Klavier Gavin Is His Old Eccentric Self In Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

By Sato . July 22, 2013 . 3:40pm

In the previous episode of Capcom’s character introduction video series, we got a look at how Apollo Justice will be returning as a more mature man in Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. The fourth episode features two returning Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney characters in the Wright Anything Agency’s magician, Trucy Wright, and the rock star prosecutor Klavier Gavin.

Trucy Wright, the adopted child of Phoenix Wright, originally made her debut in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, as a talented magician who held performances to make money. In Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, she’ll be spending a lot of time at the Wright Anything Agency, where she’ll be waiting to talk to you in between cases.

Scenario director Takeshi Yamazaki also mentions that although he can’t share too much for now, she’ll have a bigger role in the game and will have her own scenario, where she will be seen participating in the action.

Those of you who’ve played Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney may also remember Apollo’s rival, Klavier Gavin, and his signature air guitar gestures. The cool, smug prosecutor will be returning once again in Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, where he’ll be seen in another rocking match-up against Apollo in court.

Klavier, who displayed a plethora of expressive animations in his debut game won’t be changing in the upcoming installment. Capcom have made it their goal to keep him true to his usual self, and have even arranged special animations focusing on the 3D features, which Yamazaki feels is perfectly fitting for his character.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is slated for release on July 25th in Japan and this Fall in the West on Nintendo 3DS.

Ahhhh Trucy… Really liked her in AJ, looking forward to see more of her. :)
Klavier on the other hand… eh, he was okay. :|

  • Silent-Hal

Will Trucy’s scenario have anything to do with her and Apollo’s backstory? It’s a pretty big loose end that I’d expect them to address at some point.

Klavier… eh, I thought he was kind of boring. Easily the least interesting of the rival prosecutors so far.

    • Aoshi00

Yeah, it wasn’t Klavier was bad, but compared to the past prosecutors, Edgeworth, Franziska, Godot, he just wasn’t that interesting, I even liked Kristoph better, he was more evil :) Nor was he as comical as Winston Payne.. And now we have Simon Blackquill who’s cool and mysterious like Godot. Even in Investigations 2, the female judge was a great antagonist to Edgeworth too. so I thought Klavier was a bit bland..

Still, there are so many old characters everyone’s bound to find someone they like, except poor Gumshoe.. but he was in 2 Investigations games.. still want to see how he’s turned out though like everyone else.. can’t wait to play this!

      • Silent-Hal

What bugged me about Klavier was that, unlike all the other major prosecutors (Edgeworth, Franziska, Godot), he never goes through any kind of an arc. He’s still in exactly the same place at the end of AJ as he was at the start, even though his brother is essentially the villain of that game.

  • tubers

    Mhmmm… that “waki” shot :)

  • Herok♞

The game comes out in 3 days I hope everything doesn’t get spoiled and we can get a release date and price soon for the west.

    • Aoshi00

I think it should be $40 like regular games, unless Nintendo gives us a discount for d/l only, or some incentive e-shop credit. I alrdy have $30 from SMT/FE in my account ready :) Thankfully these interviews just give us an overview w/o much spoilers, very big tease though.

      • Herok♞

Svensson did say he was trying to something a little different, with the game since it was digital only, so I am guessing some kind of a discount if his work carrys over to the next guy.
        Edit changed Killain to Svensson

        • Zeik56

I thought it was Svensson who said that. Although I just found out he’s gone now too, so I guess it’s a moot point.

But yeah, assuming that statement is still accurate I’m expecting $30.

        • Aoshi00

It would be great if it’s indeed cheaper, like $5-10 less (since I’m importing and double dipping too).. If it’s a cartridge, I could play it on 2 systems since I have a regular and XL.. regular 3DS has louder speaker but XL has bigger screen.. the demo looks great on a regular 3DS though

          • Herok♞

I know do wish it was Physical but I say its better then nothing.

  • Sweet Sui ♥

    I’m guilty… of loving Herr Klavier Gavin~ :3
I can’t wait to see him again in this game ^o^ lol.

    • linkenski

Not a big fan of him, though I’ll admit I can’t wait to hear his air-guitar soloing remastered :D

    • Aoshi00

Everyone’s 3D animation is just so interesting and fun to watch, the defendant and the witness.. I thought Catherine and Naruto had some of the best looking cel shaded graphics, but this is a revolutionary transition for the AA series too.. the 3D look so close to the 2D sprite counterpart yet have layers and pop out.. and the zooming of courtroom, makes the interaction more dynamic.

  • AuraGuyChris

    Air guitar in 3D!

  • AverageGamers

Glad to see Klavier back for continuity sake in this game…
Aah, now I want to replay Apollo Justice once again… XD

  • celery

    Gavin <333 So glad you're back! ^u^

When I saw the first screenshots with him I was so surprised that they weren't 2D! They didn't look 3D from far away, lol. I think Gavin's model shows how impressive the 3D graphics are for this game <3 I can't wait to see his animations!

  • Lusankya

I am so glad to read that Trucy will still be important for the plot. She’s most likely not a playable character (already have three of those anyway), so I guess her scenario will include her as the active sidekick in case 4 or 5.

  • Aquarius

Klavier… such an uninteresting character. Now, where’s Franziska? Or may I pray for a miracle… Godot?

    • Mythril

Isn’t Godot also in jail for murder? Hey maybe Godot is Simon Blackquill’s cellmate in jail. :D

  • Lisa Fraulein

Klavier is one of my fav character in Apollo Justice. I love his foppish and almost flamboyant manner, but I hope what they mean by “won’t be changing” doesn’t mean that Klavier won’t be affected at all by his brother AND his friend/band-mate’s action. I mean, it would be a pity, because those are such a big potential-trigger for Klavier to have a deeper character and perhaps become as lovable as other prosecutors.

  • Sardorim

Watch Klavier mistake Athena as Apollo’s girlfriend and try many misguided attempts to “steal” her from an oblivious Apollo and confused Athena.

  • Neppygear

Klavier still got it going on in a serious way. Good.

  • Yay! I’m glad to see him making an appearance!
