Square Enix Opens Branch In Indonesia

By Spencer . June 17, 2013 . 12:05am

imageSquare Enix expanded into Southeast Asia with Square Enix Smileworks. The publisher of Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider selected Indonesia because the region has been growing economically and people in the region have more buying power.

Square Enix Smileworks will publish Square Enix titles in the region and eventually develop games specifically for South East Asia. Currently, Square Enix Smileworks has 23 employees, three of which came from Square Enix Japan. Smileworks will also create artwork for social games and recently they held a contest to get artists for Nirvana Genesis, a card game in Japan.

  • Zikrayrus “Zikk” Dis Pear

Ooh…Pretty close to my country too. Hopefully this means more love to SEA regions in the future, we usually get the short end of the stick and it would be great to see that situation improved upon.

  • Bondan Aliano

“..the region has been growing economically and people in the region have more buying power..”

I just had this kind of conversation today with a customer at work, discussing about so many foreign companies are settling their branches here nowadays, news telling that our country has recently taken 2nd place for economic growth in South East Asia (can’t actually believe this at all), or how Indonesian people love spending their money on any kind of new things..

And then this article, LOL. Good for SE though, I know there’s a lot of SE fans here.

  • Mad_Dog_Yayan
