This week’s issue of CoroCoro magazine reveals that Youkai Watch, Level-5’s ghost raising RPG featuring protagonists with the ability to communicate with spirits, is getting a new title. The magazine does not specify whether it will be a sequel or an enhanced version of the game.

CoroCoro magazine is currently holding a contest for fans to come up with a new version of the cat-like creature, known as Jibanyan. The magazine confirms that the winner of the contest will have their Jibanyan appear in the game’s next title.

While the new Youkai Watch game could be a sequel, it could also be a continuation of the title, as we’ve also seen other Level-5 titles get enhanced versions, such as their popular Nintendo 3DS RPG, Fantasy Life Link, which introduced more network features to the original game.

Level 5 released the first Youkai Watch game just weeks ago, and the title has gone on to sell consistently week after week in Japan. An anime series is scheduled to air in Japan in early 2014, with a manga series coming before it in December.

Level 5 would you mind getting both of those series over here in the west by the end of 2014 please?

      maybe after professor layton comes

More like Ni No Kuni 2

      Why the downvotes?
Its battle system is identical to the DS version of Ninokuni, and even for those who only got the PS3 version, they can relate, just the catch-’em-all aspect is still there.
The story and the music isn’t really similar, but this game boosts some high bg art quality standards.

Pretty fast whether it is a sequel, enhanced version or something else even I was expecting a successor some sort. Chances are the sequel will sell really well with the 3DS install base growing and an anime getting word out.

I hope this is an enhanced version that the West will start off with. >_>

Do you think we’ll get in the West? I totally forgot about Youkai Watch and how desperate I was for localization.

It sold pretty well, it should be pretty easy for Level 5 to market worldwide (not next month when Pokemon’s out, but next year there is a chance) and it isn’t focused on a sport that America hates or something… >_>

It’s got a better chance than Time Travelers and Inazuma Eleven (somehow, even if that’s a massive franchise).

I’m mostly worried about if this is a sequel, we start with the sequel and never get the original title.

I’m happy to hear more about these fan-input contests. I don’t know if this has just been a recent trend or if Silliconera has been doing more coverage of these lately. Either way, it’s cool to see more interaction between the devs and the people.

    So cool :D

Maybe with the sales this game has gotten, the second entry will sell more on launch just like Inazuma Eleven Fire/Blizzard did.

Love Level-5′s games, just a shame so few are released outside of Japan. At this point I’ve given up on Fantasy Life getting getting a western release, though I would still definitely buy it if they localized the updated version. I don’t see Youkai watch getting localized anytime soon if they haven’t even bothered with Fantasy Life.

Don’t give up on Fantasy Life. :( We gotta keep believing in both! Nintendo is crazy not to localize it. I don’t know if they’re just biding their time or what.

Level- 5, why don’t we have this game?!

  • Suicunesol

Was it a good idea for L5 to announce this? If this is an enhanced release, then it might deter people from buying the original game which is currently selling at a constant pace.

…or it could coincide with the anime releasing in a few months.

Please bring this over Level 5, along with Fantasy Life ;-; They look so goood…

  • Will Jay

Hoping myself it’ll be a sequel and not an updated re-release, L5 really needs to tone down on them.

I haven’t played the original game yet. I dunno if I wanna pick it up or not sometime soon, if I got it off the eShop it’d probably keep me occupied a week or two until other things I’m more interested in come out.
