I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT. Please, please make it good Bamco.

So what do you reckon this is? They just rebooted Ace Combat, and that reboot only kinda worked. Do they double down on the reboot universe? Do they backtrack to the old Ace Combat universe? Do they try to pull off a triple reboot?

If I were Namco Bandai top brass, I would say that none of these options seem promising. It’s kinda the same conundrum facing Prince of Persia. Which is sad, since neither of those franchises went bad really. They kept being good but just kinda lost popularity.

And hush, Assault Horizon was NOT bad. Not the best in the franchise for sure, but it got an unreasonable amount of hate on the internet.

Yep, we haven’t even talked about Ace Combat Advance yet.

And there’s a good reason for that. Assault Horizon may be more flashy and casual (Not that the originals were as complicated as Flight Simulator X, Birds Of Steel, etc.) but it’s a good game, Ace Combat Advance is just awful in almost every single regard (If your Ace Combat game can’t be as attractive and functional as Air Combat on the PS1 then why bother?!).

AH is actually pretty good. For a western aimed reboot it dosen’t really lose in the gameplay department. It still mostly plays like the other games and it’s additions aren’t bad. I see nothing wrong with the cinematic stuff it does. It looks cool and makes some of the dogfights more exciting. Maybe the game uses it too much, but it’s not a bad idea. Especially the ground version, which makes bombing runs an actual thing in the game.

The game did lack the personality of the previous games and that is a negative, but it was no slouch in the gameplay. It also was a great looking game. Add some of the AC personality as seen in say 5 and you’d have a fantastic game.

I’m not sure if AH could really be considered a reboot. I don’t remember hearing anything from Bamco about all of the games from now on taking place in the real world, and in any case, they had already done that before in Joint Assault.

I still hope that they go back to Strangereal, though.

    Hopefully a new IP.

Other sources have discovered that the new project is titled Ace Combat Infinity through this trademark filing.

  • I remember being excited for the reboot a while back because I hadn’t truly played an Ace Combat game. I figure it would’ve been the perfect time to jump in. Man, was I wrong. If this is like the previous games I’m excited, if it’s like Assault Horizon I’m not sure I want it.

Woah, sad time to jump in. Assault Horizon wasn’t that bad but as an Ace Combat game it felt like it went back severl steps. I was lucky that I started out on Skies of Deception. But I also never had a chance to play the original PS2 games.

And not to dig up old wounds, never had a chance to play Ace Combat 6 because it was not on the PS3…I would buy it right now if it was.

In my opinion, the best ever has been 5. The one with the rendered pilots and lot of plot and dialogues.

Time to hunt the wild dog.^_^

Next Ace Combat with the Strangereal(AC 2 to 6) setting again…
That Ace Combat 3 Remake with the full jap(Muthaf*cking Branch Story) version not the NA ver. crap!

  • GriffithOfTheHawk

I hope that it’s not a Free to Play game and that they return to the AC 6 formula. Assault Horizon was so bad.
Ace Combat and Front Mission are two of my favorites series and their latest installments prove that change is not always a good thing.

  • I hope the game is a great one.
