Monster Hunter 4 Players Attempt To Tame The Dark Beast Goa Magara

By Sato . August 29, 2013 . 4:30pm

During Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 event “Summer Hunting Tryouts” that took place earlier this month, we’ve seen Hunters take on Great Jaggi and the boulder-throwing Tetsukabura. However, we haven’t seen many live to tell the tale of their fight against Goa Magara, until now.

The video starts out with an Insect Staff-wielding Hunter, who just happens to start right in front of the fearsome beast. Just in case you don’t know exactly how fearsome he is,  you can check out the game’s opening video, where he easily crushes a wild Tigrex.

The first thing that is immediately noticeable in the video are the traces of circular dark areas left behind by Goa Magara. This is most likely the beast’s way of leaving some of its Feral Wyvern Virus for the players.

As the Hunters scramble around to avoid the massive dragon’s attacks, they successfully catch him in a Shock Trap, followed by a good beating from all four players. At the 0:48 mark, the Insect Staff Hunter can be seen absorbing several buffs using his weapon’s special ability.

The Hunter then follows up with its other unique ability of being able to do a jump-attack without needing a ledge to jump off. This demonstrates that Insect Staff Hunters will be a great addition to the party, as they can even climb on the back of larger monsters such as Goa Magara, with ease.

While the party continue hitting the dark beast with everything they got, Goa Magara begins to change color over time. As seen in our earlier report, once it goes from blue to purple, Goa Magara’s perceptive ability increases, and he’ll eventually transform into its Feral Wyvern Mode, which not only increases his parameters but also changes his movements.

The Insect Staff Hunter is shown making several jump-attack attempts, but appears to have a much tougher time landing them; however, even once he does, the Goa Magara doesn’t allow him to carve his back with the Hunting Knife very easily, and performs not one, but two roars in attempt to knock him off.

The video concludes with the Hunter being rewarded for his hard work, with a nice chop of the tail.

Monster Hunter 4 is slated for release on September 14 for Nintendo 3DS.

Really want to play this on my Vita. Hopefully I can get it to work on my Vita one day. Who will down vote me this time?

    • ZEROthefirst

Everyone at Capcom who’s stated they have no plans on bringing this over to the Vita maybe?

While I will say it would be nice to see MH4 on the Vita, I highly doubt it will happen. If it gets another console I see it being MH4G on the WiiU, and maybe down the road we’ll see MHP4/P4G on the Vita, but not going to bet on it at this point.

          • Martian Wong

It is definitely nice to see it on Vita. I hope that once they are done with 3DS version, they will consider Vita version. I am glad you replied to me rather than just down vote. Some people just got no guts to speak their mind!!!!

          • ZEROthefirst

I don’t see the point in down-voting someone’s comment unless they’re blatantly being rude and vulgar about something not going their way. But hey this is the internet, speak about something you want politely and everyone hates you, be annoying/rude, and half hate/love you. *shrugs*

            You speak the truth!

I agree. He simply said he hopes it comes to Vita someday and the Mod says “No port-begging”. Wut? “Please refrain from doing it in the future”. WUT?!?!

    • The reason you’re getting downvoted is because port-begging is against our site rules, the reason being that port-begging discussions aren’t productive and take away from actual conversation about the game. If you want to ask for MH4 on Vita, this isn’t the place to do it. It would be a more productive use of your time to reach out to Capcom instead of derailing discussions on other sites.

You can read our site rules here:

I dont think this is called begging. I am just expressing my opinion. I dont think I have taking away the actual conversation about the game. I am talking about the game just different aspect of it. And do not tell me how I should use my time, how do you know I did not contact Capcom?

        • If you did, then there isn’t much more left that you can do. As stated, port-begging in any form is against the rules here, so please refrain from doing it in the future. It never leads to anything good or productive.

          • Martian Wong

Since you asked nicely, I should comply~

    • Zonron

i think they will, but it wont be this game. maybe monster hunter 5 or a port of frontier. they pretty much sayed they drained the psp money area, and now wants to see what nintendo can offer. but eventually they will see they can make things even better if they sell to both. but by mh5 there might be new systems.
on a related note. this game looks awesome im hoping they do a dlc expansion instead of another g. lets face it, id rather pay 10 bucks to add the content instead of 40-50 on a new version of the game. same reason im not buying ragnarok ody ace. makes me feel like i wasted my money on the first version. should let you buy the extra and keep your original purchase usefull, instead of trashing it.

      • Martian Wong

I purchased RO upon release now..they have ACE….At least I can get it for PS3 rather on Vita. At least that feel like I bought a new game…

  • ZEROthefirst

So tempted to import a Japanese 3DS so I can play this, but I’ll hold off for 4G and or it being localized (doubt that anytime soon though with MH3U coming out earlier this year).

  • Great! Its behavior and moveset seem more managable than I feared. It kind of reminds me of the Zinogre, which I personally find much easier than Tigrex or Diablos. So no worries about getting its sweet armor~♪

    • Namuro

Don’t underestimate him just yet! I remember watching some videos on how to fight certain monsters, and the players made it looks quite easy. When I actually played it though, I got owned so hard. LOL

  • Pockystix

    rawr, dem new weapons~

  • Zonron

i still cant decide what new weapon is better. i likes axes, i like shields, i like one handed swords, and i like spears, and i like homing attacks… mmm

  • Fitzkrieg

The way its wings function as a set of very large forelimbs while it’s enraged freaks me out a bit. It’s a very cool monster, and I look forward to fighting it when Capcom eventually brings the MH4G to the West.

  • Happy Gamer

Vita no vita, pc ps3 wutever, I just want this to come to the west AT ALL and QUICK!!!
