Nintendo Considering Tomodachi Collection: New Life For U.S. Release

By Ishaan . June 17, 2013 . 5:30pm

Speaking with the MTV Multiplayer blog, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says that the company is considering bringing their Nintendo 3DS title Tomodachi Collection: New Life to the U.S.

Fils-Aime made the following comment in reply to MTV asking whether or not more Nintendo 3DS games would encourage players to check in everyday, the way the recently released Animal Crossing: New Leaf does:

“Certainly. You’re absolutely correct, that “Animal Crossing” is the type of game that you want to play certainly every day, and there are benefits to having the digital version right there on your hardware. I have to say, personally, I don’t find it a huge inconvenience to be swapping out my game cards. There are other games, “Tomodachi Collection” in Japan, which is something that we are looking hard at for our market, that’s another one that benefits from those short bursts of play, on a day-in, day-out basis.”

Tomodachi Collection: New Life is a life-simulation game that makes use of Miis, and allows them to live out their lives in an apartment complex and interact with one another. The game has not been announced for release in the West yet.

I would get this. seemed interesting when you guys did an article about it

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

What ever happened with that patch for the gay marriage glitch? Did it happen and take it out? If so, I don’t know if I want this game anymore. I mean, I’d still buy it, but with a shake of my head.

    • surakian

Right? I’d love of they could patch in same-sex marriages. They should have just patched out the part where the guy could get pregnant.

      • Hinataharem

Or keep it in. Cuz why not.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because this isnt the Cosby Show. People dont give birth to sandwiches. Leaving bugs in could potential break the game/or allow exploits

          • Hinataharem

I didn’t know it was gamebreaking. My mistake. But in all honesty, I would love for my character to give birth to a sandwich.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They already can, with ones hands. NOW TO THE KITCHEN YOU GO!

        • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

Women can’t marry each other though, so that would need to be patched in. You know, fairness and all.

          • Hinataharem

            Of course.

        • surakian

          Haha, true.

That’s seriously what the game is about? Because…that sounds like a game I would certainly buy, XD. Not sure what’s with me and life-simulation games, but I enjoy them. :3 (Come on Nintendo, release it. Please.)

The charm here is similar to kids playing with action figures (or Barbie dolls), where you basically imagine stuff they do, except this time, you can actually see them doing it.

The people who usually like these games are those that grew up on action figures, Barbies, toy soldiers, etc.

      • AJ

That explains a great deal, actually.

(I’m not the only one who used to steal Barbie clothes and modify them so I could play dress up with Batman and Spiderman, am I? Come on. There were fabulous battles to be had!)

        • Ferofax

…I used to get the giggles every time I strip my sister’s Barbie dolls, lol.

      • katamari damacy

The same thing with LEGOS. Not the pre-set stuff they produce now but the more random mismash of bricks and little people you could have grand adventures with

  • surakian

I’d love to see this game hit stateside! Just…the creepy speech sound might need to be changed because it freaked me out in Japanese and it’d freak me out in English.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Considering?! Do it!

  • Pockystix

well, I’ll take it if they patch in gay/lesbian marriage~

    • Guest

yes, I would get it too if they were patch it, and reintroduce the system as a proper feature, and not just a mere glitch

I never knew MTV did video game stuff, just went to that interview, noticed a popularity contest bracket at the bottom, and saw something surprising.
SMT up against Ass Creed, with a video of each except SMT’s video was replaced with something Transformers related.
This is depressing, SMT got slaughtered.
As for this game, I’d maybe try it out at some point but the main thing that makes me consider trying Animal Crossing is that it’s adorable but this is meh.

To Reggie here, Nintendo should try bringing this game here considering that the market will actually goes together with animal crossing players.

Not to mention, if you can get some famous “artist”(Yeah i said this.T_T) It will actually attract some of its fans as this game will bring dream come true scenario for the fans as it gives them chances having their characters staying in the same house with that artist.^_^

  • kaizin

please bring this over a game like this must be enjoyed by everyone who lives in the U.S >.<.

  • michel

Congratulations to Nintendo, if it happens.

  • Phoenix_Apollo

I think bringing this over would be an interesting experiment for Nintendo, to see if they can expand the market of life simulation games. If they build their marketing off of Animal Crossing and focus on that stuff, they could do quite well. Also, it’d be a nice use for Miis I think, and give us a reason to care finally. It’s also give the 3DS another good shot in the arm for first party software and new IPs, which would be nice.

  • Erikdayo

I would 100% download this from the eShop. Having lots of fun with Animal Crossing too. Definitely the right decision to download that one.

  • Brimfyre

Never been into Animal Crossing, but I could get into this.

  • I will advice them maybe to make DLC for animal crossing because some people are complaining to not be able to change skin color BUT I WANT FANTASY LIFE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

They said in a french interview they wanted to bring the first 2010 game for the DS overseas, experimenting with English and Reggie’s Mii, but then nothing came out of it (also, no FE12).

I hope this wouldn’t be like E3 2003 all over again, with games announced (well… hinted, here) for the US then swept under the rug.

  • katamari damacy

It’s a nintendo-ized take on the sims. At least for me the game is far more involving than constant fetch-questing in animal crossing. Those damn villagers are nothing but a bunch of unappreciative leeches. Since tomodachi collection is more about creating a community and fostering relationships than an actual game per se, it’s far better for those who want a virtual fishbowl to muck around in.
