The Legend of Zelda Equipment Will Be Available In Monster Hunter 4

By Sato . September 8, 2013 . 4:34am

While Mario and Luigi will be appearing in the form of Felyne costumes, Monster Hunter 4 will also feature Hunter costumes based on the Hyrulian hero, Link, from The Legend of Zelda series.

The costumes will features Link’s famous green tunic, along with a Master Sword and Hylian Shield as Monster Hunter 4’s Sword and Shield weapon. Meanwhile, long-range attackers will have access to Link’s bow and arrows, as their long-ranged weapon.

The Zelda set will be available via download, details of which will be announced at a later date. Monster Hunter 4 will be released on September 14 for Nintendo 3DS.

Guess who’s copying who now :-P

      …who was copying who originally?

      • Carlos Luis Ayala

        Everybody XD

    • NewestType

I have no gripes with nintendo. But when other companies tend to use this same marketing tool, users instantly label them as milking the original product.

      • Suicunesol

In their defense, Nintendo doesn’t do it very often at all.

        • NewestType

This is definitely true. I appreciate the characters so I actually enjoy it. But being honest, I am a fiend for anything crossover so I like when many companies do it.

      • ronin4life

Nintendo gets it when they make any game featuring any of their characters.

    • PreyMantis

      Who?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Stop being a troll, man. Your comments on other sites are the same way, too, so I know this isn’t like a one-time thing. Don’t do it again. Warned.

    • http://www.senran-international.boards.net/ TwinTails

What could you possibly mean by that?

  • Vash bane

there is a lot of these now days lol

    cool though :)

  • Link

Funny thing is, this is gonna help the Zelda series more than the Monster Hunter series, in Japan of course. In Europe and the States this will definitely boost Monster Hunter awareness/sales. Win-Win no matter where you go.

    • Shuga Suenaga

      pretty clever indeed

  • Ixbran

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE <<<<3333

  • $36487238

I wouldn’t be surprised if they feature Zelda costumes too. Didn’t Monster Hunter Portable 3rd have Big Boss and The Boss as costumes? Hihihiih…

    • 하세요

I believe males had Big Boss and females had The Boss. In the trailer during this Nintendo Direct, both the male and female hunters both used Link’s Tunic so I don’t think they’ll have a Zelda outfit for the female hunters.

I hope they add SFX changes when you have the whole outfit, like how they switched the encounter SFX to the infamous “!” in MGS with the Big / The Boss full set on.

  • 하세요

I pray this isn’t Low Rank gear, or at least can be upgraded.

Edit: It would also be cool if they had a red and blue tunic variation to resist Fire and Water, respectively.

    • Andrés Ortiz Ozeta

i think it would be best if you could choose the color of the entire armor if you have the high-rank/G-rank version

    • Asura

The best gear is the kind that looks amazing but is awful stats-wise. Forces you to be a boss in your gameplay.

  • Ferofax

I wanna see a Mii DLC. I wonder how it would look like if your hunter looked like your Mii.

…or an MH minigame as part of the Streetpass Plaza Mii games.

  • SlickRoach

Man, they got the costume spot on! As if I wasn’t hyped enough for this game!

  • XypherCode

    Ha! I knew it! XD

  • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

In one word: AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME,AWESOME!
Errr, i think i got a little excited.

I just hope it’s strong. I hate when the DLC is awesome, but it’s damage is worthless.

    • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

Don’t even joke like that! This will be my permanent gear. How can I progress in the game when it sucks?

      • BigLord

You never wear “Permanent gear” in Monster Hunter anyway. If you do, you’re not playing it right. Different monsters, different gear.

        • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

True, but I do tend to favor Great Jaggi and Rathalos armour for most hunts. The only time I change them is when the armour’s weakness would kill me.

          • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

Before 3U i used to play like that, in Protable3 my favorite was alatreon and Silver Rath sets.
Now I already filled all the slots in the registered equipments, and i still want the Lucent Narga one. xD

          • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

Yeah, the collector in me tends to get every armour of monsters that interest me and there’s SOO MANY! Yet I only use a select few. xD

  • Unsigned Artist Suicide Help

    Soo cool

  • Tom_Phoenix

It’s kind of sad that MH4 looks more like a Zelda game than the actual recent Zelda games.

    • Ethan_Twain

What do you want from The Legend of Zelda that this game looks like but modern installments do not provide?

    • Kaihedgie

      No

    • Dylan Neill

“Legend of Zelda games don’t look like Legend of Zelda games” what.

    • Suicunesol

Cosmetics aren’t what define the LOZ series.

Its gameplay is what defines it, and that has been consistent, for better or for worse, across the entire series.

  • Ban The Jackass

    Okay, much better.

  • Chaos_Knight

    I knew it! I KNEW IT! :D

  • NintendoPSX

I can dig seeing Link murdering and skinny monsters. I’m game.

  • Namuro

What a nice collaboration! It’s great to see an iconic character (technically, just a costume, though LOL) like that in there. It’d be great if CAPCOM can add some more Nitendo costumes in the future, like Samus’s Power Suit or something like that!

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

So, what will the Materials be for crafting that gear? And which Rank does this fall into? Honestly, if they are going for LoZ stuff, they should go the extra mile by adding at least 3 Monsters based on three popular Boss Monsters from the series!

    • 하세요

A king sized Bulldrome dealing lethal damage sounds appropriate for the occasion. Call it “Beast from Another Realm!” or something all….witty and whatnot.

    • NintendoPSX

      Its DLC

      • 하세요

All armor and weapons in DLC form are obtained via quests. You get one key piece then 2~3 other materials from other monsters or mining points. It’s never just handed to you. Ever.

  • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

Now I can dress as my video game character in MH O30. Hopefully we get other Link tunics. Can wait to see the skill set.

  • https://twitter.com/BinksFrost Binks5

    mmm that sns

    • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

      Your icon is beastly!

      • https://twitter.com/BinksFrost Binks5

        thanks

  • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

I loved how the “Link” with the SnS was a female hunter. Link is so bishi only women can properly pull him off. Anyways, I’m not an SnS user but have dying to try out the Bow. This will definitely make me finally get around to it. I never understood why they didn’t do this with Tri or 3U. I am glad they finally got around to it.

  • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

This is unlikely to happen but for other weapons they could use

Oni Link’s sword as a great sword
    Biggorons sword as a Ls
Megaton hammer, skullhammer, or magic hammer as a hammer
Double hookshots that resemble dual blades
Canni of Pacci as an insect staff

Guns that resemble Samus arm cannon

Not sure about lance and gunlance

    • zeta

      lance would be this one?

      • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

        Suit up?

  • roozbeh_bnnd2

    NICE

  • Suicunesol

    That bow is pretty boss.

    • ronin4life

I main LongSword and Bow. So yes, I too think this bow is the “Boss”.

      &[]&//

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        So do I ^_^

        But I hope S&S gets a buff in MH4 to use :D

  • linkenski

This is the True Legend of Zelda for 3DS!

  • linkenski

I hope they market it with this when it’s eventually announced for an overseas release. It will attract plenty of new players. A lot of people still consider MH to be a B-franchise because they haven’t given it a chance.

    • 하세요

I don’t feel the marketing is the problem – it sells pretty well over here. The franchise itself is just not something for everyone.

      - tough learning curve
      - hours upon hours of killing the same monster just to get that one Mantle / Ruby / Skyemerld etc. with a 1% chance to drop
      - can be solo’d but still not completely solo friendly endgame

I had about 4 friends who gave it a shot and only 1 stuck with it. The rest said it’s a great game, just don’t have the time to invest into it as it’s not a game you can just pick up and play and expect progress overnight.

      • ronin4life

Not to mention the bad reputation it has… Early games on ps2 and psp were not treated very well by many reviewers.
Hell, were it not for the whole Nintendo exclusivity thing, most western Gamers would still think little more than “Lol, it’s that shitty game Japanese love so much…”

        • J_Joestar

yeah, now it also has the “It would sell like gangbusters on other system so why Nintendo exclusive?”

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Yo thats endgame shiz

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

About time! now I’m going to do a lets play Legend of Zelda: The curse of Goa Magara

    • Namuro

They can have a felyne in the place of Navi!

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        NYAN Link watch out

      • SetzerGabbiani

        Listnyan!

      • 하세요

And I will be first to shoot it straight at Hungry Deviljho in their fancy new cannons.

  • GriffithOfTheHawk

I hope they won’t release MH 4 in the West but a G version later. I don’t mind waiting for it the 3DS has too many games already.

  • Barrylocke89

10 bucks says that if (hopefully WHEN) this game comes out in the West, places like Gamestop will use the LoZ Equipment as a pre-order bonus, especially if you normally have to pay for the items with real cash in MH4.

    • 하세요

All Monster Hunter DLC has been free, at least since Portable 3rd. Pretty sure it was always free though. We get a new DLC quest (sometimes more than one) every single week, as well as guild card goodies and even in-game currency.

Capcom may be known for charging debatable prices for all other franchises, but if there’s one section that doesn’t charge for DLC at all, it’s the Monster Hunter branch.

      • British_Otaku

        That’s a pretty good record…

I knew that Monster Hunter was one of the only series that Capcom still have had a good record in general with no egregious DLC policies or drops in service and quality of the game experience.

I would import Monster Hunter 4 if I was more into that series (only played the 3DS demo for 3 Ultimate a bunch of times) on that basis… >_>

        • 하세요

Here’s just Portable 3rd’s DLC Quest list alone. Spanned for just about a year on the dot. Didn’t cost a dime: http://www.mhf3.com/page/Download+Quests

From Metal Gear Solid to Inuyasha to felynes wielding keyblades…all there. As epic as this LoZ set is, it’s not TOO surprising if you’re a long-time fan of the series as they’ve had even more obscure collabs in their gear / weapons.

          • British_Otaku

I was aware of Metal Gear and Monster Hunter being best friends in Peacewalker and Portable 3rd but even Detective Conan? >_> My wallet hand is getting loose.

Portable 3rd owners got a real treat, usually if you hear of a company supporting a game post launch(which in turn should lead to even more people encouraging friends to get the game too for multiplayer titles like this), it’s a Season Pass telling you prices without telling you what you are getting or proving their worth.

I hope this game gets that kind of service, even if the anime/manga license stuff might not make it out of Japan.

I may pick up Portable 3rd if I get my PSP working again. It’s brilliant that people have the files up on the internet for people to get them in case the store goes down too…

          • 하세요

MH3U is still getting weekly DLC quests (in NA/EU, as Japan had it for years now but still lasted a good year) with various weapons, gear and even masks for Cha-Cha and Kayamba. If there are licensing issues they try their best to bypass it, such as removing the official title for said gear with something more generic or swapping the design but keeping the same stats / effects so we still don’t miss out on the key reasoning for using these sets.

MH4 will be just as juicy with DLC collabs. Many do not realize how freakin’ huge this franchise is in Japan, but I’m sure the article a few days ago about 1mil pre-orders ready to go should open some eyes.

          • Touma

you’re kiddin me! inuyasha! thats freaking epic! slashin through monsters with the tetseiga.

  • ギャビン

    That is pretty cool.

  • Gohobojoe

Huh. This is probably one of the few DLCs that will remain intact when it gets released in the west.

  • SetzerGabbiani

    lss -0vaq30jiwqfe0SADFASDFASRW34Evn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

…..This has to come westward now. That Link costume is spot on…hopefully there is a G-Rank version.

  • $36598391

any news on when this is coming to NA?

    • 하세요

I doubt we’ll get news any time soon. It’s way too early to announce a new MH for us, especially in the same year where a new one has been released. This isn’t CoD folks – they span these games out.

    • Spider-Man

It’s not even out in Japan yet. Be patient.

  • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

Right, now you’ve gone and done it, Nintendo and Capcom. If MH4 doesn’t come out in English, I’ll be upset. But if MH4 does come out, but not with this Armour and Weapon set, I’ll be completely pissed off. Cause it’ll mean I have to get a Japanese 3DS and MH4. Cause if I can’t get the Zelda-themed gear, there’s no point in getting the game…ok, that’s not true, but I want it that badly…

    • zeta

this kind of nintendo x capcom collab will definitely make it in english ver. that fairy tail armors thou is a bit low chance

  • CirnoLakes

Well if this isn’t the perfect kind of fanservice.

  • Göran Isacson

… Sheik-outfit for the ladies, perhaps :3 ? That aside- that bow. I kind of want to see Link have MonHun weapons in the next Zelda game now, to just DEMOLISH his enemies with. That’d be cool.

  • dragoon_slayer12

Am I the only one that wants Capcom to do another Zelda title?

    • Ethan_Twain

I would love another Zelda title similar to the Capcom developed three, but the studio that made those doesn’t exist anymore. Some key staffers were picked up by Nintendo afterwards though. Skyward Sword was directed by an ex-Capcom Zelda guy.

On the up side, the wall sliding mechanic in Link to two Worlds is giving me flashbacks to Minish Cap in all the best ways.

    • ShadowDivz

      Which one were those again?

      • ronin4life

        Minish Cap and Oracles.

They also did the LttP GBA port and the 4 Swords that came with it.

  • Tonton Ramos

    Green Tunic that is all…

  • Ben Sylvia

    Admittedly that’s kinda neat.

Still not interested in Monster Hunter though.

  • Oliver Teigaga

This just makes me want a new 3d, 3DS zelda..

  • chibiwall

there are a lot of news… why a useless cameo is still on top? ._.
