This Is Why Pokémon Bank Exists. Pokémon Black/White Still Seeing DLC

By Eugene . September 17, 2013 . 4:05pm

Although Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are set to release in less than a month, The Pokémon Company is still supporting the previous set of games with Pokémon distributions. The most recent distribution in Japan is a special Sableye.

Sableye is a male Dark, Ghost type Pokemon and comes with Trick, Tickle, Foul Play and Octazooka already learned and at level 50. That makes it a primarily debuffing Pokemon that’s able to pull some stunts off by stealing enemy items for use or bashing bigger bullies down with Foul Play.

Owners of Japanese versions of Pokemon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 can download Sableye from Japanese Pokemon Centres now until September 28th.

The interesting thing is that now, with the advent of the upcoming Pokémon Bank cloud service, you’ll be able to transfer the Pokémon you’ve collected in the Black/White games over to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. For this reason, it makes sense for Pokémon Co. to keep supporting the previous lot of games, even this close to the launch of the new generation.

Still not an excuse for not including an in-game transfer tool, then again we don’t know yet :

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

You get the first month free anyway

      • Yep, and have to pay a simple $5 for the next 12 months after. Now THAT’S expensive!

        • SlickRoach

If it was Capcom I’d complain about it being a cheap, pointless, money-grabbing payment, but it’s Pokemon so my inner fanboy is ok with it.

        • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

          LOL wut
that like paying for PS4 PlayStation Plus

          • Corginand

            $5 per year, not month

          • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

            yeah i know

        • Oh no, I don’t think I can afford that… waiting for F2P.

      • Godman

And this is where peace is restored :)
I’m just going to to have all 649 Pokemon prepared to transfer when it comes out

      • Bobby Jennings

        Should be free all around.

        • Herok♞

I don’t think you would want to pay for severs for millions of players.

          • Bobby Jennings

if its only $5 a year, must be easy enough to keep up.

          • Herok♞

but would you rather have millions of people $5 for the use of the servers if you were running it would you rather pay out of pocket?

          • Bobby Jennings

I’d rather pay out of pocket(if I were in their shoes). To charge people for something we had for free is lame.

        • Arrei

Servers cost money, so either you pay a minimal fee or the service hosts ads, and I don’t think the latter option is available for something like this.

          • InfectedAI

Or Game Freak could release a way to transfer over locally like they’ve been doing for a decade.

    • Kaitsu

How would that go about? You can’t stick two games in at the same time compared to Original DS and DS Lite. So honestly, this is a great option.

      • Godman

Are you forgetting transferring pokemon between IV and V and between Black2 White2? It was wireless

        • mboodle

That’s still DS to DS. 3DS games cannot communicate directly with DS games because of how heavily Nintendo sandboxed the 3DS’s DS mode. That’s also the reason they need to use external servers to store the pokemon, because DS didn’t have an SD card slot.

          • Armane

Except DQ Monsters handles it just fine, so there is no reason Pokémon shouldn’t be able to do the same.

    • NintendoPSX

Clearly you haven’t looked at the official Pokemon XY website where it explicitly states that there’s two different 3DS applications. One called PokeTransfer Tool and Pokemon Bank. Guess which one you use to put them into Pokemon Bank to put into X & Y?

      • Godman

What does that have to do with an in-game transfer tool?
        PokeTransfer still needs PokeBank

    • Bobby Jennings

      I feel you bro.

    • InfectedAI

We do know. There is no in game transfer tool. This is it.

    • CS

thank you they better do that cause im not paying to store pokemon

  • Detrimont

    mega sableye confirmed

    • zaidandzhadow

      more likely

    • AuraGuyChris

Or, you know, a plain normal evolution.

  • Margaret Chan

I’m really hoping that Pokemon Bank can transfer eggs :3

    • Luke

I’m mixed, I want it to transfer eggs but I have a bad habit of stockpiling eggs and then forgetting whats in them.

      • Margaret Chan

I have a stockpile of eggs in SoulSilver that I THINK are starters… but I don’t remember. >_> I’d just hatch them all!

        • Luke

          but there is soooo many

  • VenerableSage

Now if only Poke Transporter let you use the other DS games instead of just B/W/B2/W2.

    • Margaret Chan

I’m scrambling through Black just so I can get my pokemon from SoulSilver to X in some way or form. :(

      • VenerableSage

I’m not even going to bother going to that extent – I’ll just borrow a buddy’s copy of Gen V, purchase Bank (or use the free trial), and mule them over that way.

Still it’s extremely disappointing that they couldn’t have included the Gen IV games. They run on the same system, and it’s not like there was huge file structure differences between the generations.

Someone suggested to me that maybe it was the fact that the Gen V games were DSi/3DS-Enhanced, but I still don’t think that that should have made much of a difference. I think it’s more the case that Game Freak expects people to fork over $40 every generation just for new Pokemon and new regions, despite what amounts to basically the same overall plot outline, i.e. if you’re not buying games from them every single time they’re released, you’re not spending enough money for them to consider you important.

  • Ben Sylvia

Sableye for next Mega Evolution XD

    • J_Joestar

well Sableye and Mawile are sort of like counterparts so it isn’t impossible, although then you look at someone like pinsir…

      • Steven Higgins

That’s just because Pinsir is unpopular. The same reason he never got an evolution even though Scyther did.

  • MattDaemon

Sable eye have no weakness, but he was weak, overall stats wise..

    • komiko12

In Gen VI, Sableye, along with Spiritomb, will be weak to Fairy.

      • J_Joestar

Soon the evil reign of WonderEye and WonderTomb will end. even though you normally wouldn’t encounter them outside of local gameplay with a hacker.

    • KuroRyuu913

In certain teams, he was a perfect Staller. Well not perfect, but a good staller.
