Level-5 Knows How To Barrel Roll With Internet Jokes

By Spencer . July 9, 2013 . 11:39pm

For Level-5’s 15th anniversary, they asked fans to vote on their favorite Level-5 characters. You might expect Professor Layton or Mark Evans to be at the top of the list, but the winner by a large margin was the plane from Aero Porter. A bunch of minor Inazuma Eleven characters rounded off the top ten.

Instead of sorting through the votes or asking fans to vote again, Level-5 gave what the pranksters wanted – a 15th anniversary wallpaper with a giant airplane flying over a bunch of Inazuma Eleven characters. Way to take that in stride, Level-5!

  • Haha, love it. Level-5 takes something that could have been a PR fail, and turned it into a PR win. Good work, guys.

  • Hahahah wow. Awesome.

  • freak ya man, that plane changed my life

  • Solomon_Kano

    That’s hilarious. Always loved Level-5.

  • Raze

I laughed too hard at this….

  • JustThisOne

Could not have handled this any better. Except maybe if they did some plane fanservice by giving us some sexy blueprints, or something.

  • Pedro Tavares

Ok now release your games outside Japan.

When I saw the freaking airplane, I was like did Level 5 finally announced something for us outside japan? :(

    Funny though

    • Aero Porter did get released outside Japan. You can go download it right now.

      • Pedro Tavares

I’m not talking about Aeroporter, I’m talking about the actual games.

And people just act like asses and downgrade the psot, takes a genius to understand what I mean I guess..

    • PreyMantis

      It’s called eShop– try it.

    • almostautumn

I’m almost positive that L5NA is a sick joke that L5 uses to get off cheap laughs.
Why Inazuma hasn’t come around yet— I will just never understand. If they can’t license the anime whatever; the games are more than excellent on their own. I remember reading once that it’s because soccer isn’t too big in NA, except that soccer IS big amongst children here, which the Inazuma series is targeted toward so— I just don’t get it.
Little Battlers I recognize a little bit, though. I mean, robot-battles just don’t seem too popular in NA anymore, not to mention that the games are a little more complex than standard anime-childrens games. Also, LB is, like Inazuma, a multi-media project, particularly with model-kits— except model-kits almost don’t exist in NA.

      Still; Inazuma deserves a chance.

  • neocatzon

Hey look, aero porter in the shadow.

    • JustThisOne

      Wha- Woah! Good catch! *__*

  • neocatzon

Hey look, aero porter in the shadow.

  • Pedro Furtado

Inazuma Eleven really is ridiculously popular, huh… They are all new characters too, from the GO series and even Chrono Stone. Kinda sad no Tenma, I like the guy.

    • Guest

Tenma is at #18, the same shirt number he got when first joined Raimon! Coincidence…?

  • $7573679

    Sugoi~! ❤ Airplane-sama! (≧∇≦)/

  • Desukoru

This is one of the many reasons I love Level-5.

In all seriousness, though, I’m not particularly surprised about the dominance of the top 10 by I11 characters. That franchise is absolutely huge in Japan, what with having a popular anime series as well – a lot more so than the Professor Layton series. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of Professor Layton in there, but oh well.

    • Guest

He ended up in place number 13 at least, just behind Endou and Yamano Ban, but not a single character from the Jeanne d’Arc game :(

  • Why can’t /v/ do trolls this fun? It’s always hacking and racism with those guys. Gosh.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    I love trolls XD

  • Repede91

Airplane`chan is mai waifu! She is so kawaii-desu?!

  • Isaac Newton

Ohh Japan you never disappoint me XD

  • Sergio Briceño

If Kirino being up front means he is #2 on votes. Then it’s ok with me.

  • Guest

I think I just found an avatar :D

  • Göran Isacson

Man, didn’t this happen before? They had a poll for top Inazuma Eleven character and trolls totally crashed it and got some sidecharacter in top place. What is with Level 5’s fanbase and troll voting?

Oh well, at least it got us a pretty unexpected, yet still cool wallpaper. Though maybe they should have been seated inside the plane… just a thought.

  • antochi

    “minor Inazuma Eleven characters”
Far from minor, a few I think are just people trolling but at least 3 of them are the most popular characters from the series.
Can’t remember what happened last time with Inazuma rankings but people love to troll the female anime fans that fangirl over them. That’s probably the reason for the plane.

  • Kalis Konig

Wish level 5 would make a bigger push to get thee games sent to the America’s. Until then screw them and their cunning rebuttal.
