Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 Adds Poison, Hugo, Elena & Rolento

By Spencer . July 13, 2013 . 2:15pm

image Capcom has a big update planned for Super Street Fighter IV. EventHubs reports during Capcom’s Street Fighter panel at EVO 2013, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will add five new characters.

Elena, Hugo, Poison, and Rolento come from Street Fighter X Tekken. The fifth character is brand new to Street Fighter, but could come from another Capcom game.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 will be sold as a DLC that’s compatible with Super Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. The upgrade will cost $15 and the full Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 game will be a $40 download.

If you get the complete digital release you will get all of the DLC costumes for free and Udon is working on making new costumes that will be a pre-order bonus. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 is slated for release in early 2014.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

my god… well SFxT uses uses a modified engine of SFIV… so I guess why not just throw them into SSFIV.
5th Character… Ingrid? oh wait brand new… nvm

    • D H

Hmmm… I was under the impression Ingrid was in Street Fighter 3 Upper/Max, so she wouldn’t really be “new to Street Fighter,” right?

    • AkuLord3

Pretty much what i thought…i’m surprised but then not surprised. Oh Capcom, Oh Ono…call me when SFV comes out then maybe we’ll talk (and bring back Alex, Ingrid and some Rival School characters like Kyosuke…that be AWESOME).

      • Solomon_Kano

All of my money if Kyosuke joins SF.

      • vileBrenman

capcom needs to make a new rival schools game

  • deathman00789

    Isn’t it 2013? and Alex <3

    • AkuLord3

I’m saddened that i remember seeing something about Ono not liking Alex…like why? Alex is such a Badass but no Abel “i wanna pet the bear…you know?” around cuz he’s the BEST replacement : p

  • Antixono

“Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 is slated for release in early 2014”

    • Brion Valkerion

its a typo in the article. Game wont be called Arcade Edition 2014 either.

      • Tristan Diaz

Yup! You’ll find out everything if you watch the EVO finals tomorrow. Quite exciting! :)

    • artemisthemp

Didn’t Capcom say it was free earlier?

      • Corey Owens

This is Capcom we’re talking about.

      • Antixono

Idk,but now its “Ultra Street fighter IV”

  • ragingmerifes

For one second I thought it was Hyper SFIV announcement.

    • ndjn3979

Isn’t it pretty much that anyway? Damn, Capcom is shameless.

  • endril

Not looking forward to those Rolento matchups, haha.
Prediction on the fifth character: Asura.

  • They are doing yearly installments now?

    • Dynami

the ver. 2012 balance update was released in December of 2011, so by the time this is released (early 2014), there’ll have been full two years with nothing added to the game. Longer if you consider the fact that the original AE was the last time they added ~content~ to the game as opposed to mere balance changes.

  • Monterossa

Holy…. just start making SF5 already.

  • Tristan Diaz

That’s not the official title…It’ll be revealed tomorrow before the EVO finals. Arcade Edition 2012 has been out for a long while now.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

  • Dynami

There’ll also be a disc version of the full retail game, not just a full digital purchase. It’s also been said that there’s six new stages and some additional features as well.

  • Roberto

    Why Capcom Why …..

  • I read elsewhere this is also getting a retail release. I’ve yet to buy SSFIV, looks like my patience/lack of funds continues to payoff. The addition of Poison and Elena is fantastic. Now I have zero reason to buy Street FIghter x Tekken.

    • SuperSailorV

yeah, but now youre like, YEARS behind everybody else. unless youre just gonna play by yourself vs the PC or among your friends, otherwise dont let me talk down on mediocrity

      • “just” and you list three other ways to play lol. I don’t care about competing with tourney level players or online freaks. I play fighting solo, local multi and occasionally online. I’ll have fun, I always do.

        • SuperSailorV

“Just” casual play. Nothing wrong with that, I personally would never settle for staying within a small circle in a clearly competitive game, then again, my idea of fun involves a deeper understanding of the game and self improvement as opposed to mashing shit out like a 5 year old among friends (beating those kids at the arcades all those years ago was not fulfilling whatsoever)

          • Corey Owens

You can still improve yourself and understand the game without aiming to be competitive. It’s not like Street Fighter is a hard game to get into. Anyone could learn the basics and a few B&B combos in a couple weeks.

Not all people who play casually just mash buttons.

          • SuperSailorV

  • Shadowman

They should just made Street Fighter 5 all the new character, all the new updates, all the new stages, same gameplay but a different title.

    • AkuLord3

They could do newish gameplay who knows but yeah nope same game just new faces but aren’t because they’re pretty much going be Mostly likely their SFxT selfs.

      • SuperSailorV

they’ll likely be similar. during the panel, they mentioned adding new attacks, ultras, etc. im also assuming frame data and hitboxes to be changed as well to fit the sf4 engine (which is WORLDS different than sfxt)

  • Musashi234

I’d love it to be Batsu but that’s never going to happen. Itd be hilarious if it was Remy haha.

  • KyoyaHibari

    • KonjikinoSora

You know that something is truly funny when it makes Hibari laugh.

      • NRool

The very idea of Hibari laughing frightens me

  • DCBlackbird

capcom just when you have run out of ideas you have one more idea

  • Natat

Asura is the 5th character. I’m calling it!

  • Judgephoenix

    Evil Dan Hibiki….. no im kidding don’t let that happen >.>;

  • Tincho D

    Sakura = Capcom
    Dan = The consumer

    • Ni

it’s bad but good at the same time.
I’m more interested to see the balance changes than the new characters (nothing will make me stop having Juri as my main)

    • Tee Niitris

I’m not a big fan of Capcom bashing, but that was funny.

    • epy

…I’m a little bit jelous of Dan… just a little bit.

    • Sardorim

Ugh… Hate Sakura x Dan. He’s her master and like a big father/father figure to her. That she made it clear in SFIV that she’s in love with Ryu whose oblivious to such things as he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.

  • Crazy_O

Remember the character poll capcom held? I really want Ingrid in the game, she only appeared in some PSP Street Fighter game, so it’s still possible they mean her? Right?

  • Fidelis

I honestly think that secret fifth will be a darkstalkers character to raise awareness for/ tease that upcoming release they keep hinting at every 2 years

  • Ni

    Hyper Street Fighter IV.

They’re just gonna be reusing SFxTK characters anyway, I was already expecting this since thay said that SFxTK was running on a modified SF4 engine. And the fifth new character probably is going to be Asura

  • darkfox1

    Asura for fifth character

  • ign0z

Here’s hoping they add a Gallery Mode in this update.

  • ssj3gokou24

So step one, make svensson quit. Step two, release a game that updated last yr, take 4 characters out of another game that came out last yr and put them in it, then charge the same price for the updated game that had already came out, then, add a 5th character who’s already been in one of your fighters but we know it won’t be a power stone fighter.

Good ‘Ol capcom…….you had me at “bend over”.

    • Pinwheel

Nobody is bending you over. You’re aware you don’t have to buy this, yes? The FGC craves updates for their most played games, even if this is just porting characters over from another, this is a big deal and change to the meta. We LOVE that. We ask for it all the time.

It’s exactly like when UMVC3 was released, people had to moan and complain about a new update. Now awhile after its release, everybody REALLY wants an update with DLC characters.

So, tell me. How is getting more content – REGARDLESS of what said content is or how easy it is to add – a bad thing if the majority of its fanbase wants it?

      • ssj3gokou24

the majority of it’s fanbase clearly have this thing we call “disposable income”. i mean you’re buying this game for the 3rd time , i think. you can’t be serious about this can you? and the case with ultimate is seeing how that game is broken, yea, i’d want an update to. cause vergil having a full screen hit box is considered “balanced”.

        • Kaihedgie

The DLC is 15 dollars if you already have it. $15 for four characters from another game plus an entirely new one, new stages and new supers/Ultras. You’re really not in a position to complain here.

        • Pinwheel

Marvel is still playable, even with Vergil. Even if it’s pretty unbalanced, you can still just be good enough to still outplay those people. Watch KaneBlueRiver.

        • Ni

marvel is meant to be broken

      • Guest

So the FGC are craving for updates huh? Wow those swearing hardcore dummies… They are like cavemen whose only one goal is to be the very best…
I laugh at their inferiority and their brutal lifestyle. Those types of people tsk tsk tsk

    • Guest

Sven quitting is good that lying conniving bastard deserves it anyway.
LOL at least it’s not UMVC3 I would go crazy if they did but if they did right then I let them pass. 5th character might be Bad Box Art Megaman again…

    • Dhruv Rajyagor

If Capcom makes a power stone character the 5th character, then we know one of two things: 1) a miracle has happened and capcom are really changing, or 2) it comes at deep cost.

  • Uso Ewin

A penny bet on Haggar as the fifth,

    • Repede91

  • Kaihedgie

And as usual, people being silly biting the hand that feeds.

Seriously, Capcom actually goes and brings a much requested and hefty update to a game that’s still going strong after several years at a very cheap price for those still playin’ and the only thing you people are capable of is whining?

  • I would complain about Capcom continuing to shamelessly beat the Street Fighter horse, but… the promise of ass-slamming friends into oblivion with Hugo is just too delicious to ignore.

  • SlickRoach

They’re really stretching this thing as far as it can go aren’t they? But if they add Q in the next 3 or 4 renditions of SSFIV I just may have to pick it up. Either him or Ingrid would definitely spark my interest.

  • ReidHershel

The character better be someone who fits, and not someone who is completely random like Asura or the girl from Remember Me.

    • But Asura isn’t random. Then again, all of this is sounding like the new character will become part of the Street Fighter Canon, and will not be some meager one-shot guest character.

      • ReidHershel

If it’s Batsu, I’ll cream happiness.

    • Hunts Rattata

Asura’s not random; Ryu and Akuma crossed over to his game before. Part of his fight against Ryu was even done in a slightly modified SF4 fighting system.

      • Dhruv Rajyagor

knowing Capcom, they’d probably have Asura as the 5th character just because of his character model and artwork already made for Asura’s Wrath Lost Episodes DLC in which he fought Ryu and Akuma.

  • Kalis Konig

Copy and paste from another title = profit. Sounds like pretty much every fighting game Capcom has ever made so not surprised.

    • More like cut, paste and new stuff tossed in. The idea is that Capcom doesn’t know how to update their games without making each one sound like a radically different game.

    • Dynami

Because as we all know, the fine people at ArcSys and Namco never recycle assets…

      • Kalis Konig

        Never sid they didnt

        • Kaihedgie

You did single them out though. That’s the general attitude of every Capcom thread for the past few years: everyone is terrific EXCEPT Capcom.

          • DriftSlave

Thats pretty much the mentality that everyone has for Capcom these days…its like because they didn’t ask for it they neglect the idea that someone else did….*smh* gamers will bitch about options now….

          • Kaihedgie

And the saying echoes once more: Damned if they do, damned if they don’t

          • Kalis Konig

This is an article about a cap com game. Of course I singled them out.

          • Kalis Konig

And honestly I never said anything bad about them just pointed out I’m not surprised at this move coming from cap com. Your fanboyism just put you and others on the defensive

          • Kaihedgie

No, I just don’t like “gamers” complaining about reasonable options and constantly giving their undivided attention to things they clearly don’t like. Not everyone who defends Capcom is a fanboy. Some people just call out bullcrap when they see it.

If you don’t like it, don’t pay it any mind.

          • Kalis Konig

And just because you see it as reasonable that means everyone has to? Negative criticism is often more welcome then positive if not on equal grounds. If you don’t like that I feel capcom are copy paste happy (which is pretty much an arguable truth) then simply “don’t pay it any mind.” It being my opinion about Capcom’s fighting games of course. I labeled you as a fanboy due to your overly sensitive reactions and how you constantly make arguments based on things no one has said which made you come off as so. Just stated it was getting tired of this practice when it comes to fighting games. Pretty much every other thing you threw a fit about was in your own head because I never stated half the stuff you are going on about.

    • Hunts Rattata

It’s great for people who liked playing these characters in previous titles, but don’t want to go anywhere near SFxT.

  • Nitraion

Soo the game still not finished?

  • Elvick

I mean, I sort of understand why people complain about this… but at the same time, if you actually look at it rationally it’s a better deal than most give you.

And they could force you to re-buy the game, instead of putting it out as DLC for those who already have the game.

Definitely a great value for anyone that’s never bought the game before.

  • Bec66

I know a lot of people are ragging on Capcom for this ne DLC but look at it this way if you already have the game its 15 dollars for 5 characters that’s less than $2.50 a character plus hasn’t it been a few years since the last SF4 update?

  • DriftSlave

Fighting Game Community: Cool there is a new SFIV update…we can play SFIV for another few years.

Other Gamers: Why is Capcom milking gamers by copy and pasting content? who asked for this? why wont they make SF5? Yadda, Yadda…same ol’ crap.

    FGC: *facepalm*

This is why people talk shit about casual gamers, you guys never learn. The games community(street fighters specifically) asked for additional content and are genuinely grateful for said effort/content. Sure Capcom is no Saint and has done some shady shit before, I’m not saying they will stop either but honestly guys….you really need to stop with the BS. You don’t like SF, fine…you don’t like Capcom, fine….but seriously why the hell are you going out of your way to bash the game…especially those who are largely ignorant on fighting games in general.

Like many people have said already, you don’t like the idea….don’t buy it. No one is forcing you to buy the game, Capcom knows that they are only catering to their core SF fan audience, one thing I can say that not many other companies do or do often….Shout out’s to Harada-san.

    • Abend

Granted i don’t play fighting games/play them seriously but i do play a lot of games and capcom has a really bad habit of not moving on and improving a game by either fixing past issues or adding new features or mechanics they tend to spend a lot of time milking the same shit over and over it even happens with monster hunter i mean monster hunter 4 is what the the 9th game? not counting frontier and its revisions what exactly has changed before monster hunter 4 besides new weapons, bug fixes (hit boxes and balance changes) and new monsters. Well 4 is adding in dragon’s dogma like features but it doesn’t change the fact that this should have probably been done a long ass time ago. I love monster hunter and most fighting games i play but man capcom can be such so lazy sometimes.

    • ragingmerifes

But shouldn’t be non-professional gamers be at least weary of having upgrades for games sold for a high-price? I mean, paid bonus content is better than no content, but people who have to pay for the same games twice per year should at least have the right to criticize the way a company is offering a product, no?

      • DriftSlave

Since when in the hell are you buying the same game twice a year with SFIV? If your talking about Marvel, you need to let that go.

  • “Besiegen!”

  • Tonton Ramos

    My bets is on Karin…

  • Hinataharem

Not a bashing comment, but if you own several Capcom fighting games your HD will be FULL will all of this DLC

    • Corey Owens

      More like:

If you own several Capcom Fighting games, your discs will be FULL with all DLC.

      • Hinataharem

    • Patrick Lucas Honeyman

Like the woman smiling out of your avatar. One very sexy and beautiful Japanese women indeed.

  • Isaac Newton

That’s really a nice addition to the SSF IV but…

Where is my R. Mika where is she!?

    • Göran Isacson

Gotta admit, if R. Mika was the one new addition to this game I would find that, as the kids say, “mad hype”. Ono did say he liked her, so maybe they’re going to go there…

      • I got the Woolie and Matt route and say “the hypest shit”.

  • Ouryu

Some players are saying that Capcom has reach a new level of laziness. Most characters from StXTekken and stage. The fifth character to me is Asura.
Super Street Fighter IV : Recyclage Edition

    • Kaihedgie

We get it, Capcom recycles things. So does everyone else. The joke is dead.

  • Sounds good to me but i’m about that 5th character I mean what if they try to put nilin from remember me in there oh god no

  • ivanchu77

It´s kinda lazy to put the same characters from street fighter vs tekken lol.

But in the other hand i praise capcom for still supporting this game even after all this time instead of letting it die

  • Istillduno

Soo, will the entire console freeze whenever one of Rolento’s knives makes contact with a fireball again this time?

  • To the people complaining about this paid update:

Have you ever played the game and acquired DEEP understanding about the game other than just pressing buttons at random with the occasional hadouken? Have you ever had that amazing standoff while playing an online recording match that ends with your victory on a hairstring?

Why are you guys complaining about this? This DLC is targeted towards those that play and ENJOY the game to the fullest and want to see more characters added.

They’re not going to make a SF5 yet if the system for SF4 still works like a wonder. If they made a SF5 with the exact same mechanics and only really added new characters to the roster and added a few stages, it wouldn’t be a true sequel. It would have to be something entirely different.

I mean, look at the jumps from Street Fighter 2, to Street Fighter 3, to then, Street Fighter 4. They are COMPLETELY different games, but they all had roster and mechanic updates while keeping the otherwise same feel to each game. If they made an entirely new game nowadays to your logic, they’d be charging a full 60 dollars for just adding 5 characters with a few tweaks and everyone would be in an uproar.

What Capcom is doing here is a godsend of having listened to the fighting game community. They took the input to heart to make this update for us. And guess what, we’re going to enjoy the new characters that adds depth to the already amazing game.

Just because you can’t appreciate what they’re doing doesn’t mean that this update is a ripoff. Get over yourselves.

    • Corey Owens

I think it’s more specific to this particular update.

They’re just porting the characters from SFxT into AE. They’re using the least amount of effort possible. (The one additional character being the exception, as far as we know)

Balance updates shouldn’t require payment, ever. That’s on the developer.

What people should see themselves paying for are the new characters, but when they outright say they’re just porting them over, it’s a slap in the face.

That said, I’ll certainly be picking this up.

      • Patrick Lucas Honeyman

Would you rather they don’t bring additional characters over? What about back in the PS1 era when home versions of Capcom fighting game releases were released with additional characters added? Was it wrong of them to do so?

Remember that this $15 charge is an option as well. No obligation to buy and have the update, still enjoy your current version of SF4 at leisure.

        • Corey Owens

If you had actually fully read and comprehended my comment, you’d understand that I am only upset that they would be putting in the least effort, and essentially charging $15 for 1 new character and a balance update, which should be free.

Of course I would like them to bring over more players. Seeing new characters and having a balance update completely changes the game. That’s what fans want every few years to mix things up.

This isn’t the PS1 era. During the PS1 era, we couldn’t have free balance updates online, so they were forced to release new versions. In this era, it is a conscious decision.

It’s optional if you never actually want to play the game with other people. I am a competitive player, so if I wish to continue playing other competitive players, I am forced to buy this update.

          • Kalis Konig

This. It is a rather lazy thing to do regardless of how you spin it.

  • SageShinigami

I’ll give them this: It’s a better deal than what you get as a fan of Injustice. Five characters and if I’m not mistaken SIX new stages, all for $15?

Yeah yeah there’s a $40 disc-based version but that means if you’re new to the game you get a game that’s actually better than Super Street Fighter IV was for $20 less. And if you own the game you’re only paying $15 more. Not a bad deal at all.

    • Kinda feel like I got cheated since I purchased and played the original version of SSF4 a handful of times and only played the Arcade Edition like twice and didn’t care for all the cheapassing a lot of people were doing with Oni and Evil Ryu, and then the placing for characters felt severely off. I would actually like the disc version so I can just skip over getting another download, but I’m probably going to wait awhile since I know I won’t be playing it anytime soon again.

  • Judgephoenix

Personally I think they did SSF4 and AE, right. The only one that was kind of horrible practice on developing was the SF4(1.0) since they had to remake the game so DLC would work properly. Though I take this consideration as well that remember SF4 was gonna be the last SF if it did not sell well. So I was ok when they redid it into Super. Marvel Vs Capcom on the other hand and SFXT yea weird DLC and chessy remakes should not have happened at all on those. We are to far into this Gen to still be doing this. Look at Dragon Dogma….same thing

  • TheHolypopeofgaming

    5th Character is Alex

  • Sardorim

Pass… They’ve milked that game way too much. At this rate we’ll never see a SFV and even if we did why buy it at launch after all this re-release BS they’ve done?

  • MrJechgo

    SWEET ^_^

  • Göran Isacson

Can’t say I’m very salty about this, only bought the vanilla Street Figther 4 when it dropped to play with friends at home and was satisfied with that. This though… might upgrade into this one via retail, just for the heck of it.
