Tales Of Zestiria Is Most Likely The Name Of The Next Tales Game

By Spencer . September 4, 2013 . 11:01pm

imageWhile Namco Bandai makes dozens of Tales trademarks in Japan, they don’t bother filing things like Tales of Favorite in the West. Usually, whatever trademark is registered in North America or Europe is the true Tales trademark.

Siliconera found a trademark for Tales of Zestiria in the European trademark database. We’re betting this will be the name of the next major Tales title and since Namco Bandai already registered Tales of Zestiria in the West there’s a good chance they will bring the game over here.

  • Leon_Tekashi

Wow. That was fast. Now that’s Hideo Baba for you. :D

    • Arcana Wiz

yes, if it’s a game that will be announced at tgs, this year indeed was a tales filled year.

  • Solomon_Kano
  • HououinKyouma

    Come ooon :D.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Not allowed/

  • HerosLight

So they just changed the “o” from Zestoria to Zestiria.

Either way, looking forward to the reveal…

  • Hideo Baba mentioned of speeding localization’s process. I’m eager for more news!!!

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

      dont take his words seriously
if you look at his past interview you can see that he never lived up to his words such as. Not localizing DS Tales games when the install base is there but said he consider localizing the Vita ports if Vita sells in west.

      • Spirit Macardi

To be fair, he’s limited by what Namco decides to let him do. And Namco is run by complete morons.

        • Ladius

Maybe pre-2010 Namco deserved this kind of attitude, but in the last years they have localized or announced Tales of the Abyss 3DS, Tales of Graces, Ni no Kuni, Project X Zone, Time and Eternity, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and Tales of Xillia 2… hardly a publisher worthy of insults from jrpg fans.

          • Spirit Macardi

Still worthy of insults from 2.5D platformer fans though.

Until I hear the voice of Kumiko Watanabe shouting “wahoo” again, I’ll keep pointing them out for the idiots they are :B

        • Marie

          sure thats true

      • Ladius

Except this is wrong, since he hadn’t the same relevance back then when the DS Tales games were still hot and so far he has said that the Vita Tales games have a small chance to be localized unless the user base improves.

Since he has become the series’ spokeperson he has done more than any other jrpg producer to push the series in the west, by participating in tons of conventions and having dozens of interviews in Europe and the US. He promised us a Tales filled year, and we have had Xillia’s release, Symphonia HD’s announcement at the same time as Japan and Xillia 2’s western announcement in a matter of three months.

  • “Tales of Please be Excited”

    • Pockystix

      hey hey

don’t go stealing Square’s sales pitch

    • Alos88

It’s a Tales game, you don’t need to ask in order for me to be excited!

  • Shuga Suenaga

Let this not be a mobile device game please

    • We’ve just gotten Tales of Link recently… Still, for a mobile game getting EU trademarked, I doubt Bamco to be that generous ^^

  • Robbyfishersora

Make it for ps3 or ps4.

    • Freud_Hater

      …Isn’t that a given?

    • $36598391

      I hope it’s for 3DS which hasn’t gotten it’s own Tales game

Tales of the Abyss doesn’t count because it was originally on PS2

      • fairysun

Sad thing is, I have never seen any handheld console Tales game being released outside of Japan.

        • Guest

Tales of Phantasia for the GBA and Tales of the Abyss 3D says hi!

But if you are only including original games and not ports, then you are right.

          • pimpalicious

That was the first release for Phantasia in the West though, so it kinda counts. Tales was kinda weak in the US when the DS/PSP games came out. Tales of Eternia also had a PSP release in Europe. Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology(PSP) was also released in the west.

      • Bec66

So those it count for someone who missed their chance to play the PS2 version?

        • $36598391

Good news for you the PS2 version can be bought brand new under $25 on Amazon

          • Bec66

My PS2 died a long time ago plus I’ve already played the 3DS version and loved it.

      • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

I have it and never did or heard of it during 6th gen. I also got Symphonia and DotNW after beating all of those. It wouldn’t count as a exclusive but it still a must have for the system.

If don’t buy it why would Namco even consider. Look DS Tales not localized.

  • Zeonsilt

I think the reveal will be at TGS this year.Pretty sure about it.
    At least,a trailer or something.

  • Cephrien

    God I hope not.
That’s a really dumb name. xD

But new Tales either way. So– woop

  • I just remember that Tales of Innocence and Tales of Hearts were trademarked in the DS era, yet still not being localized. They seem to exist til this day. Guess this early trademark doesn’t guarantee an early localization or even if it will exist. Still with how Xillia performed lately and Symphonia HD along Xillia 2 coming next year, I hope it’s a good sign.

    • Ladius

I think they preemptively trademark them regardless, in order to avoid potential issues if they decide to localize. Both Innocence and Hearts were trademarked two times, for the original DS versions and the Vita remakes, and I think the latter games had a chance before Vita’s sales figure discouraged Namco to go any further. Considering the support for Hearts R and Innocence R in #jrpgvita, though, maybe they could have a chance in the future.

  • Arcana Wiz

yeah,of all the names zestiria it was of the ones that were more tales like, but i’ts kinda strange when the last three mothership games rhyme, xillia, xillia 2 and zestiria.

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

      Do those rhyme?

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    So Zesty

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

  • $61526767

We shall see the reveal very soon.. but still, i like the name though. I hope we can receive the handheld titles on the Vita.

    • brian

I thought all games on that system were handheld?

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I think Jordan’s sentiment is that Innocence R and Hearts R get a western release.

    • Bec66

Well if Vita sales improve and people campaign hard enough.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

kinda hope its a wii-u or 3DS game.

    • Wappuli

That would be really bad for me as I would like to play it in Japanese and English, and the idea of buying 2 wii-u’s isn’t excatly tempting.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        Everyone can wish, can’t they?

        • Wappuli

          Of course.

      • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

        Then be patient
beside we gonna Xenoblade 2 in 2014 and SMT x FE sometine in the future.

        • Wappuli

  • awat

    hope its not for Smartphones..

  • MrRobbyM

R.I.P. Tales of Zesty Doritos. You’ll still live on in our hearts.

  • Mmmmmmm, this Tales sounds Zesty =^_^=

    • personablaze

That avatar + the way i read that…lol

      where is it from btw?

      • As Ni said, Watamote lol =)

    • CirnoLakes

Tomoko is hoping for her some bishounen.

  • Bec66

I was kind of hoping that Tales of Favorites would be an HD re-master of older tales games we never got, but this is even better!

  • the_rain

I already finished ToX but what is xillia in tales of xillia? If my question even make sense.

    • Bec66

Really the tales titles hardly have to do with the game in question like in tales of Symphonia, nothing called Symphonia
Tales of the Abyss, The Abyss isn’t even a thing in the game that’s important and you might not even realize it was mentioned in the game.
Although in tales of Vesperia there is a star called Vesperia and the party names their guild after it.

      • Zero Shift

Here’s my take on the names:

        *Spoilers I suppose*

Symphonia = Symphony, as in how the two worlds, Tethe’alla and Sylvarant, lived in symphony.

Legendia, been a while since I finished it, but I want to go on a limb and say it’s simply a play on the word “Legend”. If I recall, the story was pretty heavy on legends and such of ancient civilizations/ruins due to the setting.

Vesperia is the star above poster mentioned and the guild that gets named after it. Nothing too significant there.

        Graces I have no clue.

Abysss is the abyss created by Van/Luke at Akzeriuth? Or maybe the underworld where Yulia City resides.

Xillia I haven’t finished yet, so I’m not sure what significance the name has.

        • Zendervai

The phrase is “Lived in Harmony”. I could see that confusion though for a non-english speaker.

Most of the names have nothing to do with the games they are linked to.

  • Milla

More like Tales of Fans hysteria…

  • Zonder88

    Tales of Zesti….ria.

The story better be about delicious food!

  • SpecDotSign

I know they haven’t announced platforms yet, and it’s highly unlikely but, PS4 PLZ! BibleThump

  • EggmaniMN

Zest huh? FINALLY a Tales game starring Wonder Chef!

  • Zertiria sounds better than Zestoria, at least.

    • CirnoLakes

  • Kevi Johnson-el

I wasn’t really a tales fan till I played Xillia now I’m hyped to see what this one is about

  • CirnoLakes

Ah, this is going to take some getting used to.
But I’m just wanting another Tales game. One that isn’t a sequel. So I’m really happy to hear of them being on the cusp of another entry.

  • Ric Vazquez

I don’t care what rare name they give it so long as the game makes it to the west, I think a lot of you will agree with me, probably…

  • cj may

TGS reveal or i’m thinking ahead to soon, i mean there’s gonna be over 50+ games shown this year!.
