Yes, Tekken X Street Fighter Is Still In Development

It’s been about three years since Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced Tekken X Street Fighter. Five Tekken games have been released since the original announcement – Tekken Hybrid, Tekken 3D: Prime Edition, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Tekken Card Tournament, and Tekken Revolution.

What’s going on with Tekken X Street Fighter?

“We will say first off that the game is still in development, so you don’t need to worry about that. There are several reasons why we haven’t released any updates. One of the reasons is, Street Fighter X Tekken was released. That still had updates until recently. One interesting thing we’ve seen with that title when it came out was that it’s not quite what we expected,” Harada said speaking to Siliconera.

“It was not just Tekken fans and Street Fighter fans merging, there seems to be a whole new community growing around that title that wasn’t playing either of the titles up until that point. That was very unexpected, but quite cool. It’s something we want to take care and grow. Rather than throw out our title right away while those people are still interested in [Street Fighter X Tekken] we are looking for the right time because we are still developing [Tekken X Street Fighter].”

In an earlier interview with Siliconera, Harada explained Tekken X Street Fighter will use Tekken’s Limb system which has buttons for right foot and left fist instead of fierce or strong attacks. Harada also told Siliconera the game will be more Tekken-like and Ryu would have more close up techniques, but still have his fireballs. I asked Harada if he could give us more details about the gameplay and if the roster has been decided.

“We are making progress, but everything is secret so we can’t say anything about that,” Harada laughed.

          … Adorable.

… anyway, i’m kinda in between. On and off it comes to mind.

… when there is mention of anything regarding Tekken… the game comes to mind… but I just as easily forget about it again when i’m checking other things out.

me too. glad it’s not cancelled.

    • dragoon_slayer12

Me and a few friends skipped SFxT waiting for this. HHere’s hoping for a vita version with cross play

  • WyattEpp

Street Fighter X Tekken was a killer album.

…it was just an album, right?

    • Musashi234

      I wish lol.

  • videoman190

This game will be 10 times better than Street Fighter X Tekken

    • whatinthewolrd

I doubt it… the problem with Street Fighter x Tekken was the Tekken element they added… and the gem system of course. But mainly the Tekken thing. I bet they will add a Street Fighter element that will defeat the purpose of the Tekken style.

      • Tyler Beale

Well, the game is supposed to be based on Tekken Tag 2 (which I never played, BUT WANT TO, despite me having played T6 PSP and TR).

        • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

I recently picked up TTT2. Boy, those guys online are murderers.

          • Tyler Beale

Either 1. Change the search criteria to match your skill level if possible, or 2. Download Tekken Revolution and play that online. (it’s essentially a gimped version of Tag 2)

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

I’m no stranger to Tekken games. I started off with 3. I own both Revolution and TTT2. I’m just not as good as I’d like to be, lol

        • Ronldbx6

I think Tag 2 is like $20 bucks now. Definite pick up for you.

          • Tyler Beale

I’d much rather have the digital copy (so I won’t have to swap it with Tales of Xillia or Time and Eternity), sadly… I hope PS+ members get it free this month.

Otherwise, I’ll just trade shit in (even though I only have Neptunia Victory, Agarest 2, Time and Eternity, Soulcalibur V, and Persona 4 ARENA on disc (and soon, Tales of Xillia), everything else is digital) and hope that I’ll get enough money for it.

        • Shady Shariest

I saw “We are Tekken” -editions being sold at 20€ in supermarkets, go for it. It’s an amazing game :)

          • Tyler Beale

            Unfortunately, I don’t live in the EU….though it’s damn awesome. Boo…

          • Shady Shariest

Bfaff… Game wise, living in the “Gray-Zone” of EU isn’t exactly that delicious :/

          • Tyler Beale

I meant the We Are Tekken edition that’s awesome, not EU itself.

          • Shady Shariest

Yup. Honestly it was a retailer, trying to get rid of the stock :3

    • Guest

You better hope, I wouldn’t give it such a high expectation so that you won’t be dissapointed but I honestly can’t see it coming together.

    • ScytheX3

lol 10x better than that piece of garbage isnt much better =p

      • zaidandzhadow

Whi the fuck is downvoting you???

        • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

People who didn’t think the game was garbage obviously.

          • Dhruv Rajyagor

To be fairly honest, I’m pretty sure people hate it mainly because of the on-disc DLC problem. The gems were pretty useless, but aside from that it’s pretty fun post-update. Thankfully Namco doesn’t do that.

          • Slayven19

And this as well, sf x tk wasn’t that bad of a game. In fact before the gems(and especially the DLC thing) the game was extra hype. The gems were the first thing that killed the momentum.

          • Slayven19

            This

    • zaidandzhadow

Anything will be 10 times better than SFXT

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      100 times better

      • Fidelis

        100 x 0 = 0

        • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

          C’mon, it wasn’t that bad.

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

            kinda felt soulless

          • Fidelis

I just wanted to make that joke. It was an alright game, and I greatly enjoyed playing with modded skins.
            http://imgur.com/fqC9Q8R

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

Wow… gotta admit, that’s pretty badass.

          • Linhua

… is that Ken with a Dante Skin…?

          • Fidelis

            It certainly is!
Same voice actor = No need to suspend disbelief!

          • Linhua

            … WOW… seriously…?

… I had NO idea and would NEVER have thought Ken and Dante to share voice actors.

… kinda makes some sense though.

          • zaidandzhadow

that’s the only good thing and that’s because it was released on PC, like any game that’s on PC it has shit tons of mods

    • tarbis

I know this has been overused to death. But, it’ll be over 9000 times better.

  • CirnoTheStrongest

This is the game I wanted anyway. Steet fighter x Tekken was the one I really didn’t care to have. I’ve always been excited to see how the Streetfighter cast would handle in a Tekken environment!

    • pimpalicious

There is the Street Fighter EXE series so 3D isn’t completely new to SF but I agree with you.

      • Hunts Rattata

Yeah, but there wasn’t dedicated 3D movement like sidestepping or 8-way run, just special moves that made use of the extra plane of movement.

        • pimpalicious

Ah OK it’s been a long time since I played EXE. lol

        • Kaitsu

Well, in that case. Rival Schools fits perfectly as a 3D movement Street Fighter. A series I wished Capcom continued. :c

      • RazeXI

i just really hope it doesn’t end up being like exe, please no skullamania : <

        • tarbis

          I prefer Shadow Geist.

  • Luis Camargo

I really liked SFxTK. And it got even better after the 2013 patch.
    It was a great game.

The only thing horrible about the game was Capcom whole strategy with DLC. The game could have longer legs with the fighting game community.

    • TheHolypopeofgaming

I had the 360 version for a while I bought it real cheap due to the DLC and Honestly even after the patch I felt like it was a more a half assed cash in than a true VS game. I have a PS3 now and even with the more complete roster, I’m not so sure I’m going to rebuy it.

NOW Tekken X Street Fighter. Depending on what it comes out for I’ll get it.

    • Ty Austin

Agreed, the whole drama behind the dlc and gems is what killed the hype. The game has a lot going for it and is very unique in play style.

People are still playing it in tournaments, so that’s a good sign…

      • Ronldbx6

Tekken X Street fighter: all characters available from the start and DLC is FREE. Lets hope the keep it like they did Tag 2.

        • Istillduno

Personally I would rather them just do away with the DLC altogether, even the free DLC in TTT2 was just unlocking characters on the disk from the start, might as well have just not locked them in the first place.

          • Slayven19

But they can’t do away with it, do you know that companies like gamestop and the like force DLC on them if they want their game carried? Why do you think all companies now have some sort of pre-order bonus if its DLC enabled.

          • Istillduno

Well over here in England our one gamestore chain which pulled this at the time was dieing on it’s arse and going into administration a year or so ago whilst the games publishers were still doing fine, gotta question if games companies are anywhere near reliant enough on these games stores to have their hand forced into doing something they don’t want to do with their games by them.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I wonder how are they going to handle all projectile moves. The few ones I remember from Tekken were OP

    • ndjn3979

All projectile moves in Tekken are easily dodged. In fact, if one gets hit by them, one only has oneself to blame.

      • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

I find this funny because I fought a few Lazuya’s in TR.

(Lazuya as in Devil Kazuya spamming lasers)

        • ndjn3979

You can duck laser on reaction.

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

I do now, and SS on the aerial ones, but before then…

            *shudders*

    • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

      side step :D

  • Ronldbx6

I’m really hoping that we don’t give the game such a high expectation that it flops but it’s really hard trying to picture this coming together; I mean, Street Fighter characters in Tekken’s universe for the first time. I’m a Tekken fan but I’m feeling a little bit iffy about this one. I guess all we can do is just wait and see :)

  • Bobby Jennings

I wanted to see how this was doing. Looks like I got what I wanted. Glad to hear that the game’s still in development.

  • AuraGuyChris

Will it include box art Mega Man?

    • Gemlit

      It might include regular Megaman!

      • Chaos_Knight

No, he’s already in Smash Bros. What we need is X in a fighting game like NOW.

        • Gemlit

It would be cool to have BOTH.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      no

  • Sardorim

    Will Sakura be in this?

    • sakusakusakura_nyo

      I hope so!

      • Sardorim

It just seems natural that where Ryu is at Sakura is right there with him at his side or close behind.

  • anthony apduhan

The only problem for this game is…
Will this be next-gen? or current-gen?

    • http://www.twitter.com/morenicano Morenicano

that’s the exact same question I have. I’m surprised it wasn’t asked

  • hazelnut1112

From what I read, this is starting to look better than SFxT. And all it was just some text that looks like it has potential. Plus, this is Bamco doing the game and not Capcom. So we will wait and see. What are the chances this might get a PC release now that Bamco is starting to release their games on PC now?

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

yupe no more Disk lock stuff from Namco in this <:3.

    • Kaihedgie

      There’s disk-locked stuff in SCV

And there was technically disk-locked content in TTT2 as well

      • Dhruv Rajyagor

Oh yeah, Dampierre was disc-locked. Though thankfully it’s not like 12 characters on disc

        • Kaihedgie

Unlike the SFXT characters, you were able to fight Dampierre several times in a normal mode instead of simply being locked out

  • Spirit Macardi

If Pac-Man isn’t in this, that’ll instantly make this game better than SF X Tekken.

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

What about MegaMan? I mean BA MegaMan

  • Tee Niitris

Guess Harada felt it was necessary to make a public statement saying that TxSF is still being made (a lot of people have been pestering him about it on twitter).

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Haha, oh shit. I totally forgot about this

  • Just Tim

I don’t mind the wait, especially when I can see this as PS4/XB1 release.

  • Vash bane

so Street Fighter X Tekken is the opposite of this one?
(tekken was brought into SF world?)

    • Chaos_Knight

SFxT uses SF-style gameplay. TxSF will use Tekken-style.

  • midgard229

screw this game, give me soul calibur 6 for ps4……character creation at its finest!

    • Shady Shariest

Maybe this time they would bother making a story for their game! :D
Edit: Dat Char. Customization, though *drools*

      • midgard229

Yeah, well I mean, Namco cut them off, the creator said he only got 25% of the story done for the game. They still have cutscenes that haave voices, some without, etc but they werent allowed to finish it.

then you have the characters that werent allowed to be finished. They showed rock, and spoke of Cassandra having a new fighting style with 1 sword and no shield.

theres still more story than tekken lol. even if they slack on the story and just go all out on character creation, i wouldnt care lol.

        • Shady Shariest

What?! Now i will def. Pick up SC 6! Quite rude to cut pretty much all of the game out :P

And agreed on that Tekken part ;P Getting TTT2 and doing the research on the characters i didn’t know about turned out to be a gold mine of info :)

          • midgard229

ha yeah, I mean i like that tekken always has CG endings tho, i miss those. i get confused though because Soul cal has way better graphics than tekken but its made by the same company lol. why is that?

and yeah namco had no faith in project soul which is sad.

          • Shady Shariest

Wellp. Maybe the team gets a chance to do a real game trough some struggling…

And i am a fan of those CG endings too :) TTT2 along with SC4 have the most amazing cg’s in history :D

    • Dhruv Rajyagor

Until then, we play SoulCalibur II HD Online! While it doesn’t have character creation, it’s the second best (if not the best) game in the series! Unfortunately, no Wii U version w/ Link :(

      • midgard229

its odd though, I used to play soul edge, soul blade, then played SC briefly, wasnt a fan, then SC2, I wasnt a fan, then SC 3, and i loved it. then SC4 and loved it even more. Then SC 5, and adored it even more!!! seriously, me and my fiance go crazy when a new SC comes out haha. and its honestly because im a character designer by trade, so I’ve made most of my characters in the game. hahah

        • Nate

SC3 is one of my favorite games ever and my favorite in the series. With SC2 being a close second. But you can’t beat that fun inovative War mode that sc3 had. I used to spend hours and hours farming for more costume parts and doing that rts built in game. None of the other games adventure modes compare to that rts one sc3 had. :)

          • midgard229

that was an awesome mode. they should bring it back. but I have over 300 hours in SC5 with offline MP with mostly my fiance. hah, Soooo many costumes i made, Love it!

        • Ronldbx6

I tend to like any soul calibur game just becuase it’s soul calibur. I don’t favor or bash any of the games in the series, have enjoyed them all.

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I made 150 people in it last time…

          • midgard229

ha im sure im above that. well sorta, I started doing alternate costumes for characters as well :P

          • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I wouldhave had morebut I lostmy data :/

  • leingod

SFxT wasn’t a bad game, but it wasn’t that good either… kinda tried too hard to incorporate elements from both franchises and some aspects ended being half-assed. Oh, and the whole DLC fiasco didn’t help it at all…

I do have some confidence in Harada though, and that he noticed all that. Looking forward to play his take on the crossover.

  • Celiacus

Good to hear. Was getting worried it was cancelled. If they make it right, this could be amazing. I got faith in Harada and his team.

  • Göran Isacson

Sweet, had kinda forgotten about this… now I just hope it will have Lee Chaolan and, dare I dream it, Rainbow Mika and/or Karin? A man can always dream, I suppose…

  • Anime10121

Can’t wait! Been looking forward to this with each Tekken announcement, and FINALLY we here something, and I can kinda understand their reasoning. Putting both titles out in a similar time frame would hinder both games sales potential. But even saying that, I’d rather have this game sooner.

  • Monterossa

Not interest. I never liked Tekken’s gameplay. it’s the worst 3D fighting game IMO.

    • Guest

Says the guy with no taste.

      • Kaihedgie

        Taste is subjective

    • Nitraion

Haha I am the who hate tekken series too, maybe you should try Tekken revoluiton those graphical change and critical arts make me better getting in the game though kinda spammy :V
but i still hate the game like unblockable moves, projectie move that i know easy to dodge but sometimes forgot to do it if someone doing the move right….. and i kinda sometimes feel chara kinda overpowered to others because how easy to spam some moves that have high damage like kazuya for example his helicopeter kicks and laser his critical arts too seems have more damage and easy to hit than others :V…

  • Aaron Boal

I thought they (SFxT and TxSF) were the same thing.

    • leingod

Nope. Each company will have its own take on the crossover, just like SNK and Capcom back in the day.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Hah, good to know! :)

  • Demeanor

I vastly prefer Tekken’s battle system to SF’s, I am mighty curious about this… on one side you have a complete, already fleshed out cast of Tekken characters with 100+ moves each, you’d need to create a comparable movelist for quite a number of SF characters (guess they’ll be 50-50), and that sounds like a LOT of work!!! While SFxT has “dumbed down” Tekken chars to SF mechanics, the opposite is true this time imo, SF characters get “elevated” to Tekken mechanics. Also, one needs to consider how the moves are vastly different: how can you mesh Tekken’s technical/positioning moves with the explosive dynamics of SF? Looks to me like SF characters would have an edge XD with those earth-splitting strikes.

    • petran79

Capcom will give them assets from Street Fighter EX+ games

  • DCBlackbird

Hmmm… When you bring characters from a 3d plane to a sideview one you’ll have to water them down and simplify their moves…… But the other way around you’ll have to build them up to make them “equal” namco if you pull this off then by god you’ll move up into my top ten companies replacing Gearbox

  • Dagobert

I was always looking forward to the Namco version of the game. I hope this is released for next gen PS4.

  • Vincent Wolf

I’m very skeptic about it, it’s probably gonna have like 16 playable characters or so, due to Tekken’s infinitely more diverse move sets. But honestly, I just want two things from this game — release on PC so I could try it, and Poison.

    • Slayven19

Naw I think they’ll have at least to 40 like sf x tk had. Not only that but the game is 3d which means that models aren’t hard to make and movesets are probably easy to make for the namco team.

  • incpdo

Please Namco make it happen ! Please a Vita begging port!

  • fairysun

I am disappointed with the stunt (disc-locked content) that Capcom pulled during Street Fighter X Tekken.

I am hoping this version do not pull that kind of crap. Go Namco !

    • Chee Yang

Tekken always had character costume customization, so no worries.

  • disqus_VYqqwQ8BRH

I hope This will be 100% Better than Streetfighter x Tekken and that they make a PS4 Version to

  • Hines Green III

Tekken is hard to play for me. :/ I’ll just look at vids and hope they pick Rainbow Mika for the roster.

  • Syltique

Now just get going on Soul Calibur x Final Fantasy Namco!

  • Slayven19

Why did people think it was canceled when he even said before that it wasn’t? Why do people want these games to be revealed so early for when people always complain about beta’s?

  • Bob Obb

Bullshit, it’s totally gonna end up cancelled.

  • Carlius

OMG how many buttons are you going to have to press, for Akuma’s finisher?

  • Zander Valkiera

We just have to wait guys, its comin’ on NEW GEN i think…
