WayForward Technologies’ Game Boy Color Shantae game is headed to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, the publisher has announced. Shantae will be available in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand towards the end of June.

As previously reported, WayForward are also working on a new Shantae game for the Nintendo eShop. Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is a Metroid-esque game with connected areas and upgradeable items. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.

So this is a prequel to the Shantae title already available on the eShop?

    • Not really, this game came first (was released on Game Boy Color near the end of the GBC’s lifespan) so it isn’t a prequel, it’s just the game that came before the DSiWare one.

Woo! About time. Feels like it’s been forever since Way Forward announced the title was going to be on the VC.

Finally! I’ve given up finding the original cart for a reasonable price. This release will give everyone a chance to play it.

So the whole darn Shantae series may soon be digitally available? I think I’d like that. I think I’d like that very much.
