My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu Vita Game Expands On Original Story

By Spencer . May 16, 2013 . 10:39pm

image5pb, the publisher of visual novels like Steins;Gate and Corpse Party, are making a My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu video game for PlayStation Vita.

Instead of rehashing the anime series, My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu for Vita will have an original story written by Wataru Watari, the original creator of the series. A limited edition will include an OVA on Blu-ray. My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu is slated for release this summer.

Pretty nice anime, interesting for it to get a Vita game.

  • tubers

    Hmm.. that’s nice..

VITA seems tied to anime a lot.

AFAIK there was a Pet Kanojo VITA game..

Oreimo and Hataraku Mao (animes) have PS VITAs in them (parodied).

    • Xerain

    • Kevadu

It’s just continuing the trend that was already well-established for the PSP.

    • Yeah. The irony is the game that showed up in oreimo’s anime on the PS Vita was Love Plus which is for the 3ds. lol. Maybe hinting at a Vita release? There’s also Steins;Gate, Fate Stay Night and Little Busters for Vita as well. Though you could say Steins;Gate is available in every single platform.

  • Wrestling_God

I am 98% sure this will not come to the US..but it will be nice if it did since I like the series.

    • Kevadu

Only 98%? It’s an anime spin-off visual novel. Since when have any of those *ever* been localized?

      • psycho_bandaid

        Nothing is impossible….

        …Ok. Maybe this is impossible. T_T;;

      • Wrestling_God

I was just being kind..for myself at least…

      • Testsubject909

        Sakura Wars.

        • Kevadu

Sakura Taisen was a game first (and furthermore it has tactical RPG elements, it’s not just a VN). The anime was the adaption, not the other way around.

          • Testsubject909

            Fair enough.

      • Renaldi Saputra

VN (except for PC) and PSP Namdai games (except the major titles) are usually have the same chance of localization

    • I am 100% sure this will not come to the US. I think the only VN that has ever been released on the west is Corpse Party Book of Shadows and that is just because the first game which had game play elements was successful. Oh and Zero’s Escape.

  • s07195

    On the Vita?! Aww….

    • Testsubject909

Come. Buy one. It feels great in the palm of your hands, you can customize it nicely to really make it feel like it’s yours. The dual analog works smoothly and wonderfully. PSP games look amazing on that awesome screen.

      And it’s region free.

      • Honestly Visual Novels are right at home with the PS Vita’s oled screen. It really brings out the beauty of the artwork. If I’d say its the best platform for Visual Novels.

      • s07195

I’m getting ‘Join the dark side’ vibes from your post… :S

  • If this game parallels the anime, it’ll definitely give you a unique experience as a visual novel. The show is smart, funny, and full of highly relatable social commentary from the POV of an adolescent social outcast.

If you can play these types of games, I’d really suggest keeping your eye on this one.

    • Kevadu

I agree, the anime is really well-done. It breaks the mold of these types of shows and is genuinely clever and funny. I don’t normally buy these kinds of games, but I might make an exception this time.

      • Kai2591

I’m never interested by these types of games that are adapted from anime/light novel/manga, but since this one will have an original story written by the author him(her?)self….I really wish it gets localized, but the chances are so, so slim… :(

        • I don’t think any visual novel has any chance of getting localized except Steins;Gate. If Steins;Gate can’t do it then no one can. You’re better off learning japanese. Then again I’m also talking about consoles. PC VNs have a better chance at localization but I doubt this will ever appear on PC.

          • BlackInferno

Well, the Zero Escape series has been localized, but that’s not based on an anime. who knows though, it’d be awesome if this did get localized. Hell, I’d get a Vita to play this. I love this show, so if there’s a way for me to play a localized version of the game I’m in

          • Yeah. Zero Escape and Corpse Party are one of the few exceptions.

    • ChiffonCake

Huh… well, you just managed to completely negate the abyss-deep negative first impression the name gave me. Guess I’ll look into it later.

  • psycho_bandaid

I really like this show! Maybe someone will make an Attack on Titan game as well someday? This season has been a pretty good one for anime.

  • kroufonz

    8man Begins!

nice to know the author will involve, in terms of LN/anime adaptation i am not sure how good 5pb is.

  • DyLaN

Awesome! The anime is one of my fav of the season and more Totsuka/Yui/Chunibyou guy/8man and Yukino banter is always a welcome.

But its a 5pb VN and anime game so……

  • I had a feeling they were going to do a game since MAQL has this

  • Final Aura

If this get localized I will indeed get it

    • I’ll still grab it though cause I love the anime, not saying you don’t but they’re probably not going to release the OVA overseas

  • Carabutifarra

WTF is My teen romantic comedy? Is not Yahari ore no seishun love come wa machigatteiru?

    • brian

Likely a name for the localized anime series.

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

The name chosen by the company that has licensed it for America and UK.

    • As noted by Brian, “My Teen Romatic Comedy SNAFU” is the official English localization name for やはり俺の青春ラブコメはまちがっている. I’m not a fan of the name, would have preferred something more literal like “There’s something wrong with my Rom-Com afterall…” but that doesn’t really feel like a marketable title in English.

I’m gonna have to pick this up for sure. Hikigaya is probably my favorite MC ever.

      • epy

Yeah, not a fan either. Still can’t believe it’s the official title. I thought it was a random title a fansub came up with.

        • biskmater

I think it is the name written in the backs of the LN volumes, so yeah, you got screwed over by some overly ambitious japanese cover editor,

          • Kevadu

Nope. The English name you see on th Japanese books is, “My Youth Romantic Comedy is Wrong as I Expected”. Which is pretty literal.

I don’t know who came up with this SNAFU business…

          • biskmater

Oh you meant that part, yeah, that would be
            Crunchyroll, I think.

          • Testsubject909

            … Hmm….

You know, I’m starting to think that the random manga cover generator might be more accurate than I first thought.

PS. The example below is one of the simpler one I randomly got.

    • Nitraion

I think that’s the original title because they always write that at the end of their anime credit… not subber work
And…. The title is long ==” i think this suit it better…

  • Triplicity

    Yui route pls

    • DyLaN

      Saika route too!

  • Nice, and can’t wait for that OVA =^_^=

  • If only they would localize this game…
