Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram Is For Vita From DBZ Developer

By Spencer . September 10, 2013 . 5:51pm

madokaDragon Ball: Battle of Z developer Artdink and Namco Bandai are developing a Madoka Magica for consoles. Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram was announced for PlayStation Vita slated for release this winter. The game will be a 3D action game. Stay tuned for more details.

Update: Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram has an original storyline, which the Magica Quartet supervised.

The game is split into two parts. During the day, you can have conversations and bond with characters. At night, you fight witches and the bond with your partner changes depending on your performance in battle.

Madoka Kaname is playable and her weapon is a bow of light. When Madoka is in a pinch Kyubey can assist her. Homura Akemi has the power to control time. Marie Tomoe is a long range fighter that can tie up enemies using her ribbons. Sayaka Miki is the opposite, a short range fighter that uses a sword. Sayaka’s edge is she’s quick and powerful. Kyoko Sakura has a spear so she’s a short to middle distance fighter.

Correction: Famitsu corrected their article and now say Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram is for PlayStation Vita.

    This sounds really interesting.

I have no idea how a meguca action game will look, the PSP dungeon crawl was pretty interesting looking too.

If anything, this sounds like a fighting-y game.

Edit: And oh hey! They made Carnage Hearts!

    • Tre W

Artdink being involved means it likely will be a 3D action game with Vs. aspects in the mix.

I only wonder how there was enough of Artdink to go around to work on this as WELL as the Dragon Ball game. Both PS3 projects.

  • Mental

This is…quite out of the blue.

  • Kayseur

The PSP dungeon crawler was fine, but I have always been longing for an action game, given how the girls fought in the anime, it just fitted them more.
Hopefully it won’t just be a quick cheap game merely made because the 3rd movie is coming though.

Anyhow, I don’t want to get too excited about it, but still can’t help being so a bit. Maybe we’ll get a teaser or something at the TGS, that’d be pretty cool.

Edit : Saw the news update, sounds good so far. What will settle it will be gameplay videos though.

  • Sapitntapit

    Persona Magi Madoka Magica

    • mojack411

Exactly what I was thinking lol.

    • Alberto Maytorena

I was about to post exactly that.

  • GoopLord

    Cool, i hope it’s good

  • Miki

Marie Tomoe? How did “Mami” end up being “Marie”?
Anyway, Is cool seing a Madoka game for home consoles, even if it’s only for Ps3

    • Laith Rem

      4kids censoring. =V

      • fireguardiancoty

        • Kaitsu

          He’s joking. It’s a typo.

          • raitouniverse

I dunno, Mami = Mammary = NSFW. Sounds like a standard 4kids hack job in the works.

          • Sadly… It does doesn’t it…

          • Miki

You could also see it as Mami= Mommy= mom (?) And mami in spanish is exactly that

      • Astrotrain

        Your kidding , right? ….right?

        • DyLaN

          Its a meme reference.

      • Marcelo G

        Cake Planet stage confirmed?

  • Jesse

3D Madoka Magica battles? Yes please.

  • neocatzon

    Artdink? We can trust them.

  • Niyari

could it be.. a proper madoka game!?

    • anarchy_panty

Go play Grief Syndrome. You’ll thank me later.

      • Seraph

        Obligatory screenshot of said game.

  • Brandonmkii

I’m already anticipating the inevitable Limited bundle with figma.

  • Alestaos

Please Make it to the West the Anime was fantastic! And so glad a game is being released for it :’)

  • Leon_Tekashi

Chances of this getting localized…*Looks at NISA with puppy dog eyes*

    • kurbstar

actually, I see it as a good chance. Warner Bros is distributing the 3rd movie, so Magica Quartet already has a connection with a american video game distributor

    • Renaldi Saputra

Namco Bandai doesn’t allow third-parties like NISA, XSeed, Aksys, or else.. Except if this game will be like Toki to Towa for the owning case..

  • GHAmer

the chance of this game getting localized is quite high I think
the movie itself is airing worldwide

    • Auvers

isn’t it going to be select screenings and limited release in the US theaters though? I doubt we’ll see posters and commercials for this all over the place.

      • kurbstar

yeah, it will be limited. Probably around 50 theaters at the absolute max.

        • Will John

It’s being distributed by WB so it’ll probably be the most theaters any anime movie has ever gotten in the US.

          • Lynx

            Ghibli movies.

          • kurbstar

Interestingly, WB’s only other anime they distributed in theaters were the Pokemon movies, which were very wide releases.

Just because a big name distributor is doing it, doesn’t mean it will get a wide release.

      • GHAmer

the 1st & 2nd movie is aired in: US, France, Italy, Republic of San Marino, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore
and yesterday the movie also aired in anime festival in my country (Indonesia)
I dunno about the 3rd movie, but they already saying that it will be airing wolrdwide

        • bVork

The first two movies also aired here in Canada.

      • Lynx

        It was limited.
        Very limited.

I’d say the Eva Rebuild movies had a wider screening than the Madoka films.

        • Repede91

The small number is justified I guess. My friend and I were lucky enough to see 2.22 at a theatre in Atlanta and we were the only people in the audience.

    • Renaldi Saputra

but it’s Namco Bandai.. I doubt, even if it’s so popular..
and Madoka isn’t Naruto, DBZ, or One Piece which usually got localized

  • I can feel all the death already lol

  • universalperson

Curious how they don’t mention the new character that was revealed about a week ago.

    …maybe that’s why.

  • Suicunesol

I thought Mami used guns? What’s with the bondage ribbons?

    • Miki

Mami’s original magic are ribbons. She later learned how to make guns from them

      • Suicunesol

Was that in the anime? o_o

        • Miki

She uses her ribbons to stop Gertrude and make the tiro Finale. She uses ribbons to stop Homura after entering the Charlot maze.

Mami wish to save her life allowed her the power to “tie things” that’s why she uses the ribbons. Magi was quite experienced, she learned how to transform her ribbons into guns.

Similar to how illusions was Kyouko magic, but she later learned how to do barriers

          • Suicunesol

I see. Guess I need to watch it again.

          • DyLaN

I think the wish details are frm the production book/manual/something. But she def used ribbons to restraint things in the anime.

          • Zak Ledward

If you play the PSP and choose Mami’s story it tells you (well…shows you more like it) how/why she got her powers.

    • They’re what she restrained Homura with when going to face Charlotte. They’re also seen during one of Homura’s flashbacks when they’re facing the Leg Witch (not sure what it’s name is).

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Don’t…lose your head over this

  • sylontack

    I need this.

  • TrueDefault

Never heard of Artdink, still, gonna buy this game no matter what!

  • Go2hell66

This sounds awesome! now what are the chances of an english release?

    • Renaldi Saputra

      it’s Namco Bandai.. I don’t think so..
but, there’s still chance too, though

      • Go2hell66

Clearly you havent been keeping up with the news, have you how many anime games are getting localised by namco this year?

        • Renaldi Saputra

I know, but Namdai only focus on shounen-type game (DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, Saint Seiya) except Toriko..

I assume this as a niche title of Namdai, despite of its big popularity

        • DyLaN

Which anime game? I don’t remember any anime game tht I have my eye on is getting localized…..

          • Go2hell66

see below post + Project X Zone and Tales of course

          • DyLaN

PxZ and Tales don’t count as game that is based on anime series aka anime games.

          • Renaldi Saputra

            nah, that’s what I meant

          • Renaldi Saputra

Madoka has the same level as Vividred Operation, Magi, etc

project X Zone is likely namco vs capcom characters
so it doesn’t have anime spin-off game related thing

    • Nitraion

      If they localize this..
we better get Madoka magica costume in ToX 2

  • JNT

I hope this game rocks, I’ve been wanted a Madoka game like this for a while

  • Zak Ledward

If this is a 3D hack ‘n’ slash or anything similar to that and not turned based like the PSP game then I’m importing this.

Not saying that I didn’t like the PSP game, just want a more free game that allows us to pull off badass shit (yes I did play Grief Syndrome)

    • Renaldi Saputra

it’s said action, so probably it’s a TPS action RPG..

      • Zak Ledward

TPS would be awesome. I just hope they actually show how amazing the universe of PMMM is and give all the characters their actual abilities and weapons. I swear if I can’t Tiro Finale as Mami or Grand God Arrow with Madoka I’m going to be very sad.

Though that’d be interesting if it was FPS, wonder how that’d work xD

  • GHAmer

this news says that this game is for Vita:
I think siliconera make a mistake here

    • Seraph

Doesn’t one of the scans clearly say PS3 on it?

      • GHAmer

in the first scan, there is a little blue text that says it was for Vita
I don’t know what ps3 means in the third scan though
        maybe it was for both….

    • Kefkiroth

One scan says Vita, though another says PS3. Maybe both.

      • leingod

        I’m cool either way :D

      • Zak Ledward

I see the luminous shot right there on the right side of the first picture *//3//*

        I want to Luminous Everday!

        • DyLaN

          Lumi-nasu? :P

          • Zak Ledward

While the idea of getting Homura’s hand-raised Eggplants is VERY tempting, I would prefer the luminous clip tyvm

  • Maria Garcia

wait a second…some scans says ps3 and some vita……which one is it then???

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I think you meant to say “Artdink, developer of Notam of Wind”.

Did you luxuriate in the wind?

  • kroufonz

hope this something related to third movie so i can play as nagisa

next a nanoha 3d game please bamco!

    • GHAmer

there is already nanoha 3d battle game for psp

      • kroufonz

i mean to say console game

  • chibiwall

Please VITA…. I’ve finished grief syndrome some like 199 times, I would import 3 of this game if it’s happening

  • Kyosuke Yoshino

Another source says this won’t be on PS3, rather on VITA.
I wonder which one is true.

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

Don’t know if I’ll get to play this game but yes!!!!!! more vita games

  • chibiwall

I’m crying happiness, go VITA go…
Someone should serious tweet everyone for a localization, I’d buy it anyway, but I’d prefer know what I’m doing

  • ZekeFreek

I’m still really confused on any spin-off stuff from this series makes any sense given it’s ending…

    • DyLaN

Well, since Homura traveled a lot of timeline so the video games, Oriko manga, The Different Story manga are all kinda sorta canon since they all different ver of the timelines.

Kazumi Magica is a stand alone title that can take place in any timeline.
