Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl Arrives October 1st

By Ishaan . July 15, 2013 . 9:00am

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl has a release date—Atlus will release the game in North America on October 1st for $40.

Etrian Odyssey Untold’s story is loosely based on that of the very first Etrian Odyssey game. As detailed in our past reports, Etrian Odyssey Untold will have two modes. Story mode will have five predetermined characters, each with their own personalities and backstory.

Meanwhile, in Classic mode, you’ll get to create your own party, just like in previous Etrian Odyssey games. Atlus also got anime studio Madhouse—which is owned by their parent company Index—to create the game’s opening video and story cutscenes.

    Great news to NA!

    Meanwhile, in Europe…

    • Julien_N

Seeing how Atlus and NISA are closer now, and that EO 4 is going to be released in Europe by them, it is possible that EO will be brought over by NISA.

      • MyBodyIsReady

It would be nice if there was less messing about though. I’m sick of the “if’s” and “buts” and having to wait much longer. Gets a bit annoying after a while, I supported Atlus by buying both Persona 4 Golden and Persona 4 Arena new as well..

        • Istillduno

Then you supported their messing around with Europe, of course they are going to think they can get away with it it they keep getting money whilst doing it.

          • MyBodyIsReady

I wanted to support a great Vita game. Vita games need the support

          • Zeik56

Are suggesting not buying the games would actually be more beneficial?

          • SirRichard

I would heartily argue “yes” in regards to Arena, but not so for Golden.

That said, NISA are taking quite a while, and given past precedent and that they initially put EOIV down for Summer (and it has since vanished), it would seem that Atlus are probably jerking the chain again.

          • it seems that EOIV is coming out by the end of August. Unfortunately for Atlus and NIS, I canceled my preorder as…I…no longer feel like I should support NIS with the way they treat their European consumer. It’s just filled with delay and lack of interesting games. Well at least they release the best game ever, Time and Eternity *sarcasm*

          • Istillduno

When it comes to the region locked ones, yes, yes I am.

They took a console which is entirely region free and made the only bloody region locked game to ever darken it’s doorstep.

            That **** ain’t welcome.

      • Ano722

NISA still haven’t resumed their PSN services for Scandinavia and the other affected parts of Northern Europe, right?

I can’t say I have been as supportive or trusting of NISA since. They dropped their support right out of the blue, in the middle of their release schedule. Without so much as an official explanation as to why when it was dropped.

But no matter the case, it gives me the impression that they either aren’t that good at publishing stuff in Europe, or they simply don’t care all that much about Europe. Neither case of which sounds promising.

        • Julien_N

I have no idea about what is going on with the Scandinavian PSN, as I am from Western Europe and do not have a PS3 or a PSP as of now, but as far as I know, they are not a lot of reliable alternatives to get Atlus games in Europe.
I guess you could create a PSN account with an other country in its settings, to try to circumvent the issue, but it might be problematic for you, I don’t know.

  • ChiffonCake

I like how they managed to get the english logo to look just as beautiful as the japanese one.

    • GibbRS

      Agreed, ’tis a beautiful cover.

  • Anna Scruton

I might have to pick this one up later on. Pokemon will be demanding all my money and attention in October.

    • James M Wallace

But can’t you put Pokemon aside? Pokemon X & Y isn’t going away, unlike the physical version of EOU…

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

I went to plot this in my yearly budget, then learned that I already had it scheduled for October. #WTF, #HashtagsAreDumb

  • Smooosh

Do you still have to draw the maps while playing the story-mode? :o
I love good dungeoncrawlers, but the need to do the maps yourself in the previous games wasn’t exactly to my liking.
I know it’s one of the things the series is known for, and I can understand why people would like that feature, but I’m just asking since this entry is so different.

    • MikeTxn

I think there’s an option where the game draws the walls for you.

    • Shane Guidaboni

The game will color tiles for you as you go. Not sure if it will draw the lines. However, mapping is completely optional, though it’s to your benefit. Personally, I think mapping is part of the fun.

      • Smooosh

        Thanks you two. :)

  • Antixono

Ooh,was gonna get 4 but held out for this one since it had a story. Can’t wait!

    • MikeTxn

      Common misconception.

The story is presented in, mostly, the same way as in every other RPG (talk with the NPCs, events on the map, talks after beating a boss or something). Since you create your own party instead of having fixed ones it’s obvious that it will lack certain interactions like the standard RPG, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a story.

      • Antixono

I knew that already(I do research before i get into something, most of the time) but lemme rephrase my statement:Ooh,was gonna get 4 but held out for this since it has more focus on the story than the other previous games. Can’t wait.

      • AkuLord3

Nice to see someone getting that, tired of seeing people think these games don’t have story because….it doesn’t have other rpg game events

  • British_Otaku

I dabbled with the demo of EO4 and this, perhaps it’s because of nostalgia for the old tracks and locations with voice acting, with predefined characters and some new layouts (at least the first floor felt quite different). I’m more excited for this one.

Hopefully, we’ll get one of the two here someday. Summer 2013 for EO4… >_>

  • Raltrios

    My wallet can’t handle this…

    • Zeik56

Seriously. Normally I’d probably be all over this game, but with everything else coming out/has just come out, I just can’t afford them all. I’ll come back around to it eventually, but I feel kinda bad for having to bypass it because there’s a deluge of great games coming out that have sucked my wallet dry.

    • DyLaN

Its a ploy frm game dev to suck your cash out of your wallet :P

    • Kamakuma

Seriously! Its like this year all the good companies got together at a meeting and were like.

“RELEASE THEM ALL IN THIS TIMEFRAME! Their wallets won’t know what hit them!”

*cue batman and robin kicking in the window saying they want in on the cut.*

  • DanteJones

Man, I needed this game since yesterday!

  • Tch…and that’s right around the time Disgaea D2 comes out.

    My poor backlog…

    • GibbRS

      Disgaea D2 isn’t handheld….. yet. :P

Play Disgaea D2 at home. Play EOU on your work/school lunch break, and when waiting for an oil change.

      • Except my circumstance wouldn’t allow for any of that on a handheld, unfortunately. I get more game time on the couch with my handheld than anywhere else, really.

  • Erikdayo

I’ve been meaning to try EOIV but have yet to find the time. This new one sounds even more appealing to me so I may just wait for this one. I like having characters with back stories and personality. :)

    • AkuLord3

idk maybe make up back stories and personality for your characters in EO4…you know use your IMAGINATION~~~

      • Erikdayo

Thanks for the down vote. Very sorry for being more interested in the new game. I may still try EOIV whenever I find the time, but I still need to play the demo first to see if it’s even something I would be into. Plus I’ve got to finish up Fire Emblem: Awakening and play Shin Megami Tensei IV (starting tomorrow). :)

      • DyLaN

I prefer to have characters tht come with backstory, personality and character development. Tht not to say it isn’t interesting to make up their own story though. In fact its kinda perfect for those narrative LPs.

        • MikeTxn

Just curious, are you following the Etrian 1 LP on Something Awful?

          • DyLaN

  • Javen

been so backlogged with games I never got around to EO4, may just wait for this one, sounds great

  • mojack411

I picked up EO4 when it was on sale in the e-shop and absolutely love it! This is an instant pre-order for me now.

  • Shane Guidaboni

So happy they kept that box art.

  • Eric

I’m really interested in how the story will play out for classic mode. Without the preset characters playing their respective roles, it seems like there’d have to be some really heavy editing. I mean I don’t think they’d completely axe the story in classic; would they?

    • Zeik56

The story relatively barebones in the original EO. I wouldn’t be surprised if they mostly just copied that for classic mode.

Or they could just write around it and say your characters are just the adventurer’s that are along for the ride with the main story characters. The former would be better though.

      • Eric

Ah, didn’t think of that. Yeah, I’d prefer the former as well.

    Dude not in Europe ._.
Next time type where it comes in the title…… please….

    • It is obvious.

      • JMaster3000

        Don’t crush my dreams T__T

  • Winning! Seriously Atlus is baws as hell.

  • celery

Gonna have to speed through this to finish before Pokemon X gets released.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Can’t say this enough, I’m glad they kept classic mode and remembered the fans who’ve helped bring the series this far.

  • brian

Who else noticed that Atlus has it pegged on their website for 10th?

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

My muney.T_T I am really feeling the pain in my wallet here.(Not to mention, Shin Megami Tensei 4 is also coming next month.T_T)

  • James M Wallace

I was expecting this to come out slightly sooner (I don’t know why I expected it in August), but that’s fine as I have more time to find work and prepare. Can’t wait!

*Personal note: need to finish EOIV and or EOI before release.
