Mighty Switch Force 2 On Wii U Will Look Different From The First Game

By Robert Ward . September 9, 2013 . 9:30am

WayForward Technologies original released Mighty Switch Force for the Nintendo 3DS and eventually brought an HD version of the game to the Wii U. Then, they created Mighty Switch Force 2 for 3DS, but plans to bring this game to Wii U didn’t exist… at least, not initially.

“On Miiverse, the Mighty Switch Force community has been very vocal about bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U,” WayForward’s James Montagna shared with Siliconera at PAX Prime.

“We had no intentions of bringing it to the Wii U, originally. [Mighty Switch Force: Hyperdrive Edition] was an experiment, something we just wanted to try out—but [because of feedback] we are bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U. We caved.”

Additionally, Montagna shared, Mighty Switch Force 2 on the Wii U won’t be exactly like the first game. “It’s a pixel version of the game with high-definition interstitial screens, so it won’t be quite like Hyperdrive Edition or anything like that,” he revealed to us, adding that WayForward hope to have the game out in October.

Montagna also shared some insight into Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse with us, when we spoke. You can read about that game here.

Why not just get a kickstarter going? that seems to be all the rage these days

    • AkuLord3

but they already got Shantae game there…

    • komiko12

I don’t know. It feels like we are paying for something we would also buy eventually. It would be better if those who paid for the kickstarter would get the game for free if they paid enough.

      • Rytan

That’s what most kickstarters offer, isn’t it?

      • Herok♞

Thats the way Shantae was, if you put $12 down(for the first thousand pledgers) or $15 you bought your copy of the game

      • My Little endy

        You just, essentially, defined Kickstarter.

I’m glad they’re sticking with pixels this time. It pays to wait.

  • LOVED the first game, still haven’t played the second. How’s it compare to the original?

    • My Little endy

If you like the first you’ll like the second. Only real difference in mechanics is the fire hose, which lets you put out fires in your way. The longer you hold the button the further it shoots.
Also, in every level now is an ugly baby you can save as an extra goal. They can be devilishly hard to get to. Other than that, same fantastic game, different occupation.

I wrote an article a while back about just that, if you’d like to give it a read. http://www.siliconera.com/2013/06/19/mighty-switch-force-2-think-on-your-feet/

Mighty Switch Force 1 and 2 HD are the only reasons I’d even want a Wii U right now, and I already have both of those on 3DS. How I wish there was a PC version for both…but I guess I’ll just get a Wii U eventually.
