Yatagarasu Is Coming To PlayStation Vita As Legend Of Raven

By Spencer . August 22, 2013 . 4:51pm

Nicalis, the company that picked up Cave Story and developing The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, is bringing Yatagarasu to PlayStation Vita. Yatagarasu will be renamed Legend of Raven, but it’s the same core game from a team that made King of Fighters titles. Kotani Tomoyuki hand animated the eight fighters in the game.

Legend of Raven has been enhanced for Vita with a new soundtrack, parallaxing backgrounds, and ad-hoc play. Players will be able to battle each other through an ad-hoc versus mode.

Legend of Raven is slated for release later this year via PlayStation Network.

  • Daverost

Kind of annoying since I just dumped $10 into the IGG campaign for the PC version overhaul, but good for them, I guess. Would rather have paid to have it on Vita.

  • Sapitntapit

Oh man, all these 2D fighting games coming are getting me pumped

  • Arcana Wiz

we are really getting a lot of new informations regarding 2d fighters recently, glad that these niche titles are getting localized.

  • TheExile285

A new fighter for my Vita? Oh holy hell yes!

Now if only we could get Chaos Code with cross play and BlazBlue CP

EDIT: Oh, I like it already.

  • leingod

Awesome news! I wish the game didn’t have those sidebars though :/

    • TheExile285

yeah. there aren’t even fancy sidebars like Guilty Gear lol

      • jujubee88

They could probably fill them in the end product. Or not. ;p

  • Shane Guidaboni

What happened to that 3DS announcement?I like how they basically confirmed that, then it fell through..At least put this on PSN and not just Vita.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Courtesy of benhofb:

“Originally announced for the Nintendo 3DS, we’ve since moved development over to PSN due to the incredibly overwhelming response from the fighting gaming community.”

      • Shane Guidaboni

So, it is going to be PSN in general so I can download this on my PS3, or is it Vita exclusive like this article is implying?

        • Solomon_Kano

          The blog says Vita.

  • No9

I wonder if this is gonna be the Attack on Cataclysm update or the older version.

    • Solomon_Kano

Definitely won’t be Attack on Cataclysm since that won’t be ready til February and this is coming this year.

      • No9

Ah I see that makes sense! Thanks!

        • Solomon_Kano

          No prob.

  • Solomon_Kano

Interesting. I first heard about this with the crowdfund for the update, but having the original come to Vita is nice.

  • mike dickson

whoa im surprise to hear this coming on vita i’ve played the pc version i like it but it felt really lacking that and the fact theres clone characters

  • vileBrenman

We sure are getting alot of cool fighting games with this and chaos code and that aquapazza

  • Michael Connell

Anyone know if this will be the upgraded version that was being crowdfunded on Indiegogo?

    • Solomon_Kano

This will be out this year and the updated version won’t be out til next year, so it’d have to be the original.

  • AQuatermain

Very disappointed with Nicalis to cancel N3DS version. But they also did it with La-Mulana on WiiWare.

  • d19xx

How’s this game btw? I heard it’s more SFIII than KOF, is that true?

  • Keine

Is this the old version or attack on cataclysm…??

  • kylehyde

All right I don’t have nothing agains this game coming to vita, actually I think that is good.

However, this doesn’t change the fact that many eshop buyers have been waiting for news about this game since it was announced for the eshop and even when they (nicalis) released even a little press release we didn’t lose the patience, but this certainly is disrespectful. If they don’t believe that there was a crowd on the eshop wanting this game I think they should read the replys to their original tweet.

I hope they change their mind and bring it to the eshop too.

  • Magnumsally

big mistake vita has low install base and that wont change.

    • yomachaser

      Keep telling yourself that.

    • TheExile285
    • J_Joestar

it shouldn’t be too big of an issue for what i get the impression is a more modestly budgeted game. Being a Digital only release also helps cut costs.
Only mistake I see is cancelling the 3DS version as it’s install base’s size will definitely make up for the cost to finish it’s version.

Hanzo is my favourite character in the game along side with Crow.
I’m glad that Yatagarasu is getting a little of spot light. Now we just need Vanguard Princess in the consoles.
And heck! Vita is turning into a must have portable system if you like fighting games

  • Eder García

    this decision is very risky

    • TheExile285

You act like this is some big budget game.

Everyone throwing hissy fits whenever something gets announced for Vita is starting to get old..

      • Eder García

im just saying because nicalis is getting a lot of heat on twitter because of that decision. those rage tweets came from non fighting game gamers interested in this game

        • TheExile285

Well maybe they will port it afterwards if demands keeps up

      • J_Joestar

the issue is more that it is being canned on another system rather than the fact a Vita version is coming.

  • Darrell Seven

Well now don’t I feel stupid for waiting around for the 3ds port. Great, guess if I want to play a good fighter on 3ds I’ll just have to pop in DOA for the 100th time. Way to let me down Nicalis.

    • leeorv

Darrell, if you want fighters on a handheld you really should get the Vita, it has Perfect ports of most fighters already, and is compatible with PSP versions of the ones it is missing.

You can play the following fighters on Vita:
      Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
      Street Fighter x Tekken
      Dead or Alive 5 Plus
Guilty Gear XX AC + (or whatever the latest one is called)
      Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend
      Mortal Kombat 9
      Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
      DBZ: Battle of Z

And the ones below are available through PSP compatibility:
      Tekken 6
      Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny
      Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
      Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX

as well as a bunch of Anime and WWE games.

Also, Rumors say that Injustice Vita is coming, and that BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will have a Vita version.

      • He wants fighting games on 3DS too.

        • Darrell Seven

It’s is true that I want more fighters on 3DS, the system has proven capable of handling them so why not. But, leerov did mention something I had not previously considered….Chrono Phantasma. I was pretty upset that it wasn’t announced for 360 but if it comes for vita I may just need to get a new memory stick and get that.

  • Suicunesol

Sure, bring it to Vita. I don’t see the reasoning behind canceling other versions, though. :( It’s not like this 2D fighter is using technologies that the 3DS doesn’t have, right?

    • J_Joestar

really, have no issue with a Vita version, just let us have the 3DS one too…

  • Vitonofrio del Rosso

is pc version on steam as well? will vita version still have multiplayer? psn worldwide or only psn usa?

    • Vitonofrio del Rosso

ad-hoc play.. no online? game’s dead to me :X
going back to pc then sighhhhhh

  • Ryuukishi

    Sweet. Will buy.

  • Göran Isacson

Wonder if that’s going to be the name it gets in English-speaking territories… even on Steam or whatever PC-market it ends up on. Oh well- I kickstarted the updated version, so this don’t really affect me much.

  • Aristides

Glorious! Vita is perfect for fighting games! I cant wait!

  • Yan Zhao

Would like a PS3/360 version with online as well.

  • Ståle Laastad

anyone know if this game is 16:9?
hope so, if not it would look kinda cramped on the vita.
blazblue was pure magic on the go.
