Sega Dream Will Take Over Atlus’ Parent Company Index Corporation

By Spencer . September 18, 2013 . 1:23am

atlusIt’s official—Sega have acquired Index Corporation, the parent company of Atlus. Sega Dream Corporation, a new subsidiary, has been formed to handle all of Index Corporation’s business operations. Sega Dream Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sega Corporation which is a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings.

Sega has been distributing Index’s games including Shin Megami Tensei IV and Persona 4 Golden since 2012. In fact, there was a small Atlus area in Sega’s Tokyo Game Show booth last year.

The acquisition gives Sega all of Index Corporations intellectual property including Etrian Odyssey, Snowboard Kids, Shin Megami Tensei, and Persona. All of the IP was one reason Sega purchased Index. Sega also plans to leverage the Index IPs to fuel growth in the PC online game business and smartphone sectors. The company also plans to utilize Index’s IPs by making pachinko and pachislot machines, which are Sammy’s specialty. Not too surprising, since there is already a Persona 4 pachislot machine.

In honor of this news we think there should be a new mascot for Sega Dream Corporation, Segatlus Sanshiro.

So essentially, now Atlus is called Sega Dream Corp. I think they will keep the Atlus name around for a while though, just like Activision did when they acquired Infocom. It has more brand power.

  • John Diamond

Sigh. alright i won’t be sceptic of the whole mobile and pc online game part until i see what they churn out

    • Morricane

Well, another Megaten-MMO that’s better than the last one could be pretty neat actually…

      • Derek E Nay

I really REALLY wanted to get in to that… But there was no hook that kept me in :(

        • Morricane

Same here…I don’t know. I felt the battle system slugghish. I’d have been interested in seeing the storyline missions though…:(

  • Lemon

“Sega also plans to leverage the Index IPs to fuel growth in the PC online game business and smart phone sectors.”

All right, who else is expecting some Persona mobile game down the line?

    • $48552495

Yeah, I don’t like the sounds of it.

    • Considering Persona social games already exist? I expected it a long time ago.

    • JustThisOne

To be fair, I was expecting one long before the whole bankruptcy hubbub. xD The franchise has already managed to branch off in so many different ways, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. What does surprise me is how there isn’t a P4 one already.

There is a P3 one though:

    • Yuuki

this just shows how much some persona fans know about index…
you know index had a own mobile sector that produced games?
      do you?
if so you would know what they mean with this.

      • Lemon

It was a rhetorical question made mostly in jest. Did you miss that? Did you?

  • Chris Yuen

“Thou hast established a new bond…as you form a bond with Index Corp, you feel the localizing powers in your heart strengthening…”

    • amagidyne

Index Corp will now commit fraud for you in battle!

    • Don´t you mean “you feel the localizing powers in your heart weakening…” ?

I mean, PSO2, VC3 to mention two class A titles we haven´t seen outside of Japan…

      • Chris Yuen

What I meant by that was…if AtlusUSA is still around after the restructuring in November, I hope that their love for localizing titles will rub off on SEGA.

E.g SEGA can see the benefit of using AtlusUSA as another localization unit in their operational plans…to bring some of their untranslated titles over…of course, that’s what I am hoping for…a lot of us are still waiting for VC3 after all…

    • 60hz

basically dump sega of america and replace them with atlus usa and boom instant success!

  • ShinobiBrown

Hatsune Miku and Sonic cameos confirmed for Persona 5

    • CirnoLakes

And Jack Frost in the next Sonic and SEGA All-Stars racing game.

      • Virevolte

Which is pretty fine. Yo ho ho !

      • Testsubject909

Well that’d give me a reason to purchase that game.

    • Brimfyre

And Persona costumes in Phantasy Star Online

    • EisKonig

I actually would find a Miku persona pretty cool (although really weird) XD!!

  • konsama

Dunno what to think of this, Sega is known for their total lack of will to localize niche games, and most Atlus games are niche games so… :/

Another point would be how long will they totally take control of Atlus directing, or are just “saving” the ocmpany and will let them keep doing as they are right now, Atlus is one of the really few developers that hadn’t let me down in years, and then something not directly related to them had to ground em so bad.

    • Jah-keem York

Persona, and SMT are hardly niche games in America and that’s all they’ve really developed. Everything else is just published by Atlus. However I doubt we’ll ever see a game like Catherine coming over to the US now.

On the otherside we also have Atlus USA, who loves localizing games. As long as Sega doesn’t disband that or change their priorities this might even raise the chance of a Yakuza 5 localization.

Same time though Sega could easily shut down or really cut off the USA Branch from everything and in that case we are boned. But I say Atlus USA was a good move since they are more passionate about localizing then Sega America is.

      • Altritter

Catherine sold very well in NA, I think they’d be smart enough to take another risk if they made another game like it.

        • NintendoPSX

          Sega and risks? Lol funny.

          • Altritter

I prefer not to be pessimistic, and I’ve seen little evidence to suggest that the day-to-day operation of Atlus is going to change in any noticeable way. Just people jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst.

      • Tom_Phoenix

“Persona, and SMT are hardly niche games in America…”

Uh, you’re joking, right? Persona and SMT may not be as niche as some of the stuff XSEED and Aksys bring over, but they’re VERY much niche. Most SMT titles tend to sell (far) less than 100k in NA, which wouldn’t be a huge amount even in Japan, let alone a significantly larger market like NA.

    • Herok♞

To be fair if they aren’t making the money back with the games they bring over you can’t expect them to keep doing that, if Yakuza and VC were profitable for them we would see all the games but when you get down to it they brought over 5 Yakuza games already(which is a statement in itself),VC3 came out for a dead system and those usually don’t make enough to sell to expectations and PSO2 is an MMO and most people who really want to play it already patched it to do so. They just gave us Project Diva F for the love of good things I am sure they would still let Atlus do their thing because they aren’t idiots, but make smart business decisions that the consumers might not love.

    • Lynx

Best case scenario would have Sega/ Sega of America lending manpower.

      But again, best case scenario.

  • roydgriffin

I personally think Sega and Atlus suit each other well.

  • JustThisOne

Hmm, so I wonder what’s going to show up at TGS, then? :> Hopefully, there will be signs of good things to come.

  • Nas

    Valkyria chronicles X Persona…

    • AkuLord3

It was called VC2 : p (which i still enjoyed…though VC3 still has the coolest characters).

  • XiaomuArisu

    ….Is that good?

    • CirnoLakes

      Time will tell.

      Time will tell…

      • XiaomuArisu

Well in the best case we get more Games localized.
Just imagine Atlus bringing Yakuza 5 and Valkyria Chronicles oversea

        • Arcana Wiz

………….. why? i mean Sega already have localizng teams, one more one less wont make that much difference, games weren’t localized cause they wont make a profit . My positive thinking is about how sega will let atlus usa continue to localize niche games.

          • $36598391

Maybe Atlus USA will bring over
Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and
            Phantasy Star Nova

          • Will they let Atlus USA continue to localize niche games? If they couldn´t bring over a class-a title like VC3 then I don´t know what.

Or how their american division is handling the PSO2 thing right now?

Into that we throw Atlus who takes risks, localizes games that are as you said niche games and then take a look at how Sega does things? Anything other than Sonic? Hm we´re not sure if we should release this outside Japan…

But I´m being overly negative. I just don´t want to miss out on Atlus awesomeness.

          • XiaomuArisu

            Im trying to stay positive
            Lets stay ositive guys!

      • Kai2591
    • Cazar

Well it’s not as good as if they had been a direct subsidiary of Sega Sammy rather than Sega Corp., as some people (including myself) were hoping.

  • Heath Bunch

Welp… was nice knowin’ ya, Atlus. With Sega at the wheel now, will any of their games be “profitable enough” for a western localization? Cause Sega sure doesn’t give a good god damn about Valkyria Chronicles 3, Yakuza 5, or Phantasy Star Online 2….

    • Heath Bunch

I also forgot to mention them not even trying with the 7th Dragon games or the Shining games. I know some people don’t like the Shining stuff anymore, but I’d love to see more rpgs make it over…but Sega gonna Sega…

    • CirnoLakes

Hey, we did eventually get Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f out of them. There’s hope.

    • Shadow Bloodedge

The titles you mention are Sega properties, not ATLUS properties. ATLUS made it clear that anything financial (this included) will have no impact on them. ATLUS will continue to reach here because of that statement as well. B’sides, Sega helped ’em publish SMT IV, remember? I wouldn’t be surprised if the worst that happens is we gotta sit through a SEGA logo or see a SEGA copyright on an ATLUS game.

VC3 didn’t come here because of the VC2 quagmire (old VC1 fans were pissed off at the direction they took it).
It’s too soon to say for Yakuza 5 and PSO2.

    • Herok♞

They still brought over the 5 other Yakuza games regardless if they brought over 5 or not, for all we know now the reason we didn’t get 5 is because they are trying to translate the PS4 one in a reasonable time frame.

  • kangms872

oh no.. T_T my persona 5 would be out??

  • Alex Sargeant

So this is the collaboration that leads to me buying ARKS CASH in PSO2 isn’t it?

A little apprehensive about it, but the idea that an adorable version of Mara could be in the next Sega All-Stars Racing is great.

So Atlus for Skies of Arcadia 2/Remake then?

    • Morricane

Hm Jack Frost outfit for PSO2 and Persona-School-Uniforms…the possibilities! :)

      • Or they could let Atlus USA handle the localization of PSO2 so we get the game translated…

  • Sentsuizan_93

Honestly, I’m not sure how to feel about this. Only time will tell if this move was a wise decision, so I’m not gonna be the guy who’s moaning all like:
But seriously, I think it’s wise to wait and see, before making any preemptive assumptions.

  • I see this as a good thing. When Sammy bought Sega, the games made by Sega weren’t affected by Sammy. If the same will happen to Atlus games, we’ll have the very same games we have now, except with a new logo on the cover.

    • ShinobiBrown

If you want to completely ignore Sega’s habit of never bringing most of it’s eastern IPs to the west, then sure. Let’s not forget their terrible marketing for certain IPs they handle. The fate of Atlus USA makes or breaks this for the western market.

      • CirnoLakes

Most big companies are limited in bringing some of their IP to the West. Square Enix have refused to localize several games, so have Namco Bandai, so have Capcom. So have pretty much, again, any major Japanese company I can think of.

I would say that SEGA has at least a fair record when it comes to localization. Maybe not as amazing as companies like Atlus or Nippon Ichi. But certainly what I would call in the realm of reasonable.

  • Warboss Aohd

……i will admit dat outfit lookz good on Sonic.

  • Gemlit

Shin Megami Tensei vs Valkyrion Chronicles anyone?

    • British_Otaku

I want Valkyria Chronicles 3 localised before we get a crossover. >_>
Even if FE and SMT have tons of games which never made it.

  • Chaos_Knight

    So….is SMTxFE still a thing?

    • DemonShadowX

It probably still is. It’s a collaboration between Atlus and Nintendo so there’s probably a contract or something to keep Sega from interfering… Plus Sega has a fairly good relationship with Nintendo (the newest Sonic game is Nintendo exclusive) so I doubt they’d stop it.

  • RichyGaming

    Dat picture

  • “Sega also plans to leverage the Index IPs to fuel growth in the PC online game business and smartphone sectors. The company also plans to utilize Index’s IPs by making pachinko and pachislot machines, which are Sammy’s specialty”

  • Splinter

So that means… less JRPGs localized.

    • CirnoLakes

      Don’t be certain.

    • Testsubject909

Atlus USA is established here and is doing good profit.

And NISA seems to have a good relationship with Atlus for releasing/localizing their stuff over to the EU region.

  • Alicemagic

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.

    That is all.

  • MikeTxn

I assume there will be cameos and stuff from 7th Dragon in Etrian Odyssey, and EO stuff in 7th Dragon. Which is fine by me, if they actually localize a 7th Dragon game.

  • Freud_Hater

…Well, at least… the series won’t disappear, right? True, Sega has been making some pretty terrible decisions for a while, now, but… this could be good, right?

    • Testsubject909

So long as Sega opts to do as Index did, that is to say, leave Atlus to do as they wish despite having free use of the IPs for stuff like smartphone games or pachislots, then sure. It’s fine because it means Atlus can still make games.

It’s just that we’ll get some distracting news now of things like SMT The Online Browser Game or something.

  • RisukuAozora

Well, as so long as they allow Atlus USA to still exist, I say we’re fine with localizations. If that ends up being the case, I’ll be okay with our new SEGA overlords.

  • echokanon

I am worried what would happen to smaller IP like Dept Heaven…

    • Brandonmkii

Pretty sure those are owned by Sting, and Atlus USA just publishes them in north America. Unless Atlus owned sting. Then I have no idea.

      • Arcana Wiz

nop, sting is a gaming company (which is quiet for some time) atlus USA only localized it.

      • echokanon

While Dept Heaven’s rights are under Sting, I believe they might have some sort of contract or agreement that Atlus would be handling the sales of most of their titles.

Starting from few years back, all their titles (Unions, Hexyz Force, Gungnir) were all published by Atlus even in Japan

Dept Heaven is on CH hands now

  • CirnoLakes

I’d like to take the time right now to remind people that SEGA are spending quite a bit of money to purchase Atlus. I don’t think they’re just going to go letting IP sit around and unlocalized.

Companies do have cultures. And the culture of SEGA has changed a lot. It is clear that they want to move in a Japanese industry friendly direction by gaining these IPs. But I doubt that SEGA would also spend all this money on gaining Atlus, to not gain any Western money out of the investment.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva f is unlikely to be the last of SEGA’s localization of ‘very Japanese’ content.

    • Tenshiken

It really depends on what SEGA wants to do with Atlus USA, SEGA bought Atlus for their IP, not for their publishing business. We could very well end up in a situation in where they merge or disband Atlus USA because they just relay on SEGA USA for their western publishing, if we loose Atlus USA, we don’t necessarily loose SMT or Persona, but we loose out on a lot of the niche content they would of published otherwise .
Or it could go the other way and Atlus USA becomes a sort of niche localization arm of SEGA.

      • CirnoLakes

I don’t pretend to know anything about what their intentions are.

But if I could hazard a guess to any likelihood, I guess the feeling that they would either leave Atlus USA as they are. Atlus kept them around, so SEGA Sammy will probably keep them around.

Or, they might try to re-arrange the teams by merging the SEGA USA and Atlus USA localization. I don’t think that they’re going to be laying off a bunch of English localizers.

Also, from the sound of the statements, it sounds like there’s a lot of interest in the PC and well as online gaming. Could be good news that SEGA is planning to hurry up and localize Phantasy Star Online 2 for the West. And Atlus USA may play a part in that.

        • Yuuki

wasnt atlus usa independet from atlus at all?

  • ChiffonCake

I’m not sure what to think of this.

    • Armane

Me neither. But I hope it results in faster EU releases and less dubbing.

  • HansKisaragi

they could not find a better name huh?

    • AnimeRemix

Well, what name would you come up with? Just curious.

  • British_Otaku

So the common guess got the Index/Atlus despite lots of competition, I suppose it makes sense given how SEGA has helped them out in the past.

Segatlus Sanshiro is a badass who will hopefully lead us towards more localisations.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Thank gawd I know Japanese…localizations aint happening now

    • British_Otaku

I know SEGA have been shy localising anything which isn’t Sonic, but I assume they will let Atlus USA, Nintendo or NISA help out.

That said, I’ll have to pick up Japanese just in case a Japan exclusive SEGA All Star Battle including Megaten, Valkyria Chronicles and Etrian Odyssey comes around. >_>

  • SetzerGabbiani

Although I realize it is good for their business, I am very uneasy about the whole “Sega also plans to leverage the Index IPs to fuel growth in the PC online game business and smartphone sectors.” It almost sounds like they are going to use Index as a PC and mobile division, which would suck quite frankly. I’m less concerned about localizations because certain games like Persona are profitable and will be localized…I’m more concerned about Sega becoming too involved in Atlus’ day-to-day and pulling a “SquareEnix” with their IPs right when they are just becoming more popular in the west. I realize that Atlus already had online/mobile/social gaming, but I feel like this purchase will be an accelerant for exiting dedicated consoles.

Sega, please let Atlus stay pretty much independent.

    Cautiously optimistic.

    • CirnoLakes

Yeah, I love the sound of that PC online part of the thing.

SEGA has been fantastic with PC support lately. Their recent PC ports are fantastic and run flawlessly and much of their modern library is on Steam. As a PC gamer I’m super happy with SEGA as a company on that angle. I love Japanese games and the PC, and SEGA has done a lot to give a platform I love the games I would love to have for it.

And the part about PC online gives me a lot of hope for Phantasy Star Online 2 to finally come to the West. I’m hoping that maybe they’ll use Atlus USA to help speed of the localization of that game.

  • MrTyrant

You guys worry about Persona but that series do very well in the west and the same goes for the main franchine. My worry would be more niche smt like Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner or any other spin off.
I would fear if another echanged port like Soul Hacker appear in the future but get stuck in japan only because dungeon crawlers or first person battle/dungeons are not mainstream enough.

    • Arcana Wiz

yeah i know, lige i said in another article persona 5 is already in development, probably in the final stages, but the niche games future are uncertain…. and all niche games that atlus localized to us…. like Growlanser, Dept heaven series, Vannilaware games…. we lost a big niche supporter.

      • MrTyrant

GROWLANSER!! NO!! I want to cry. Largrisser and Growlanser, I’ll always dream with new version of both games in the future or the spiritual succesor.

The risk that Atlus took with Growlanser IV or the remaining games of Dept Heaven may not happen ever again.

        • Arcana Wiz

yes, this is my problem, but i dont blame sega, i mean every other potential onwer would not let them take this kind of risks…. but it’s sad.

    • LightZero

I agree. I couldn’t careless about Persona. They will likely continue to pimp that series out. I’m more concern about any future Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, or any future megaten spin-off not being localize.

  • 657rod

Hush, I liked Sega games as a brat, I think they will do a good work ^^

  • Jontaku

What affect would this have on European localisation.

    • Tatsuya1221

Anything that is scheduled for release currently will probably still be released, future IP on the other hand has potential to be localized by sega of europe, provided sega continues to publish the atlus games in the west (they are profitable, sega wouldn’t have bought them if they weren’t).

  • Aristides

This has so much potential… and so much room for screw up… 0-0 two of my favorite companies (in terms of IP) are together, I hope this works out. It would also be nice to see Atlus use SEGA IPs…

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Does this mean Atlus games will no longer be published in the West due to “lack of interest?” I had to go there

    Dat Sonic Flynn pic

  • MrJechgo

Huh… what does that mean for the SMT x Fire Emblem crossover game?

    • Barrylocke89

I doubt games in the short term, like SMT x FE, will be affected.

    • Tatsuya1221

Considering how buddy buddy sega and nintendo are these days, i would doubt you have anything to fear when it comes to SMTxFE.

    • CirnoLakes

It means we’re getting Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem x Shining Force now, don’t ya know!

  • So does Atlus USA exist still? This is very important.
I’m okay with SEGA owning Atlus I just hope the games aren’t left in Japan.

    • Barrylocke89

This is the main thing that scares me. I’ll admit that I don’t know much about Sega’s state of affairs, (though I’ll try to learn a bit more about my favorite companies new overlords :P ) but I’m scared that things may turn out like VC3 all over again. Time will tell, I suppose.

  • ragingmerifes

Raidou Kuzunoha in Yakuza Ishin confirmed.

  • epy

I don’t know how to feel about this… SEGA doesn’t localize much anymore. Hell, they haven’t even done Yakuza 5 for some reason.

  • Ban The Jackass

I’m here for the comments. …. Anyway, I really do hope Atlus stays Atlus ):

    • Tenshiken

Atlus game development will probably stay the same. Atlus publishing however is not looking so good

  • Can we get a Jack Sonic?

  • Brimfyre

5 Years ago I would have been so happy with this news. Now I am filled with dread.

  • Katboy

as a Vita owner (and likes it a lot) this news somehow fills me with dread…hmmm

    • Brandonmkii

As a vita owner. I’m excited that phantasy star nova has a better cheeks to be localized now.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Been thinking about it more. If Atlus (with SEGA’s resources) can take their own RPGs as well as SEGA’s dormant RPGs like Shining Force, old style Phantasy Star, Beyond Oasis and give them new life, I’m all for it. However, it’s imperative that dedicated gaming consoles and portables are not left out. Make some money in mobile, sure, but they should NOT forget where their “bread is buttered” in terms of fandom.

This is probably a long shot since sales were abysmal, but the next Project X Zone-like game should be fun if SEGA is still involved. Hitoshura Freischutz-ing the hell out of enemies would be phenomenal.

  • I don’t know much about how Sega operates, but is this really a bad thing? Typically Atlus games seem to do well enough for them in the West since they seem to be profitable. Not to mention that there is still their US branch, which I doubt has been automatically shut down as a result of this acquisition. I’m not worried at all. I think they’ll be fine. We’ll just have to wait and see. They wouldn’t try to own this studio because their games weren’t profitable or something.

Also, as far as Sega cancelling SMtxFE, can they really do that? Isn’t that game being mainly funded by Nintendo? I would think that if it were to get cancelled that they would have some say in it decision.

That picture made my morning by the way, haha.

    • LightZero

They won’t cancel it. Not to mention Sega and Nintendo are on good terms.

      • brian

I wonder if it would get canceled if someone like Sony acquired Atlus, even if wondering if pointless.

  • AuraGuyChris

Nooo, Flynn needs to just say “Burroughs” and death screams. He shouldn’t say how his fellow samurai are too slow!

  • celery

I’m not so much worried about SMT and Persona as I am for Etrian Odyssey! </3

    • CirnoLakes

      Hooray for Etrian Odyssey fans!

I was worried that I was one of the only ones who held that series as one of their most favourite Atlus franchises.

      • celery

I love both SMT and Persona, but personally Etrian Odyssey is my favorite from Atlus! <3

SMT and Persona sell well enough, so I don't think we have to worry about them, but Etrian Odyssey I'm not so sure about y-y </3

  • FFmax

I just want to know if we’re still getting games over here.

  • I’m interested to see how this all plays out.

  • Kai2591

    • CirnoLakes

      Everyone is panicing now.

And then, 2014, we get Persona 5 for PlayStation 4 and Steam.
Atlus USA localizes all Yakuza games.
SEGA ports all PSP games to newer systems and brings them to the West.
Every Hatsune Miku game ever for PSN and Steam, English localized.
Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PSN and Steam, English localized.
SEGA and Atlus joint develop Skies of Arcadia 2.
Phantasy Star Online 2 Western release.
      SEGA announce new Panzer Dragoon.
      Shenmue III announced.
Puyo Puyo collection for PSN and Steam.
Sakura Wars Collection for PSN and Steam English localized.
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem x Shining Force announced.

Then everyone says “this is the best thing ever.”

      • “SEGA and Atlus joint develop Skies of Arcadia 2.”

        Well there’s a new thing I want.

      • Lynx

-Sakura Wars Collection for PSN and Steam English localized.
-Phantasy Star Online 2 Western release.

        • MrTyrant

Dammit! I want the Sakura Taisen collection.

      • MrTyrant

Well of course everyone will say that, it would be a dream come true.

      • Arcana Wiz

…… if half of that list happens i can die happy, but yeah people have to be more positive.

      • Kai2591

and nobody will hate Sega anymore and they live happily ever after~

(Dear God, I hope they all come true! :)

  • Summoning Personas at the speed of sound!
Got places to go, got to follow my rainbow!
Can’t stick around, have to keep movin’ on!
Guess what lies ahead, only one way to find out …

SEGA, the cards are now in your hand, play wisely :D

  • artemisthemp

Hopefully Sega will release Persona 5 in the West as psychical release.

  • EQeE

Boy oh boy those images are priceless.

  • NLucafs

Oh well. Too late to do anything about it now.

I’m not excited for the future, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Chie’s Sonic-like theme from Persona 4 Arena was foreshadowing this!!

  • MrTyrant

Raidou confirmed in the next Project x Zone.

    • Think he and Dante will finally clash for whose the better guest character?

  • wahyudil

so, is this the most powerful game company between square-enix, bandai-namco, and tecmo-koei? because sega-sammy-atlus has 3 company unite??

    • Yuuki

well revenue wise its far stronger then square.

  • Sentsuizan_93
    • Arcana Wiz

damn, this is everywhere! people sure are fast.

  • NeoAthanasius

I hope that Sega taking over isn’t the reason that Atlus USA only has two announced games coming out, and nothing listed as coming in 2014. It’s really worrying.

    • Lordshade

They have more announced, though they are only publishing them. the only upcoming title listed for Japan is Devil Survivor 2 break record.

      • NeoAthanasius

Good to know! I’ve been buying Atlus USA localized games for as long as I’ve been gaming. I would hate to have them go away.

  • Learii

I hope this didn’t mean sega not bringing persona 5 or atlus other games to the west =(

  • I just really hope this doesn’t become Square Enix again for SMT.

SMT x Fire Emblem x Valkyria Chronicles x Sakura Taisen
    the ultimate SRPG cross over.
Now Atlus games has the probability to get released on steam

    • dam4rus

My thoughts exactly. I would love to see Atlus releasing their games for the PC. Actually, i find it odd, that they didn’t tried the market already, since the dungeon crawling genre started and are still pretty popular on the PC.

  • Logan Moll

This is potentially horrible news. Sega have a shitty track record for localizing games, they make questionable decisions with their oldest, strongest IP, and they are not a very consumer friendly company–I’m referring to the Shining Force youtube debacle. This just sucks.

  • Arasthel

    It’s over

  • Heisst

    weep weep.

  • Kelohmello

I’m a little worried. I just hope Sega lets them do what they have been doing up to now.

I Can’t wait to summon Jirae Sonic! I wonder how I unlock his special fusion…

  • Göran Isacson

Segatlus Sanshiro needs a white gi to REALLY do his name justice. That aside I approve of the design!

Now then… SEGA and Atlus. On the one hand, this co operation didn’t really work out fantastically for Platinum games. Little PR work was done, SEGA delayed the localization of Anarchy Reigns if I recall correctly… it’s not been a good road there.

On the other hand the possibilities of Atlus getting onboard SEGA’s Steam-loving train? Now THAT’S quite promising, and could open them up to a whole new revenue stream. And of course, there is always the possibility that SEGA just lets Atlus do what they do and neither improve nor enhance it. I can’t say I can recall SEGA being that good to it’s underlings in the past, so I have to admit that I’m more cautiously pessimistic to this than cautiously optimistic.

  • Jesse

This is my only contribution to this insanity:

They say things will continue as before.

  • Mannn it was already taking years for persona 5 come out ! Now it going to take light years !
