One Piece: Romance Dawn Will Make It To North America [Update]

By Spencer . September 19, 2013 . 12:02am

Namco Bandai announced that they will release One Piece: Romance Dawn in Europe and North America. One Piece: Romance Dawn turns the series into a role playing game and it covers nearly 600 chapters of the manga.

The story begins at the very beginning and follows Luffy all the way through to the Marineford arc. Watch a new trailer for the game below:

One Piece: Romance Dawn was originally released for PSP and the Nintendo 3DS version has extra dungeons and a Pandaman cameo. Siliconera asked Namco Bandai if One Piece: Romance Dawn would be released as a retail game or if it’s a digital only title One Piece: Pirate Warriors. We’re still waiting to hear back and will post an update when we get confirmation.

Update: Trailer added.

  • Zangetsu777

I did not see this coming!!!!
And i hope it gets a retail and digital release.

  • RovCal

    • British_Otaku

Now it doesn’t matter what system you get, you’ll be able to play Romance Dawn. :P Have you decided yet?

  • Pockystix

    I. . . I think I might cry

    • $61526767

… I’m already enjoying every single moment of this day. I SHALL HAVE THIS DAY ONE!

    • fairysun

I cried like Nico Robin did !

  • Suicunesol

I’ll bite. If it’ll get RED localized too, I definitely will bite.

  • Namco Bandai the best Japanese publisher.

  • GameWinner

    Thank you based Namco!

  • Ooh Bee

I’m all over this like white on rice.

  • Commas! Yes! I love when localizations use commas correctly.

(And now back our regularly scheduled programming.)

    • Testsubject909

Next on the Punctuation Movie Network: Semicolon.

  • LM009

    thank you namco bandai ^_^

  • $36487238

First, MH Frontier G, then JoJo and now… THIS?!

XD Mamma mia, ay caramba, sugoi! What’s up with the world today? ;P

    • ronin4life

MH Frontier G is coming to the west?

      ?_ .

      • British_Otaku

I believe it is coming out on the Vita.
Give that Nintendo systems and portables have had the series on lock especially as far as localised games go, it’s good to see the Vita getting a MH game even if it is already on the PS3, Wii U among other systems.

      • $36487238

        Got excited there XD

Frontier G Vita is only Japan, as I recall. Got excited ‘cuz it’s on the Vita. I always wanted a proper MH for Vita.

Then again… you do need a JP PSN account for that. hmmm…

Now I’m beginning to doubt if it’s even exciting.

  • FangElon

    Something worth waiting for.

  • School Idol Addict

That’s good, if they release as retail, i might buy it.

  • Renaldi Saputra

now we’re waiting for Re:Digitize Decode’s localization announcement

    • awat

heck yeah ! damn the 3DS has got awesome games coming it will rape my wallet -.-, i feel alittle bad for my Ordered PsVita. x.x

      • Renaldi Saputra

        I feel the same too

      • Testsubject909

        I don’t.

To date there’s been far more titles that have caught my attention going on the Vita then there has been on the 3DS.

        • Testsubject909

To note. I also count games that I have to import. Because, y’know, region free and all.

          • Renaldi Saputra

maybe you’re right.. there are many good games too for PS Vita even though they haven’t been in english.. but after all, they’re region free unlike 3DS

    • Yes please.

  • Warboss Aohd

  • jugss

    Does Nintendo join TGS?

  • Fox

    What, really?

  • Will John

I’d rejoice, but I can’t play since all i got is PSP

    • British_Otaku

You could import the Japanese version of Romance Dawn on the PSP, though it would be in Japanese and missing some additions and bonuses in this version on top of the dual screen interface.

Otherwise, the 2DS is coming out soon so it isn’t too expensive to jump into the 3DS lineup (or you could get a second hand 3DS/XL system). A lot of great One Piece games are coming to the 3DS so far, even if I can’t say they all get localised worldwide properly.

EDIT: Apparently there is an English patch for the PSP game too, but you can work that out, I’m not allowed to link to those apparently… >_>

  • LuffyPanda15

    the feels tho

  • TheExile285

  • Kalis Konig

I’m watching one piece…and now I check the news and this happens…I…I think I may be the cause of this. But seriously this is awesome news. If this does well we will definitely get Unlimited Red as well!

  • Natalie Rath

    *cries tears of joy*

  • Junko Enoshima

    whoops I NEED THIS

  • Testsubject909

Sweetness. And now I’m getting another reason to buy a 3DS.

Don’t have one yet but I’ll still buy this game day 1 either way.

  • Jonattas F.

And now I like One Piece! :D

  • Fujisawa Ruuzaa

Namco delivered. Now its your move SE. Give us DQ7 nowww!!!

  • Aaronrules380

I’d much rather get Unlimited world red. Especially since I’ve heard this game isn’t that good

    • British_Otaku

Same, but supporting this project (which at the least attempts to cover 600 chapters and have tons of costumes) everywhere is likely to make Unlimited World Red come along.

    • What’s not good about it? Famitsu seemed to like it (which I realize doesn’t always mean much). The battle system looks neat. I’m glad it’s not a cruddy action game. Rather have a cruddy RPG than a cruddy action game.

  • Guest

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. This is a good step towards bringing Unlimited world red here.

  • Chris Lane

Was really hoping for this! Looking forward to this game!

  • Devinja

I noticed the Funimation logo at the end. Are they dubbing it?

    • British_Otaku

Not necessarily, FUNimation’s name will be on all Dragon Ball (Final Bout, Attack of the Saiyans, Legacy of Goku 2, Buu’s Fury) and One Piece games in North America just because they have to be part of the agreement whether or not they offer their voice acting studios or not. FUNimation are the license holder for the anime in North America and more or less the most significant localisation of the show.

See Final Bout’s credits 53 seconds into this:

Ever watched a Dragon Ball movie and seen Akira Toriyama credited as if he wrote the movie when he may have just provided a few designs for characters?

I’m more focused on the e-Shop indication at the end of the video, it doesn’t mean retail is out, but still.

      • Devinja

Thats a special thanks though, this is their logo in the trailer for production of said game. And they don’t own the rights in Europe in general.

        • British_Otaku

Take a look at this trailer (particularly 3:33) then:

© EIICHIRO ODA/SHUEISHA, TOEI ANIMATION. License coordinated by
FUNimation® Productions, Ltd. Game © 2013 NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc.
Developed by TECMO KOEI GAMES CO., LTD. is in the description too.

Pirate Warriors 2 never got a dub, FUNimation get credits for each NA release which goes through TOEI (so you won’t see them on a manga adaptation or spinoff). This is a trailer directed towards North America, so here we are. As for Europe, we may see them in trailer soon when games go through NA and EU at the same time or get a FUNiDub and will get their name on it because that’s how it works.

  • AuraGuyChris

Huh. At last, I’ll be buying an anime video game since Naruto: Clash of Ninja – Revolution.

    • British_Otaku

You missed out on Revolution 2 and 3?
Clash of Ninja Revolution was probably the worst Eighting Naruto fighter released outside of Japan… >_>

  • Lilith

I don’t know anything about One Piece but if this covers so much from the manga from day one then I’ll guess I’ll bite and board the One Piece choochoo.

    • British_Otaku

This apparently isn’t the best game to start with as far as being a good game though even if it is one of the only games to focus on the core story and cover hundreds of chapters directly. >_>

The best game to join the series with I think would be One Piece on the GBA (a brilliant platformer which goes only 50 episodes in, but it’s REALLY good) or Gigant Battle 1/2 (both are really good 2D brawlers like Smash Bros and go as far as this game in content and further but without focusing on the narrative), then those are harder to find.

This game is going to be skipping content like game adaptations do and skips an arc, but why not join with this I guess and try out Strong World (FUNimation are dubbing the 10th movie soon) which is set around the same period.

      • Suicunesol

Which arc does it skip? Certainly not the Davy Back fight.

        • British_Otaku

Skypiea, unless they added it again for the 3DS version (they do have extra dungeons including Pandaman).

I know more about what is missing in Pirate Warriors 1 than this on the PSP or 3DS unfortunately, so I can’t say whether the Davy Back fight made it in unless you are implying you saw picture/footage showing it’s in which would be somewhat surprising.

I’ve looked up a bit and it seems that Little Garden (about 10 episodes in the show, as long as the arc which introduces Chopper) is reduced to a skit along with other arcs and that everything from Skypeia to Foxy isn’t in for the PSP version…

You aren’t going to get the Davy Back fight covered… :/ Maybe Foxy will be playable or a boss in Unlimited World Red though, Ganbarion always had tons of content. >_>

    • Leon_Tekashi

We do not speak of anything 4Kids related. =(

      • Lynx

You have to admit, the rap was kind of catchy.

        • Leon_Tekashi

          True but….Grr…4Kids.

  • Spirit Macardi

It’s cool that they’re bringing this over, but what will get me squeeing is if they give it an English voice track. And seeing as Brook’s VA was just announced (it’s Ian Sinclair, and he’s PERFECT) that means the whole main cast is now accounted for.

    • British_Otaku

They didn’t even voice the first episodes before they dubbed and released Unlimited Adventure in 2008 which had Franky voiced by FUNimation, though yes, there is no excuse as far as the crew’s line up goes for games to not have a dub.

  • doubleO7

Nice! I didn’t think we’d get this in the US.

  • Herok♞

I think its eshop only since they usually don’t put that logo on retail games

  • LunarKnite

The 3DS outside of Japan was missing three things, imo. Digimon, One Piece, and Dragon Quest. One of those three will grace our hands, let us hope the other two follow suit.

As a side note, I actually teared up after I read the article header.

  • Izzy Miyake

Pretty sure this about sums things up

  • YoshEE

Fcking yes!!!!! That all I can say.

  • Göran Isacson

I do hope that some of those accessories will be the fruit sentai outfits they had in one of those double page spreads. That would be very appreciated on my behalf.

    • British_Otaku

      This one right?:

The colour spreads have huge line up of costumes which would be very nice to see in games, it’s a shame that most of them in the future are going to be sold as “preorder bonuses” at first then DLC instead of provided right off the bat.. I recall Unlimited Adventure and Cruise having a fair line up including a few of those costumes. Chances are this has a few of them too even if it seems more focused on trinkets like the Shaboady (a word I’m not bothered to spell right) Bubbles on characters’ heads.

      • Göran Isacson

Yeah, I do hope we get these outfits rather than the Shabaody bubbles-trinkets. Because I am nothing if not a sucker for color.

  • Any word from Namco Bandai about it coming to retail?

  • Prinny Dood

    Arigato Namco Bandai

  • Covnam

This is great news, though I suspect it will follow the other recent One Piece games and go retail in the EU and digital only in NA unfortunately. Maybe if they consider the 3DS market more likely to pick the game up it will go retail. That’d be nice :)

  • Jake Joe

Should ask if this will contain dual audio or which audio will this game have since it is on the 3ds

    • British_Otaku

The 3DS is no reason why a game should or shouldn’t have dual audio. Resident Evil Revelations has both and even the relatively small time Virtue’s Last Reward had both.

That said, I’m nearly 100% sure that there will only be Japanese voices given that both Europe and Japan only seem to be getting one voice over and the releases weren’t too long ago (Europe hasn’t got the game yet) that the agreement for North America should get a dub. I think the trailer also being in Japanese also spells it out.

  • No way no way no way no way no way no way no WAAAAY!!! THANK YOU, Namco Bandai!!! Good god this is awesome news, totally made my week, it’s an insta-insta-insta-buy. If it comes out on the eShop, bought. Retail, bought. If it comes out on both, I’ll buy one of each, and most likely a few more retail copies over time. This actually gives me a lot of hope for Unlimited World Red, and I’d still love to see both Unlimited Cruise SP games make it over to the states in whatever form possible.

  • Jimmy McNulty

I hope this doesn’t hurt the chances of Unlimited World Red coming out! I hear Romance Dawn is a bad game, but RED looks amazing! Please bring that to either continent! I’ll buy it!

  • Alphabet Soup

I love when manga/anime series get the RPG treatment – the Rayearth RPG for Saturn is still one of my all-time favorite games. I never got into One Piece, but I may need to pick this up!

  • laurenhiya21

YESS :D I thought for sure this wouldn’t come over here but I’m glad I’m wrong about that :D

  • PhoenixPhill

I’m so glad One Piece games are making it here!
