By Sunjun . August 13, 2013 . 3:32pm

017 Devils and Realist: Treasure of the Deputy King is a 3DS game based on an anime airing now. The original series follows the story of William, an aristocratic progeny. When his uncle loses all of his possessions, William searches his home for belongings that he can sell, in the process unleashing a demon named Dantalion who reveals that William has the power to choose the king of the demon world.

The Devils and Realist game will feature an original story featuring Rashild, a transfer student and the son of an Egyptian diplomat.

William and Rashild quickly become friends, but when a mysterious intruder invades the school, they discover the existence of a treasure hidden within the school. William and Dantalion soon begin their treasure hunt, bent on grasping fame and fortune.

Along with Rashild (left), there is another new characters, a mysterious young man named Heydar (right).

The game plays like a visual novel with decision-making points and branching storylines. As you progress, the game will measure your wealth as well as your friendship with the demon characters, including Dantalion, Sytry, Camio, and Kevin. The story will end differently depending on whether you choose to bond with the demons or follow your own greedy desires.

To help you complete every route, the game includes a chart that lets you review every decision-making point you passed and your friendship levels with the demons.

Devils and Realist: Treasure of the Deputy King will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on September 26.

And why would I want to be friends with a demon?Wouldn’t that mean I’m evil?Anyway I have a question is the term demon in Japanese used the same way as in the west?

    • 07thCrow

From what I’ve seen, the term for ‘demons’ in Japan appears to be the same for most spirits; good and bad ones. Truly ‘evil’ demons, or even ‘monsters’, I’ve heard referred to as “akuma”; a literal “evil spirit” and “demon” like those in Christianity. Of course, there are a lot of different words used to describe demons, spirits and monsters, but these are my observations. The demons of Japanese folklore seem more mischievous than outright evil, and will leave people alone if they are shown respect; sometimes even being beneficial and helping people! Again, these are just my observations, so I’m sure my explanation is not completely accurate. But yes, the Eastern and Western views of demons are quite different. :)

      • Antixono

I’ve been wondering since I see them use it so casually.

        • Fidelis

Man, what seems like 60% of jrpgs and animes involve spirits referred to as demons in SOME way. It’s just such a common thing

          • Antixono

            I see.

So this is basically an Otome game

  • IshimaruKaito

interesting i might pick this up if its localized

  • Presea

I’d play if it is localized. I watched some of the episodes, and it was a pretty interesting anime so I bet the game would be pretty interesting as well.

    • ShadowDivz

Is the anime good? I was thinking about watching it, but alot of anime today are a LITTLE more than a waste of time instead of being engaging.

      • Presea

I found the premise interesting. It’s like demons fighting over Satan’s throne (while he takes a break from power overload), but in the end the only one that can elect that demon is a realist human who refuses the demon’s existence. The fighting scenes are pretty cool, nice flashy stuff. There seems to be good character development (and some implied BL(?)). It’s not the best thing I have ever watched in my life, but it was entertaining and fun. :) I haven’t been up to date with it though since episode 4 since I was busy, but if you have some extra time on your hands, give it a shot. :)

          Thx it does sound interesting.

  • Malon

How high are the chances this gets localized ?

    • Rytan

Ask Aksys. They seem to be the only company that supports Otome in the West.

  • Audie Bakerson

No furigana? I thought it was standard on 3DS games (SMT4 seemed WAY above the demographic it normally is suitable for, so it clearly wasn’t only for kids games)

Be “friends” with the demons, they say, while displaying a game chock-full of pretty boys being pretty at each other… yeah I can imagine what kind of “friends” this game wants us to be.

People locked in the friend zone with other dudes because these shows never actually have the testicular fortitude to have the guys outright kiss :D !

Okay, okay that was mean of me. I’ve only seen a couple of episodes so I can’t judge it too much, but it sure is giving off that vibe.

    • Firekitty

The manga is serialized in Zero Sum, which…kinda specializes in stuff that dances RIGHT on the line between fanservice and actual BL.

Unfortunately, you’re probably right about them never actually getting together, but it’s still a pretty good series…the anime’s still setting things up, but I’m up to vol 5 or 6 of the manga, and it’s got a good mix of comedy and actual plot, and the potential for some juicy political action.

      • Göran Isacson

Mm, from what I’ve read so far of events to come it does sound like this could have an interesting story, even if it won’t have dudes outright making out because… reasons? Actually I never really got why there seems to be this whole anime-genre where they tease homosexual relationships (wether between men or women) but they never seal the deal, so to speak. To have “will they-won’t they” friction is part and parcel of romantic stories, that I get, but to never really reach… release, I say, realizing how off it can sound? Is it just considered too raunchy?

    It looks like MAGI

I really like the anime. I hope the game gets localized ^u^
