, RPG was the first mario where you can play as Peach and Bowser.

I loved Paper Mario but I cannot say I enjoyed it as much as i did with Mario RPG. Maybe it’s because I played RPG first. It was something new and magical. It’s the same with Zelda Ocarina of Time for most people, when games were jumping to 3D. Playing all the games following such as Wind waker just did not have the same feeling. RPG is revered the same way Orcarina is revered. Im guessing you are not enjoying RPG most likely because you waited so long to play it. Jumping to old games doesn’t work for everybody since the industry has changed so much since then.

Please, please, please, play the Mario and Luigi games. You don’t know how much your missing out on.

        • Exkaiser

I’ve played the first and third M&L games, but would you say Partners in Time is worth playing?

Ah, jeez, I wish Superstar Saga had been an Ambassador title… My copy got stolen a long time ago.

      • Ethan_Twain

Hey, what a great post! I completely agree, my first Mario RPG remains one of my favorites too (though Mario and Luigi 3 may have barely edged it out, that game is REALLY good). I guess being someone who came to video games a little bit later by the time I got to know Mario he was already a multi-genre self referential hero. By the time I discovered Paper Mario 2 (my first Mario RPG experience) I had already played Mario Tennis, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Party, and Mario Sunshine. So the idea of putting Mario into yet another genre of game was far from a surprise, indeed I would have been more surprised if they hadn’t done an RPG of some sort.

Man I wish this was on the eshop. This is one of my favorite snes games

  • http://altsune.com/ Ovada Bey

Wish it was on the 3DS >_<

    • Edzo04

i know. its pathetic how nintendo is handling VC this generation.

    • idrawrobots

Wish it was free, Nintendo is so lame.

      • http://twitter.com/Dynamus_Lives My Little endy

“It’s so lame how a company wants me to pay for it’s product!”

        • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

          This guy is being sarcastic

          • idrawrobots

Yes I was. You are wise.

          • http://twitter.com/Dynamus_Lives My Little endy

I retract my statement then. My bad.

    • dragoon_slayer12

Nintendo needs to hurry up with the inevitable, just port the entire Wii virtual console to the 3ds. With the circle pad (and eventual 3ds pro), there’s really no issue nor lack of buttons/controls

      • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

That takes money and time, Nintendo is busy with a bunch of things. Get over this instant gratification mentality. Impatient louts.

        • cc

Nintendo exists to make money. The OP suggested an easy way for them to do it. What is the problem?

          • Sekai-jin

Making 3 Zelda (Wind Waker HD, Link to the Past 2, the announced original Wii U Zelda, ), Mario Cart, Super Mario Bros U, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, Yoshi’s Island, Pikmin 3..

Nintendo development team is very busy right now.

          • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I hope they actually do something with Yoshi’s Island and Yarn yoshi here

          • Crevox

Because they lack sufficient information to actually give effective advice

        • dragoon_slayer12

It’s been 2 years plus, and there’s barely 50 VC games available (and that’s being generous). I don’t care for “instant gratification”, but they should at least get their shit together with the VC. 1 or 2 titles a week would be nice, and since they already have they licensingfor the Wii’s VC, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be difficult to get another one to transfer onto the eshop (if need be).

          • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They’ve been busy training their people to code HD games you have to do a fair share of redesign for VC titles on the Wii U. Now what Nintendo needs to do is work on giving new titles in VC. Think about how they are using their time for the mass of all their operations before you start running your hands on a keyboard. What makes the most sense business wise in pleasing and retaining their consumer base. What they have to do to prepare for the future ect. Now you can be fickle all you want but dont go a hollering about priorities.

  • puchinri

Ah, blast it. I just got Super Metroid yesterday. Maybe I can find a couple of other games to buy. . .

  • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I was just about to buy this XD glad I got super metroid as well :>

  • Mir Teiwaz

SMRPG was the first RPG I ever played to completion. It was also the only RPG at the time I had any access to that didn’t seem to require ridiculous amounts of grinding just to be able to clear the game.

Now I haven’t played the newer Mario RPG’s aside from Paper Mario on the N64, but I recall liking SMRPG more just because I liked the art style in that game more than I liked the style of the Paper Mario games.

  • ReidHershel

Damn it! I just spent my Club Nintendo stuff on Mario 64 >:(

  • Dexward

Super Mario RPG. It is the only one just for me.

  • fireemblembeast

I barely touch my wii anymore… if only it was for 3DS. Anyways, I better get this because I’ve heard it’s good and I don’t want to lose those points I haven’t been spending in years (they freaking took away 1200 points last year without any advance warning because they “expired”…wtf nintendo maybe I would use them if you had good stuff like FE Awakening soundtrack! … >_>)

  • Howl

I have plenty of coins (some that are about to expire) So i will definitely get this. One my all time favorite games. Top 3!

  • Ben Sylvia

Oh how I wish this was available on 3DS VC.
    T.T

  • gamerdude

It’s cool that club members have this stuff but for the love of all things good do not keep them exclusive. I’m willing to pay good money for these products!
I lost my 4 swords with my first 3ds. Why can’t I buy it with money from the store?

    Makes no sense to me.

  • LustEnvy

I about had a heart attack when I saw the ’3DS’ up top. Then I read, and reality set in. Of course Nintendo wouldn’t bring a masterpiece like SMRPG to the 3DS. :(
