Pre-Order Dragon’s Crown For A 64-Page Art Book In North America

By Ishaan . May 9, 2013 . 2:49pm

Shin Megami Tensei IV isn’t the only game from Atlus that’s getting a meaty limited edition in North America—Dragon’s Crown is, too.

Pre-ordering Dragon’s Crown from participating stores will get you a 64-page soft cover art book of full-colour illustrations from the game. The book will include artwork of the characters, environment backgrounds, and descriptions from the artist as well.

Additionally, the book will also include commissioned illustrations of the Dragon’s Crown universe from three Japanese videogame artists—Akira Yasuda (Darkstalkers, Marvel vs. Capcom), Kinu Nishimura (Code of Princess, Virtue’s Last Reward), and Gouda Cheese AKA BENGUS (Super Street Fighter II, Darkstalkers).

Dragon’s Crown will be available on August 10th in North America. The game will cost $49.99 and $39.99 on PS3 and Vita respectively. You can visit the game’s pre-order page here.

  • Meanwhile in Europe: “TBA 2013” _ノ乙(、ン、)_

    • TheRealMalek ships worldwide and neither PSVIta or PS3 are region locked…

      • Maybe I should consider importing this game for once. Normally, I refrain from importing English games that may come to Europe later on, but… yeah.

      • If there’s definitely no significant DLC I would be very tempted to import. Hopefully won’t get hit with another £14 customs charge like I did with the last game I ordered from VGP!

        • TheRealMalek

Don’t take “fast” delivery and your chance to be charge with customs will be lowered..

          • I thought VGP only had a flat $7.49 delivery charge?

    • Demeanor

Instant import from eu here, must have this and must have this asap! ^ ^

  • Lucian Kara

I miss the days when limited editions came with worthwhile add-ins like old Working Designs games on the PSX. Still, I am interested in the art book here due to the commissioned art pieces.

    • Ryudo9

Xseed has done a pretty god job IMO. They can’t go to crazy as that was one of the major reasons WD closed. They pretty much bankrupt themselves on CE’s

  • urbanscholar

This one of those rare occasions where I use this word

  • AnimusVox

Art contribution from Yusuke Kozaki would’ve been awesome too.

  • Raoni Marques

Dammit, I think I’ll have to import it. Too bad it will take a long time to arrive. All those pre orders bonuses are a pain for us brazilian gamers…

  • TheRealMalek

Pre ordered somtime ago from so i will have it :p. (by the way i’m european and VGP ships worldwide ^_^)

  • Youko

I preordered from Amazon some time ago so will they upgrade me?

    • NeoAthanasius

They should if they are offering the promotion. It wouldn’t hurt to talk to one of their customer reps, just to make sure. Missing this book would be a terrible thing!

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I’m pretty sure they will, but I’m going to check anyway, since I did the same thing. I must have that art book in my life.

  • Oh man, Kinu Nishimura take on these characters should be amazing. So glad a Vanilaware game is finally getting an artbook. They really need to release some massive premium artbook packed with art from Princess Crown, GrimGrimoire, Odin Sphere, Muramasa, Grand Knights History and Dragon’s Crown. Or like two volumes. The first volume featuring art from the first three games and the second focusing on the other three.

  • Neophoton

Must get! Cannot wait to play this with my friends. :D

  • Hoshi星

I pre-ordered both Vita and PS3 version already. Will I get the artbook twice? I sure hope so :D

    • Heh, give one to a friend to make them jealous that they don’t have the game~!

    • Prinny Dood

You wiil if you ordered from differnt stores as I did

  • Cameron Ward

So the amazon usa page doesnt show the preorder yet, but awesome

  • Aoshi00

So is it just from Amazon & Gamestop, or all the stores listed on the Atlus link as well? I pre-ordered from Newegg months ago the PS3 ver for $40.. Hope they would be more clear about it on the website later. Otherwise would switch to Amazon for the artbook.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I preordered the PS3 ver from Amazon when it was $40 as well. I’m hopeful it will get upgraded with the art book too.

      • Aoshi00

you should be safe, Amazon always includes the bonus even if they are announced after the pre-orders. I got mine from Newegg when it was $37.99 (but comes to almost $40 since I live in one of the few states that they charge tax *.*, well in several months we get charged tax for all online purchase though).. I actually ordered it at $30 at first before they changed publisher, I heard many people got Amazon to honor the initial price even after their orders were canceled, maybe I should dig out that order cfm e-mail to see if I could order it at $30 again lol..

  • eliel

is dragons crown(ps3) gona have cross buy?… I don’t mind getin both if theirs no cross buy ;)

  • So I assume they aren’t doing the cross-play thing this time around? That woulda been nice… Anyway, yeah, There is absolutely no reason you shouldn’t take advantage of this if you’re thinking about per-ordering Dragon’s Crown. Vanillaware artwork is a treasure all on its own.

  • Done and done =^_^=

  • TheInternetNomad

a bundle with both games would be nice

  • fds_nextdart

All artbooks should come with a dedication to Shaylyn Hamm on the first page. That’d be grand~.

  • z_merquise

I just hope the game store here in my country would also include these pre-order stuff like when I bought Code of Princess (mini-artbook and OST CD) and Metal Gear Rising (Gray Fox DLC).

An artbook from Vanillaware is something I should not miss.

  • riceisnice

Judging from what I’ve seen so far, that artbook is going to be pretty unique…

  • Lazulis

That pretty pretty vanillaware art what will make me feel inferior as artist everytime I look at it? In nice artbook form?

YES PLZ. I really wish crossplay were possible…my friends are probably going to get it for Vita…and I don’t have one yet…

  • Taylor Davis

Cool, and probably this art book will be much better than Fire Emblem Awakening’s art book. Also the covers looks awesome!~
(I had to buy Fire Emblem Awakening Kakusei Model Sheets Knights of Iris Art Book. Because its much better than the pre-order art book, in my opinion.)

  • dragoon_slayer12

I am fed up with this shit. I download everything, and I’m being alienated from these bonuses and collectors editions. They need to do something for digital customers too….

    • Herok♞

Well how exactly do you think they will handle distributing physical goods to digital customers and if you choice digital over physical you have to weight in the fact you don’t get the same stuff as everyone else

      • dragoon_slayer12

Gamestop does preorders for dlc content for high profile games, but they don’t do preorders for digital titles, weird for two reasons. A) why preorders anything digital, it’s not going anywhere. B) what makes preorders dlc more important than a digital title?

Now, with my problem, there can be various solutions if developers/publishers) distributors really cared for its digital customers that DO LIKE THE PERKS OF SPECIAL EDITIONS AND PREORDER BONUS’. Retailers can start doing preorders for digital titles, thus allowing the same treatment. Pubs and devs can start allowing preorders and/or purchases from their site (or partner site) and when purchased and released, you will be sent an email with code to download, and bonuses will be mailed shortly after, or shipped earlier to be receive close to release date. Or, in cases like this and KH HD remix, art book can be distributed in a digital format as well. In cases like dissidia 2 and 3rd birthday, extra costumes, characters, maps, etc, can be free if purchased in the games first week.

There are many solutions that can be taken if anybody really cared. I’ve always been a suckerfor bonuses, but my digital preference (mainly due to convenience) will aalways comes first, and I refuse to compromise for the physical version just for the bonus’. And to me, it’s wrong to alienate people like me. I have my reasons for going digital (help contribute to a growing future for starters), but I shouldn’t be excluded from the perks either.

And your correct, I don’t get the same stuff as physical buyers. I only get the game sans the manual and case. For a fact, loading times aren’t any faster, frame rates aren’t any smoother, graphics aren’t any smoother. So without performance booster, despite, theoretically, it should be faster and smoother playing it from “one particular location” rather than an optical reader bouncing all over the place reading from various spots on a disc

  • TheExile285

sweet. i will go preorder my copy

  • ArOne

Does the ps3 version come with Crossbuy? This is crucial information.

    • Cheesy12

It does not. It only has cross save I believe.

      • dragoon_slayer12

        Correct on both

  • Prinny Dood

    I already preorder mine :)

  • benhofb

Sweet! This is like the summer of DLC bonuses!

  • pridesin

Do you think there will be Collector’s edition available in future? I am not sure if I should pre-order it now or wait for the Collector’s edition.

    • Pyrotek85

I think this is it, sorta. They’re just not charging you extra, but it’s still limited. Probably they would have announced it at the same time otherwise.

    • Zeik56

Probably not, but it’s not that hard to cancel a pre-order if it does happen.

  • Asura

First Vanillaware game where I do not want an artbook one bit.

  • Strelok the Stalker

I’d really love to get this but I’m afraid that by the time I can afford it they’ll be all out. Just how many will they have and how long will it last?

  • Cameron Ward

So when are the sites putting down that they are making this offer…

  • Aww. Would’ve preferred a hardcover book…..

    I’ll think about it.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Praises on high, blessed be to Atlus and VanillaWare! PS3 and PS Vita versions have been pre-ordered for about a year now. This makes this purchase that much sweeter.

  • Nice. I’ve had this pre-ordered on NewEgg with a $15 off coupon for, what feels like, forever and it seems NewEgg is one of the stores offering the pre-order bonus.

  • HPN

Preordered this in effing Dec ’11 on Amazon, they canceled my order, preordered it from GameStop when it was available again. Really hope I get my art book. The art is awesome — Kotaku can go suck a hairy dwarf.

  • Dexward

Does the bonus come if I pre-ordered one for one console or both?

  • Ladius

Can’t wait to get my hands of both versions, I think I will be the only one using the wizard though :P

    • Solomon_Kano

Nah, I decided on the Wizard from the get-go. So that’ll at least be two of us haha.

  • gamefreak86

    Freakin sweet.

  • Silver Phoenix

If you import it and don’t buy the US version it will affect the sales here in the states. I would hope you wouldn’t want it to fail here, right? You could always buy both. :P

  • Crevox

    • Solomon_Kano

      • Crevox

Thanks for the response. :) Totally okay with that!

        • Solomon_Kano

          No prob.

  • Adam Zaorski

And Europe?! What about Europe goddamn….

  • so….do i buy for ps3 or for vita?

  • Follower_of_Pram

I’d be for it if there was a soundtrack, but a artbook with the thunder thighs? I’ll pass (‘course that’s not the only reason)…

  • Kalis Konig

Wonder if Amazon is participating. Would go to gamestop and reserve it but they tend to not always give you promised reservation bonuses in my area.

  • None of the stores linked from the Dragon’s Crown website say anything about a pre-order bonus. What is up with that? It’s kind of rude to advertise this book with no guarantee that you’ll even get it.
