  • Crevox

They’re really going all out on this one.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Frankly, they’re not going all out enough.

As much as people are praising the switch to 3D, it’s all just visual candy; Game Freak isn’t using the 3D to change how we interact with the world in any way. The game is still restricted to routes and there is still no analog movement.

Overall, it’s like the previous Pokémon games, but in a different packaging.

      • XypherCode

In a way they’re still going all out. It’s just that they still need to retain elements from the last generations the people loved about the series. This, IMHO is a pretty big leap compared to the last gens, and I’m not just talking about the switch to 3D. Of course GameFreak still wants to add that unique flavor to it since it’s the first of the main Pokemon series on new hardware. In any case we still don’t have any solid info for other gameplay elements (added or retained) in the game, so I think it’s still too early to judge.

      • Pockystix

they showed diagonal movement in the trailers, didn’t they?

      • NTaiyokun

There is analog movement. Did you even watch the recent trailer?

        • Tom_Phoenix

Really? I watched the recent trailer and the only hint of there being analog movement was the segment where the boy is walking next to the pavement. Otherwise, the characters are running around in a straight line.

          • Symbol de Au

Well you can see in one of the screenshots here some diagonal movement.

          • Renaldi Saputra

and thus you can avoid battling trainers that hinder your way

          • Jrocy247

My mind is being blown, We get to move diagonally!

          • Tom_Phoenix

I see….I guess it’s possible that there is analong movement afterall, then (although it’s also possible that they just allow you to move diagonally).

          • Symbol de Au

You were right about this. Just confirmed.

      • Sergio Briceño

You can at least move diagonally now so that is a start, look at the screenshots.

      • Nanaki

It sounds like you already played the game.
        ….what’s your secret? Huh? Huh???
But seriously, judging these things from a trailer of a game that’s months away–Ah what the heck, think what you want. I still think it’s going to be awesome. ❤

        • Tom_Phoenix

I’m a member of IMF. I managed to sneak into Game Freak’s facilities and steal the latest prototype. It was a close call, though.

But seriously, I never said that the game won’t be awesome. It’s just that the trailers and screenshots so far indicate that they’re not really using the switch to 3D to its full potential, which is a shame.

          • Renaldi Saputra

I kind of agree with u somehow..
but let’s just see the further update… maybe they’ll announce something different again

      • Robgoro

It might behoove you to reserve some of those judgments until more is revealed about the game. It’s still half a year from release.

  • Lubulos

Holy Tajiri, the city looks fantastic.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

English sreenshots here. I aim to please

    • Pockystix

oh neat, they have art for every type of trainer now?

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        seems to be that way

    • KingRuff

Why is the female trainer circled in the first pic? Or better yet, why is she there? Is she our rival like in the classic games?

      • DuskSharkEX

Somebody circled her to point her out, as it’s not there on the official site. I think she might be your rival in this game.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

shows the female MC with alt hairstlye and no hat

        • Godman

So there’s a chance we can remove our hat

          • I think he’s saying you can go into other peoples game worlds. Which is an evolution of the features present in the BW games

      • s07195

Perhaps it’s because the trainer is facing diagonally, maybe?

    • Ahahaha. “Lass Anna” is “Miniskirt Rika” in the Japanese version.

      • Hound

        “Lass” makes her classy.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        Dat censoring

        • Symbol de Au

Is it really censoring? She’s still in the miniskirt they’re just not calling her out on it. Also every English Pokémon game has had the lass so far…I think.

      • Haha, noticed that too. Thought Miniskirt was a new trainer type til I saw the English screenshots

      • JustThisOne

Bahaha, so I was curious to see if that meant Younger Joey would be “Shorts Joey”… And it turns out the Youngsters would be something like “Shorts Youngster”.

    • komiko12

Whoa. Even not important trainers get this kind of versus animations.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

yupe, The non important trainers are stepping up lol

        • komiko12

Now let’s see the gym leaders have some short epic animated intro before the fight :D

      • Krisi92

Everybody is important in this world. :D
By the way, it would be pretty cool if these random trainers would have skin/hair/clothes differences, like your main character. That would actually make these VS-thingies unique.

  • stealth20k

    looks good

  • Settsuo

2013 needs a slogan for all the amazing games being released.

    • phoenix3934

  • stealth20k

That panda will be a fighting/dark pokemon when it evolves. i get that feeling

    • Renaldi Saputra

      it evolves fatter, into Po

  • Anime10121

I just realized the ramifications of full 3D! WE ARE FINALLY ABLE TO MOVE DIAGONALLY!!!! Man those shots look smexy :D

    • Lemon

I’m really digging the 3D, too. Hopefully it doesn’t tire my eyes, though.

      • Hound

I’ve always found 3D to be an issue in games with a lot of scrolling or excessive action across multiple planes.

Since this new Pokemon seems to have you very close to the main character and zoomed into the pokemon & ball, I’d imagine that the 3D would need to be off most of the time to avoid irritation.

    • Skye Johnson

Man, finally being able to move diagonally. That’s too much new power to handle~

Next we’ll be able to climb over ledges!

      • natchu96

But even then you’ll still be stopped by a single twig and be unable to swim . . .

      • JustThisOne

Climb over ledges? Never. How else can they prevent you from getting items? :<

        • Skye Johnson

          Really Stubborn Trees.

          • JustThisOne

Ah yes, the R.S.T., Sudowoodo’s distant cousin.

  • XypherCode

So does that mean we can walk diagonally now? xD
What I want to see next are the battle UI and battle options.

    • Pockystix

yes, they showed it in the newest trailers XD

      • XypherCode

I saw the trailer but not sure if I saw them walking diagonally. Sitting on a bench and customization for me were the killer features. XD

  • Highasthesky

More interaction with the Pokemon world at least for me would be appreciated i like that in R/S/E G/S/C HG/SS you had the ability to call trainers and gym leaders while the people were annoying as hell and the gym leaders only wanted too battle certain days that sense of immersion from the repetetive conversations you had really got me hooked when playing those games

    • Krisi92

      Dude, commas.

      • Highasthesky

        • zaidandzhadow

          G/S/C ???

          • Highasthesky

  • I wonder if enemy trainers now also chase/approach you if they spot you from a certain distance.

  • Lisa Fraulein

And after 6 generations, you can finally sit on the bench XDXD

  • Elemiel

Too many games coming out, I want them all! D:

    • Kioku

I absolutely agree with you, too many awesome games are coming out this year.

    • Hound

      Gotta collect them all?

  • Spirit Macardi

The only thing they could do at this point to make me want this more would be if they made the battle system real-time x3

    • Renaldi Saputra

it will be action RPG if battling on real time

      • Spirit Macardi

Yes. Yes it would. And it would be awesome!

        • Renaldi Saputra

idk but it seems they won’t do action RPG for pokemon main series.. maybe the will do on those spin-off (minor) series

  • Shane Guidaboni

    I hope battles are fast.

    • Renaldi Saputra

if you want faster then simply turn off the battle animation

      • Shane Guidaboni

I wanted to do that in Pearl and Diamond, but they didn’t have that back then, and text crawled at a snails pace. I did beat the game, but battles grated on me.

        • Symbol de Au

I think you could do that in Diamond and Pearl…but if it was named Battle Scene instead of Battle Animations I can see how you missed it…You could also speed up the text.

          • Krisi92

True, but D/P was still by far the slowest Pokémon game. The wait between texts, animations, and HP-lowering in battles was the longest for some reason, which made it more tedious. They corrected this in Platinum.

          • Symbol de Au

Heh. I only played Platinum but to be honest I barely remember it…

          • Renaldi Saputra

I see.. the time when battling chansey was damn slow.. bcos its enormous HP number even though I one-hit-KO it

          • Shane Guidaboni

Huh, well what do ya know! I don’t know why I didn’t see that in the options. I think the text thing only applies to out of battle text, though.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This year is indeed year of 2013DS lol. My money is simply not enough.T_T

  • These screenshots continue to fuel my hype =^_^=

  • Steven Higgins

Slightly off-topic here but, even though it’s generally accepted (and probably true) that Xeneas and Yveltal are based on the Norse myths of the deer and eagle living on Yggdrasil, has anyone given any thought to the possibility that they may actually (or additionally) be based off the Behemoth and Ziz of Judaism/Christianity? This would also fit the follow up game (assuming it’s the traditional enhanced remake and not another pair of sequels) as the Z Pokemon could be based off Nidhoggr/Leviathan.

    • Those were already used; the Judeo- Christian myth of the Leviathan, Behemot and Ziz was used to create Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza (according to what I’ve read) :P

    • Renaldi Saputra

is the deer named Sleipnir? IIRC

well some ppl said it was based on Skandinavia mythology indeed
uhh yggdrasil.. God of Digital World
      whopps, wrong topic.. lol

      • Steven Higgins

No Sleipnir is Odin’s eight-legged horse. The word “deer” in this case is plural because there are four of them. Dainn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Durapror. Each one has a gem in their antlers whose colors coincide with those in Xerneas’. Xerneas could be a combination of these four.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          I see

    • Tenno Seremel

They are based off Xenogears. [pokerface.svg]

  • Renaldi Saputra

    whut!!! very nice..

  • puchinri

I really love everything I see so far. I am just so excited and hyped for this. I can’t wait for October. ♥

Starting June, I probably won’t put my 3DS down for a long time, between AC, this and BD.

  • YoshEE

Always thought that girl was a rival but only to found out it is just a normal trainer.

  • kassandra

i can’t wait for this though i’m utterly dying to play shin megami tensei IV,

overall this year is looking good for 3ds owners.

  • komiko12

Diagonal movement sure gives us new and exciting ways to avoid trainers when we are not in the mood to fight with them.

    • Niermyico

Unless those trainers will also diagonally face you if you try to avoid them, like some tricky trainers.

      • JohnNiles

Oh man, I hate the ones that look left and right rapidly. How do they not break their necks? I can’t even imagine what they’ll look like in this gen.

        • komiko12

Yeah in previous games, when trainers look left and right, movement is instantaneous. It was okay since they were itsy bitsy sprites then but now that they have models, it would be weird.

    • JustThisOne

Now that I think about it, it’s going to be a lot harder to force your own double battles, haha.

  • Sakurazaki

I really hope they do a lot with character customization in this or next games. I’ve always wanted to be my own kind of trainer.

Probably asking for too much though.

  • Ricardo C
    • Renaldi Saputra

      not that similar..
different eye color and a bit hair style
      btw who’s she?

      • Ricardo C

It’s not too different that it strays away but very its very close design-wise. As for the hair style if you were to make a less detailed version then you’d get the one from the left so it’s pretty much the outlines.

Anyway, hes Jessica Ushiromiya from Umineko

    • Shinra

No, you aren’t the only one happy.
The first thing I also thought when I saw her was that she looked like Jessica.

      • Ricardo C

        awesome! Another fan :D

  • Abyan Haidar

if we can move diagonally…. did it means there will be trainers that run and chasing you?

  • Guest

Impressive. But Imma wait for the updated version of X&Y since they’ve done that for every generation.
