GameStop And EB Games Giving Away Shiny Legendary Pokémon

By Ishaan . July 29, 2013 . 9:00am

Starting next month, certain GameStop stores in the U.S. are hosting a Shiny Pokémon distribution for Pokémon Black/White and Black 2/White 2. As part of the event, three extremely rare Shiny legendary Pokémon will be distributed to players that show up with any of the four above games—Dialga, Palkia and Giratina.

Here are the timings for when you’ll be able to grab each Shiny legendary:

  • Shiny Dialga: Monday, August 19th – Sunday, September 8th

  • Shiny Palkia: Monday, September 9th – Sunday, September 29th

  • Shiny Giratina: Monday, September 30th – Sunday, October 20th

And here are the timings for Canada, where EB Games will handle distribution:

  • Shiny Dialga: Friday, August 30th

  • Shiny Palkia: Friday, September 13th

  • Shiny Giratina: Friday, September 27th

The Pokémon Company say that the distribution event is being held in celebration of the upcoming launches of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on October 12th.

They are only going to be distributed for one day in Canada? That seems odd.

    • konsama

At least they are getting a chance to get them, i wonder if gameplanet will host this event in mexico…

  • Simon

gotta bring the 2 games and hoard all 6 shiny pokemon!

    • Grape Monet

Bringing all 4 games to this one. Yes, I am THAT guy.

  • JustThisOne

Meeeh. Shinies are great and all, but I don’t really like legendaries. :3

  • Eric Harris

Will you beable to SR to get the nature/IVs you want on these? If so I might go for it.

  • Ben Sylvia

Woo! 3 Shiny Giratina for me!

Screw Dialga and Palkia. Don’t even look like dragons.

  • andref

    Kind of fun

  • King mogz

So much for being rare lol. There’s gonna be THOUSANDS of each now XD

    • J_Joestar

as if there aren’t already hundreds of thousands around already thanks to Pokegens and RNGs and whatnots.

  • AuraGuyChris

Now a Shiny Mewtwo will be even rarer by comparison.

  • Kristina Shatz

“Certain GameStop stores…” <–How do we find out which ones those are?

  • Edzo04

i despise going to gamestop but i suppose downloading pokemon from the parking lot without leaving my car isn’t much of a problem

    • ShadowDivz

Go in the store like a real man.

      • Haseyo

He must send a message across that he does not like GS!
Quite frankly I feel as if walking in just to get the DL is more of a kick in the nads.

“THOUGHT I was going to buy something. Deuces!”

        • ShadowDivz

That’s actually what i do. xD

      • Vash bane

my GS is quite new so I go in trying to do the event and they all look at each other stupid… im like seriously? you guys don’t know you “suppose” to host it not me XD

then after we finish they cut it off :/ wth? lol

  • ShadowDivz

I remember the last time i went to DL a pokemon from a Ebgames. I was worried about the cashier laughing at me or something, but i just said “you know what? i fucking love pokemon and i grew up with it.”

Long story short, she also liked pokemon and i got a free 3DS skin for a 3DS i don’t have.

Morale of the story:Face your fears.

  • komiko12

I would really like to see Giratina in 3D. That thing looks so boss, especially in Origin Forme.

    • deadMastershiro

Ha Ha! Read to fast and thought you said gintama.

      • John Aguirre

Not kidding, I read the same damn thing.

Look, I get that not everyone has accessible Wi-Fi around them to get a distribution restricted to only it, but why in this day and age do you choose to force people to go to a physical location just to get a distribution? Why can’t you run them in-store and on Wi-Fi simultaneously? (And, in this scenario, at least the people who don’t have the option of Wi-Fi can still have an alternative option, should they be fine with it.)

Seriously, it can’t be that difficult to make it so that you can’t get multiples on the same cartridge by using both venues. As it stands, you’re punishing people who have reliable Wi-Fi and can’t reliably drive long distances to go to a fucking GameStop just to spend five minutes to download what amounts to an unlock code. (Or don’t have the time to waste to go to a GameStop when they could turn their DS/3DS on and download the event from home while they multitask and do something else.) You’re also punishing the people that don’t have Wi-Fi and also can’t reliably go to a GameStop too, but I can’t really make a case there. They either have to deal with not getting them or take a drive to where they can get the distribution (applies to Wi-Fi too).

It’s almost as if Nintendo is trying to restrict just how many unlock codes they send out. Get with the times, Big N. :/

(And don’t give me the “Oh, they just want to try and drive up preorders for X and Y by making people go to GameStop” BS. The people that are hardcore Pokemon players already have it preordered, and while I can imagine that they’ll get some boost (especially from younger players that might attempt to coerce their parents to drop for a preorder), I would honestly think a shift in online infrastructure mentality would foster more hope in the community that X and Y will be worth preordering than the off chance of a distribution event at a brick and mortar store.)

    • LaserVision

Long post but for the most part, I agree. I understand the point of events was to gather people together but it’s 2013 now not 1999. Personally I think it’d be more efficient to have monthly or bi-weekly Wi-Fi events like DQ9, because right now what they’re doing is just having a handful of events every year and then they announce the new game.

    • J_Joestar

Not that i disagree, but it is pretty obvious that they just want you to head to said brick’n’mortar store on the off chance you’ll end up spending more money.
Think of it less of just pre-ordering Pokemon X/Y and more of Nintendo trying to improve relations with GS/EB by encouraging their fans to go to GS/EB locations.

      • Vash bane

i still cant decide which one to get lol but ill make my choice when this starts

  • Ric Vazquez

Really, a Shiny Dialga distributed on August 19, my birthday?!
