Capcom And Nintendo To Announce Their Latest Collaboration Soon

By Sato . August 28, 2013 . 12:00pm

Earlier in the week, we got a look at Monster Hunter 4’s opening movie, in addition to a new “Guild Quest” feature that will be available in the game. The Japanese Engadget blog follows up with further details that reveal Capcom and Nintendo are currently working on some sort of collaboration, soon to be announced.

As previously reported, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that the company has sold over 5.5 million 3DS units in Japan in 2012, and they hope to sell over 5 million units in Japan alone in 2013. According to reports, the 3DS is a highly connected console, boasting over a 90% connectivity rate, which Monster Hunter 4 will be taking full advantage of, with the game’s online multiplayer feature, which has been long-awaited feature for the handheld versions of the series.

During a recent event, Nintendo and Capcom also expressed their intent to do something special to symbolize the tag-team effort that the two companies put into Monster Hunter 4. While it hasn’t been revealed whether it will be related to Monster Hunter 4, further details regarding the collaboration will be revealed sometime before the September 14th release date of the game, in a “Direct!” fashion, according to the two companies.

I want to say something Megaman but no.

    • Megaman armor and weapons for DLC in MH4?

Edit: They should make a Megaman game for the Wii U titled Megaman Legends X.

      • Musashi234

That would actually be pretty BadAss!

      • XypherCode

Cool but doesn’t really involve Nintendo.

        • I know but his comment was related to Megaman.

        • Dhruv Rajyagor

          If it’s a Wii U exclusive, then it’d involve Nintendo :P

    • MB_cl

Nintendo buys Megaman rights, MML3 is brought back from the dead and Maverick Hunter X2 is given greenlight for the 3DS.

      Sorry, couldn t resist.

      • Musashi234

As much as i would love a Maverick Hunter X2 but without Inafune the game wouldn’t have that Charm to it.

        • MB_cl

Well I don´t think Inafune would be troubled to give a hand to Nintendo if such a thing would happen.

And come on, the last MM game Capcom did without Inafune wasn t that bad…which was…oh, nevermind…

    • JNT

      Megaman is dead, friend.

They still have him down in Capcom’s rape dungeon

      • D H

Yeah, it’s a shame all these “fans” that s’posedly support him stopped buying the games and forced Capcom’s hand to stop making them, huh?

Seriously, and take this from a huge Mega Man fan: Let. It. Go. There’s plenty of business reasons why Mega Man isn’t coming out right now and is being reviewed, and Capcom is a business first. If something isn’t making money (and worse yet, selling less and less with each iteration), you don’t keep putting it out. You start putting out things that are making money (see the ten billion versions of Street Fighter IV). Let the fact that Mega Man related items continue to appear in game series that are actually making money show you that, yes, Capcom does *care* about the brand, but until an idea that actually looks like it can make money comes around, their hand is tied. Mega Man Legends 3? A sequel to a already-hard-to-justify-sales-wise sequel of a notoriously low selling game that’s a spin-off from another game series that sells less with each entry on a system that, at the time, was already horribly struggling and everybody considered a “failure”… sounds like a good idea to me, if you want to lose money. Mega Man Universe? A game that most of the (vocal, at least) fanbase lamblasted for its looks without even giving it a chance… sounds like a good idea to me, if you want to lose money. Rockman Online? Completely out of Capcom’s hand on that one, that’s all NeoWiz.

The only thing that was potentially promising money-making wise in the current market was that FPS Maverick Hunter game, which for whatever reason was not pursued. Honestly, glad it wasn’t, as it doesn’t look or feel anything like “Mega Man” should.

Meanwhile, we have Rockman Xover, another game that a huge amount of “fans” are claiming is horrible based on words of a few that played it without giving it a chance themselves (I haven’t had a chance to play it, and I’m not saying it’s a great game, but I won’t know that until I get to play it, and I don’t care what other people say about it, just like I don’t care what they say about any game/movie/TV show… I can make my own opinions, thank you), has apparently been very successful as far as money-making goes, and continues to get new updates. Sure, it’s a “phone game,” and I get that arguement, I don’t play games on my phone (mainly because I don’t have or need a “smart”phone), but at least its so far been successful. It’s a step in the right direction for Mega Man, and wouldn’t exist if Capcom didn’t have any respect for the franchise…

  • JonathanisPrimus

The last time this happened most of the games ended up getting ported to PS2.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

      not this time

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because it was in Capcoms wheel house.

Actually the last time this happened we got Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons

  • NightzeroAX

Get IntiCreates to finish ZX series plz.

  • TheRealMalek

Capcom + Nintendo collaborations are nearly always masterpiece, so yes ! (just hoping for something new)

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      • XypherCode

That’d be great! And maybe Platinum making it. No sense if it’s not Kamiya handling it.

      • TheRealMalek

I was more thinking of Zelda link’s awakening (more of my gen :p)

But there was other great things. BTW Okami is not really capcom (it was clover and published by capcom)

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

          Clover is Platinum.
Hence why Im secretly hoping for VJ3 and Okami2.

          Or MegaManXKirby or MegamanXMetroid.

But nooo Capcom puts Viewtiful Joe as a cameo character in their damn smartphone brawler.

*Runs off with MH and AA5 crying deep red tears of Himalayan salt*

  • RichyGaming

I truly wish for a Capcom vs Arc System Works vs French bread(Is that it?)

    • neocatzon

and handled by Arcsys, that’s golden.

  • J_Joestar

Yo Iwata, try to push for Legends Ports and then maybe Legends 3!

    • TheExile285

      GOD I hope so.

  • Pockystix

  • Shadowman

Monster Hunter localization somewhere in the distance future?

    • J_Joestar

That should be expected already since Nintendo has been putting a lot of effort in helping localization of the games. Still too soon for 4 though since they probably don’t want to cannibalize 3U sales.

Of course there is Frontier G coming to the Wii U…

  • XypherCode

    Mario and Link equipment DLC.

    • linkenski

Link costume and Light/Fire/Ice bow would be amazing!

  • Guest

    Capcom vs Nintendo?
    Megaman 3DS?
    Phoenix Wright in SSB4?
Mario & Luigi costumes for Monster Hunter?

I wanna find out pronto :P

    • XypherCode

It might be Nintendo funding Mega Man Legends 3.
      We can dream. XD

      • Anime10121

Yeah cuz unfortunately, thats all Legends 3 will ever be, a dream :(

      • InfectedAI

Only if Inafune works on it.

  • More than likely something from Nintendo franchises will appear in MH in terms weapons or armor. If they announce a new IP I’ll be thrilled.

    • J_Joestar

All for it if it means that it is something that wont be removed during localization.

  • TheExile285

    MH character in Smash :P

    • XypherCode

At least a MH stage in Smash Bros.! :))

      • J_Joestar

Imagine the sudden music change when the Stage Hazard is coming!

        • XypherCode

Hell yeah! It’ll make the fight more thrilling!

        • SetzerGabbiani

Jho music change would be AWESOME!!!

        • 하세요

The battle wouldn’t even be about fighting each other – merely out-surviving the others.

Fuck the Bob-omb Sudden Death – just have Savage Jho drop on the screen to pass judgement.

      • TheExile285

now that you mention it, it will probably be both.

      • 하세요

It’s been modded before; one of my favorite stages is Great Desert (Jhen boat battle). It would be swell to see that actually happen. I feel a hunter would tough as:

        1) If he uses one weapon then people will whine it’s not ____ weapon
        2) If he uses everything then the moveset may be too congested

I could see a felyne being a character but with WFT and Villager I think we have enough “joke” characters for one roster, and this is coming from a huge MH fan.

I’m okay with just a stage.

        In case anyone is curious:

        • TheExile285

I think one attack for each weapon will work

          • 하세요

If they could make it work and still be feasible for actual gameplay (not a tier whore but I know a horrible character when I see one) then I’d use the hell out of him.

        • XypherCode

It would be great if it’s actually a hazard stage when monsters are actually coming at you or something.

  • Surgeon of Death

This is not really likely but I would love to see Viewtiful Joe.

    • Spirit Macardi

Dear lord yes! Nintendo could even use their relationship with Platinum to get Kamiya back :3

  • kylehyde

    Resident Evil VS Luigi’s Mansion
    Pokemonster hunter
A megaman game made by nintendo and a new zelda made by capcom

    • Brimfyre

Why did you get a down vote? Those are all fantastic ideas.

    • TheRealMalek

Megaman legend 3 made by nintendo “Mother team” *mind explose*

  • Chaos_Knight

    Nintendo vs Capcom?
    Legends 3 on Wii U?
FE or LoZ costumes/gear in MH?

    • leingod

Megaman Legends on Wii U would be freakin’ sweet.

    • Doubt it would be NvC due to Smash Bros and having its own MM cameo.
Cameos in MonHun is a very realistic guess.

    • Warboss Aohd

      “Legends 3 on Wii U”
dat would get me ta buy a Wii U.

  • Göran Isacson

Maybe something related to Gaist Crusher? Like, a Nintendo Direct meant to pimp the game to a new audience? Sure, it would be a collosal anti-climax but it’s not entirely outside the realm of possibilities…

  • linkenski

If that screenshot is related, then there’s no doubt they announcing MH4… or wait is this strictly Nintendo of japan we’re talking about?

    • 하세요

Strictly Japan. They’re celebrating about Monster Hunter 4.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Monster hunter X pokemon please!!!!!!

    • TheExile285

      How would that work?

      • Slaying Pokemon?
I think Metroid enemies suit the series more.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        very well

  • linkenski

“Ace Attorney vs. Mushroom Kingdom! – Turnabout Star Rod”

  • NTaiyokun

Nintendo vs. Capcom. Calling it now.

Also calling Ultimate Nintendo vs. Capcom and Ultimate Nintendo vs. Capcom Arcade Edition.

  • TheGioG

Crossing fingers for a Nintendo vs. Capcom fighting game. Sweet Jesus, I can feel it now!

  • Capcom vs. Smash Bros.

    Capcom vs. Smash Bros.

    Capcom vs. Smash Bros.

  • Ethan_Twain

Well we’ve already got multiple hardware bundles announced, what else could Nintendo be up to in promoting Monster Hunter?

Could be a Smash Bros character from the franchise. Could be a crossover the other way too, and there could be some random Nintendo stuff in MH 4. Costumes or whatever.

Neither of those really make me think Nintendo Direct though. How else has Nintendo supported third party exclusives? They could be handling western publishing/distribution for them, but that’s not something you expect people to get excited about. Certainly not the Japanese audience.

    • Ethan_Twain

Wait, what are the odds on this being another Wii U plaza add on app?

    • I would expect a collaboration with costumes/characters like you suggested, similar to what they did with the MGS Peace Walker collaboration of Portable 3rd.

  • Audie Bakerson

With Nintendo, they couldn’t screw up Gotcha Force 2… right?

    • Tre W

They would need a development team. Most of those staffers (who are also behind the Gundam Vs. games) have since left Capcom and are a new company named “ByKing” now.

  • Neophoton

A proper Breath of Fire? I wouldn’t mind Monolith Soft working with the BoF team on one… :D (I can dream, can’t I?)

Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll turn out to be solid.

  • I hope it will be just like SMT IV, quick localization of the game with the help of nintendo, just cant wait to play MH4 XD

  • Placido Michael Cortorreal Flo

    Megaman Legends….
Megaman PRE-Zero(the story about what happened to X before Megaman Zero, i dont know, i liked how X looked at the end of that game)
A new Okami anyone? then another Legend of Zelda…like Minish Cap collaboration

  • Placido Michael Cortorreal Flo

O well…we can hope for the best

  • Heisst

    • Oh god. What have you done?

  • Repede91

My guess: Nintendo picks up and signs the check for MM: Legends 3. Similar to their deal with Sega and Platinum for Bayonetta 2.

    • Kelohmello

Man, I want to say that’d never happen, but… with Megaman appearing in Smash Bros 4, I feel like Nintendo would be the ones to revive the blue bomber far before Capcom would.

      • Repede91

Same here man. Legends 3 was one of the two games I purchased my 3DS at launch for (the other being DOA).

  • Ric Vazquez

I think most agree that something Megaman related is expected, cross fingers.

  • Ric Vazquez

    Just hoping it’s Megaman related

  • AndyLC

    >>During a recent event, Nintendo and Capcom also expressed their intent to do something special to symbolize the tag-team effort…

  • UkiyaSeed

Sooo, some Street Fighter characters in Super Smash Bros? (or Uncle Scrooge, please)

  • Ying

Exclusive Megaman game for the Wii U/3DS maybe? Probably not, but it would make sense especially with Megaman being in Smash Bros
