Klavier Gavin Air Guitars His Way Into Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

By Sato . June 19, 2013 . 10:01pm

Capcom have updated their official Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies website with a look at the addition of Apollo Justice’s rocking rival, Klavier Gavin. In addition, we get a closer look at a previously teased third case of the game, that will take place in the middle of a school festival.

Klavier Gavin

Klavier Gavin first made his appearance as Apollo’s rival in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. He is an elite prosecutor form Germany, who can be a little pretentious at times. He has battled Apollo in countless trials and teases him by calling him “Herr Forehead” (Herr = Mr. in German), to poke fun of Apollo’s rather large and exposed forehead.

He was originally a lead vocalist and guitarist of his own rock band called The Gavinners, but since his band has disbanded, he’s devoted himself to his work as a prosecutor. Klavier is known for his air guitar motions and poetic expressions.

The third case is called Turnabout Academy, which takes place in Juniper’s school, called the Themis Law School.

Juniper Woods appeared in the first case as a high school defendant. She is a childhood friend of Athena Cykes and is currently a third-year student at the academy. She also appears to be the head of the student council. Her dream is to become a judge and she attends a “Judge Class” at the academy to help achieve her goal. She is quite the determined young girl, but she also has a weak body that seems to get the best of her at times.

While Athena and Juniper are conversing, a murder case unexpectedly occurs. It doesn’t take long for the hot-blooded detective Fulbright to appear and wrongfully accuse her of the crime. It will be up to Athena to clear her childhood friend’s name.

Some of the clues that will be helping Phoenix and the gang solve the case are a newspaper article that mentions a love-triangle between Juniper and two other male students, and a suspicious man who hides his identity using a cardboard box. The mysterious man who goes by the name of Uwasa Atsume (which means Rumor Collector in Japanese) may know something about the case. It is said that he also has various items hidden in his box that may be crucial in solving the case.

However, the boxed man won’t comply all that easily. Apollo will need to use his bracelet for using the Perceive ability, that allows him to see through lies by observing people’s nervous habits. He’ll be able to use it as an investigational technique to get the truth out of Uwasa Atsume and others. If successful, the boxed man will spill the truth and tell you everything he knows.

When a lawyer and prosecutor meet in Ace Attorney, that could only mean the start of big trial. This time it will be Apollo and Klavier who will unexpectedly be stepping up to the school’s courtroom, for yet another battle of wits between the two rivals. Who will prevail?

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is slated for release on July 25th in Japan and this Fall in the West on Nintendo 3DS.

  • Detrimont

he transitioned well into 3d, however, i dont like hiiiim(whiny voice)

    • Guilherme Matheus Silva

You sounded like Ron Delite just now. XD

  • that courtroom. It looks amazing. This game is looking better and better each time they show something new. Glad to see Klavier’s at the prosecutor stand rather than just a side character as well.

    • $36487238

      Agreed. This game…

Man, it’s weird but this new Phoenix Wright game is a new reason for me to re-buy a 3DS. XD Why is it weird? It was the first Phoenix Wright game that made me buy my first 3DS (before it got stolen last year). And now this new one is making me want to re-buy it soon XD

But yes, I agree. It just gets better and better.

And glad they got Klavier here. He’s quite the comedian when Apollo’s around xD

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Switching protagonists will be very interesting again. However, I hope the story can handle the threads left over from AJ and the new story stuff in tandem. One shouldn’t be sacrificed for the other.

  • Rudy Soto

Goddamnit, Klavier’s on the court again. Where’s the new guy? Why isn’t there instead of him.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

recall that the new guy is a convicted murderer…

      • linkenski

And it looks like case 2 and 3 are flashbacks. The reason why the new prosecutor gets to be in court is because of the terror attacks and the so-called “dark days of law” which happen after case 3.

        • Lusankya

Simon will already be the prosecutor in case 2.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Klavier new looks look really cool.^_^ I mean,i can’t wait to see an air guitar movement in 3D lol.^_^

  • Ty Arnold

I’d like it if they could give Klavier some depth this time around. He was a character with a lot of unexplored potential.

  • Kavyn

I’m confused… is Juniper Woods not the defendant in the first case? Is that girl with the sunflower the same person?

    • Barrylocke89

Poor girl seems to be pushing up on Maya Fey and Maggey Byrde’s role as “that girl that always gets accused of Murder”. I don’t think either of them ever managed to get accused of that more than once per game though :(

      • Maya still holds the record of being the most accused.

  • Pipiskin99

it’s really cool how they managed to transfer all of them into polygonal models while maintening the design and feel, those who had bussiness with 3d modelling know how hard it is

  • heartless141

Godot as well please :D even if just standing in the background sipping on a #102

    • Guilherme Matheus Silva

I don’t know how much you player T&T, but I am not sure if he’ll make an appearance…

      • heartless141

        … i just remembered.
still want an appearance of some sort though.

        • Guilherme Matheus Silva

Yeah, I wanted too… but Capcom can’t bring every old character, right? XD
Godot was just another victim of that… woman… I REALLY hate her! ¬¬

          • heartless141

yeah, she’s one of the women in video games that made me goes “shit women are scary”

just a coffee cup with #102 written on it around the scene and i’m happy.

          • J_Joestar

well she is gone anyways so it’s all good, I’m just wondering what happened to her “other”

          • Guilherme Matheus Silva

The other one… I wonder what happened… She must be training in that Shrine yet

  • Lazulis

Such a good job with the 3d models. Yay, Klavier! That air guitar is going to look awesome. I’m kinda sad that Apollo doesn’t keep the huge coat thing. That looked pretty cool. I love how this game switches between Polly and Phoenix. Man, I can’t wait for this game.

  • 3D Klavier looks hot. Good job!

  • Zoozbuh

So I love how all these characters never seem to age… Despite it being years since the last games, Phoenix and Klavier are still looking as young and pretty as ever! xD In all seriousness though, DO WANT this game.. It can’t come soon enough.

    • bloogeyz

Uhh this is set one year after Apollo Justice…

      • Zoozbuh

Erm.. Only one year? Okay my bad, I guess you have a point there. I guess the disonance between Hobo Phoenix and this version is just a little hard for me to swallow :S Maya would be cool to see, but personally I think the game would be just as great without seeing her (probably in the minority here, but I don’t think she’s *vital* to the series)

    • J_Joestar

Phoenix is clearly older than in the original trilogy, and Pearl has clearly aged significantly
Just hoping for some grown up Maya.

  • Guilherme Matheus Silva

Wait, Perceive is now for investigations? Cool! Probably to put the Matrix Mood in the spotlight.

    • s07195

I think that’s the cardboard box guy testifying.

    • linkenski

Plus it didn’t make sense to use Percieve in court as decisive evidence.

  • Azurelegance

Now the question is: where is Ema Skye?

  • Zonic505

OMG Snake’s on trial? That fool, he was bound to get caught trying to sneak around in that cardboard box!

In any case, this is still looking quite good.

  • ChiffonCake

Wow, Juniper just can’t get a break, huh? But wow, she looks pretty cute in her uniform.

Anyway, this game is looking really great! It looks like it’s picking up elements from several of the previous AAs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Godot ended up making an appearance too.

    • J_Joestar

A classmate who is always getting in trouble? is she like the new Larry or something?

  • Lisa Fraulein

Will Ema appear in this game? I kinda miss her already… and her Snackoos throwing.

    • J_Joestar

yeah, she should at least show up as the lead detective for Gavin’s case, i mean in what world is there that a single detective is seemingly in charge of every case ever?
Gumshoe should also show up if there are any cases that Edgy is personally working on.

      • Shizumasa

Gumshoe must show up. You know what Edgeworth said: Gumshoe indeed! Like gum on your shoe, impossible to get rid of.

So where Edgeworth is, is Gumshoe.

  • Bur

Kind of surprised he kept his hairstyle considering everything that happened with his brother.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

any word how many cases we get? with the dual protagonists, i hope there’s more than 5.

  • Aquarius

Klavier Gavin is a very meh character in my opinion, he had no depth and no qualities to really stand out from other prosecutors in the series, so seeing him back is really a bummer. So much wasted potential since a better character should have taken his spot.

He’s not even close to what Diego Armando (the best prosecutor in my opinion), Franzisca von Karma or Miles Edgeworth have to offer in terms of backstory.

    • VenerableSage

On the flip side, perhaps they’ll use this as a second opportunity to build on his character?

Plus, Edgey is Chief of Prosecutors now and Diego won’t be coming back, so Franzisca would be the only plausible one of the three that could be a prosecutor. And, according to the wiki, she’s been off helping Interpol, so I would imagine that she’ll pop up as a secondary character and not actually as a prosecutor.

There’s also the fact that the Gavin family is tied in to the events that led to this game. Phoenix wouldn’t be back as an attorney, and he’s Apollo’s rival much as Edgeworth is/was Phoenix’s. Unless the number of cases expands, he’ll probably only show up as an opponent in one case, though. (Tutorial case with Payne’s younger brother, Apollo v Klavier, two with the new prosecutor, and then the final case would be where it’d be a long shot to guess who will be in the chairs.)

      • AlexanderPappas

I feel like people are ignoring this pic. Also Klaivier>Franziska every day of the week. Achtung Baby!

  • Bill

    Wait…a law HIGH school? o.O;;;

  • Aerii

Doesn’t anyone think it’s weird that we keep seeing screenshots with Phoenix in them… outside of court? In third person? Generally, you’re not supposed to see Phoenix; you are Phoenix! Maybe this is going to be from Apollo’s POV part of the time.
