Nintendo Targets 5 Million Nintendo 3DS Sales In Japan For 2013

By Ishaan . August 27, 2013 . 11:30am

At an event held by Capcom in Tokyo today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata shared that Nintendo hope to sell over 5 million units of the Nintendo 3DS in Japan alone in 2013, according to a Bloomberg report.

Iwata added that Nintendo sold over 5.5 million 3DS units in Japan in 2012, and that Nintendo plan to release a series of titles for the device after the release of Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4, such as Pokémon X/Y, in order to achieve the sales target.

Nintendo plan to sell 18 million units of Nintendo 3DS worldwide by the end of this fiscal year, up from 13.95 million units sold last year.

I buy mine japanese 3DS today (for Decode and Taiko… and in the future Medarot) so one more they get already ^^

Welcome to the club. Club “We Really Should Use Our Money For Something More Useful But Whatever!”

Taiko is pretty epic; the last few bosses in the story will be pretty tough the first few tries; it’s unfair as hell. Nab EX Troopers as well.

Need MH4 in my system nowwwwww.

      • Blackikun

I got Decode on my birthday from a good friend so it was a “must have my money push into this” so the japanese 3DS was no big deal and i order Taiko with it ^^ and thanks for the info i hope my beat will kill all XD

Nintendo will a have a mountain of cash raining in.

    • kylehyde

Unfortunately, a big part of that cash is going to be used to pay the bills for the Wii U, but I guess is going to be enough money to be closer to the profitability

      • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

That’s to be expected. Its a good thing Nintendo has their hands in the handheld and console market. The 3DS will cover some of the Wii U’s slack. 2014 Will be the Wii U’s yr.

  • James Enk

gl Nintendo keep up the good work

  • SlickRoach

As an owner of both handhelds it’s pretty much overkill to have MH4 & X/Y come out a month apart. One’s huge in Japan and the other’s huge worldwide. But regardless, once October hits my life shall be devoted to Pokémon as much as possible.

    • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

You forgot about Zelda. WW HD ( I now its for the Wii U but still) comes out in October followed by Link between worlds in November.

      • SlickRoach

I don’t have a Wii U but like Okami the graphics of WW are pretty timeless so I’ll just stick with my GCN copy unless they throw in some sort of Tetra mode which I doubt since it’s only a remake.

    • Namuro

whereas I shall devote mine to Monster Hunter 4!

Oh, what a glorious year this is for us all…

      • SlickRoach

Lucky you! I don’t have a Japanese 3DS so MH4 isn’t an option for me until it (hopefully) comes to NA. But since it’ll have online even the almighty Pokémon series may have to be put on the backburner because me and my best friend are huge MH fans.

        • Namuro

Cool, hope we can hunt together in the future, fellow hunter!

  • Göran Isacson

5 mil seems a bit much. Like, how many players that like MonHun and Pokemon don’t already own a 3DS? But hey, never say never when it comes to Nintendo and their portables printing money…

    • Miss_Madness

You’d be surprised how many pokemon fans don’t own a 3DS. Since the last major game was for DS as well.

      • Göran Isacson

Huh, was it? I guess I must’ve misremembered, I could’ve sworn Pokemon Black and White 2 was for the 3DS. Well if that’s the case, then I can see the Poke-fans who’re still sticking to the DS joining the 3D-side.

        • 하세요

Black / White 2 was a standard DS game. This is the first main installment in the series on 3DS. I already know 10 friends who are buying a 3DS just for X / Y.

    • Skyer Ist

MH4 and X/Y has gorgeous hardware bundles. 3DS sales will rise to the heaven with such a blockbuster titles this fall.

  • Skyer Ist

    GOOOOO, Nintendo!

  • getsuga embrace

bit undermining considering Pokemon IS nintendo’s killer app for handheld, should be 6.5 million, I brought DS all i ever brought for it were pokemon gam.es
