Chronos Materia Lets You Create Homunculi To Do Your Dirty Work

By Sunjun . July 16, 2013 . 1:50pm

Chronos Materia is an RPG for the PlayStation Vita from Atelier series¬†developer Gust. The story is centered around a group of children who who find themselves in a mysterious world void of human civilization. We’ve¬†already introduced the heroes of the game, but now we have info on another main character.

Licorice is a cheerful and positive girl who dislikes being sad. On the surface, she seems utterly optimistic, but deep down, she’s a harsh realist. She tends to meddle in other people’s business and can see through their facades.

Like the Atelier series, Chronos Materia allows the player to hunt for ingredients and synthesize items. Along with items, you can create homunculi to perform jobs such as collecting ingredients, exploring dungeons, or synthesizing more items. Homunculi come in eight different classes with different character designs. Just like the main characters, they can fight enemies and level up.

    Yay! Fluffy girls!

    • TheExile285

      Yay indeed.

    • Kai2591

lol I was gonna say that as well ;)

  • TheExile285

Lol, there is one male class and he looks Sterk-ish. Battle maiden looks badass. Wonder what her skills are like.

    Temco better bring this over…

    • Leon_Tekashi

I have a feeling that it will.

  • PlayLife

    ahhhhhhh the cuteness.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Those outfits aren’t NEARLY as revealing enough. J-Just kidding.
A little disappointed that its dungeon-crawler interface is how you’ll be doing battles given Gust’s excellent sprite work but I’m still hype.

    • puchinri

      This is Gust, not CH. ouo;

  • brian

    “dislikes being sad”
    I thought everyone disliked that.
Hnnnggg, this art style is adorable.

  • Delicious Shrine Maiden…

  • The concept of the game sounds fantastic almost like an old book, the characters however sound incredibly generic.
As for the classes im only really interested in witch and battle maiden, i sure wish they tried to be a little more risky with male classes, i usually play as girl classes in these types of games but thats mainly because male classes are not appealing.
As for the homunculi if its as easy and open as meruru’s i’ll be quite pleased

  • Lazulis

So uh…can the guys only be swordsmen or…? On a side note, the game looks pretty but the story is meh for me rn

  • Sentsuizan_93

That artwork looks so damn pretty. I want to see what the gameplay would be like. From the first screen, it looks like a dungeon crawler. Maybe i’ll wait for more info before jumping to conclusions…

  • puchinri

Guh~! I’m loving it so much. I like those designs and how cute everything is. I like the addition of the homunculi as well.

  • Whoa, it’s not too often you can CREATE FULL-BLOWN PEOPLE in a Gust game. And when you can, it actually usually ends poorly. I’ll be interested to see just how the plot of this plays out.

  • lozffvii

I wanna make a star hymnist in real life and make her my daughter.
    She’s just so damn cute.
Also, the saint kinda looks like Reimu.

  • ReidHershel

This game looks beautiful, I want it.

  • Anime10121

Damn, cuteness overload! I want this! Regardless of its Dungeon crawler roots, if I can buy Time and Eternity, I can get this.

  • Katboy

    ahhh..the the outfits – no pedo! :3

  • fyi1191

Now I just gotta name the Battle Maiden as Linca, and the Swordsman as Sterk.

  • Dokuro

    Looks awesome!

  • ShadowDivz

Usually when i create artificial girls it’s for a totally different reason…
Meh, variety is the spice of life.
Seriously though, so far the game looks aight.

  • Keine

    will it be localised??

  • Shady Shariest

    Homunculi that…Look like people!?
What is this FMAliriar feeling i have…

    • Anime10121

Well Homunculi ARE basically people created with alchemy, so for the most part (barring failed homunculus) they generally look human.

      • Shady Shariest

Ehh… I seem to have missed all the others that do it :)
All other Homunculi i remember seeing have been just…Goop…
Edit: Or someone getting confused about homunculi and Chimera’s :P Yayyyy Finland…

        • Anime10121

By definition a homunculous is a recreation of a human being or parts of a human being. The “goop” that you see in other works, are merely failed products.

A chimera is the mixing together of two different animals. Like a dragon with a lions head or something.

          • Shady Shariest

I know :) I just see less successful homunculi more often than success’s :)

    • DyLaN

      *ahem*Fate/ series*ahem*

      • Shady Shariest

        *Ahem*Haven’t/ played*Ahem* :)
It was just about me getting FMA-vibes from Homunculi :)
Been in a dare withdrawal since the series(‘s) ended :(

  • Kai2591

“group of children” instead of “girls” this time.
    Much more accurate haha.

  • Notquitesure?

Looks bloody awesome, art looks great, can’t wait.

  • Aristides

This game keeps looking better and better, can’t wait for a localization announcement! I would however like to see the battle system… is it turn based?

  • XiaomuArisu

    Battle Maiden!
    ….no,the Shrine Maiden!
    ….or both?

  • Alister Izumi

they all look like miku well the ones with green hair.
