Capcom Respond To Monster Hunter 4 Localization Requests

By Ishaan . September 25, 2013 . 4:09pm

On the official Monster Hunter Facebook page, Capcom have responded to a fan campaign requesting them to release Monster Hunter 4 in the west. Here’s their statement:

Hey hunters! We’ve seen many of you ask for us to #BRINGMH4TOTHEWEST. We’re excited to see the fan base growing and you all showing your passion, keep it coming! We are continuing to evaluate new Monster Hunter titles for the west, and will share any new information with you here on Facebook as soon as we have it.

Monster Hunter 4 was released in Japan earlier this month. The game marks the first time a portable Monster Hunter title has included online multiplayer as part of its feature set, which is considered crucial for western audiences by Capcom.

    I CAN’T WAIT!!!

    • TheGioG

Our monster hunting, monster loving bodies are ready, Capcom.

  • TheExile285

Wow that was a vague response. At least they responded though unlike some companies…

    • ReidHershel

MH3U did really well, this is probably coming.

      • ronin4life

Within Japan 4 has also been doing great, And with Nintendo providing online servers and special collab dlc…

Nintendo is bringing Bravely default, which otherwise they had nothing to do with. They wouldn’t let monster hunter just sit in Japan with all they have invested in it.

        • Gideon de Groodt

Well the special Nintendo collab stuff is cool..

But I also want those Anime DLC items! D:
I want my Attack on Titan swords and uniform. D:

    • konsama

      That’s typical Capcom for you.

    • Brion Valkerion

Probably looking to convince the bosses in Japan that MH4 is worth localizing.

    • Nero

      meaning sega

  • ianschopa

Nice to hear they are “evaluating” it but I would kind of hope they were well underway with getting it translated by now. I suspect the problems they have with selling these games abroad is related to how long they sit on the games. The last one took 18 months, for example, and by the time it was released MH4 was clearly on the radar.

    • InfectedAI

Yeah, plenty of people are skipping on MH3U to wait for MH4. Even the recent 20 dollar sale wasn’t worth it for me without online play.

    • InfectedAI

Yeah, plenty of people are skipping on MH3U to wait for MH4. Even the recent 20 dollar sale wasn’t worth it for me without online play.

    • ronin4life

This doesn’t mean they aren’t, it means they don’t want to talk about it.

      Basically, “Keep waiting”.

      • J_Joestar

Basically, “Just sit tight and buy MH3U for now!”

      • ianschopa

If that’s the case then it’s kind of an odd statement to make to your main audience

“Just checking if you’re interested in this game. We already set up a production team to work on it buuut we may change our minds”

        • malek86

It’s really just business jargon. There’s no way they won’t localize it, but until they can officially confirm it, they must pretend it’s all in the air. Like the times when you hear a company say “we have no plans for this product”, and the next day they unveil that product.

Sometimes I wish there could be a little more clarity in the dialogue between companies and customers, but it’s all marketing.

        • ronin4life

What Malek said. I could be wrong of course, but it is very likely that could be working on it already and won’t say.

    • ronin4life

This doesn’t mean they aren’t, it means they don’t want to talk about it.

      Basically, “Keep waiting”.

  • SupaPhly

someone make a #bringyakuza5tothewest and see if Sega responds
    …pls ;_;

    • DS23

Yeah, right after they put PSO2 out here they’ll get on Yakuza 5 i.e. NEVER. >>

    • ronin4life

They brought over Miku. They are most certainly alreadt considering what could be one of the bigger ps4 launch titles.

      Wether that means anything though…

      • Solomon_Kano

        Yakuza 5 isn’t a PS4 launch title. Or a PS4 game at all.

Miku didn’t really take much in the way of localization either, and they held a campaign beforehand to see if the interest was worth their time. It’s not exactly a sign of Sega suddenly wanting to support their more niche titles in the west, just an answer to years of people asking for Miku.

        • ronin4life

Oh, I had it confused with Ishin…

  • raitouniverse

And then they end up localizing monster hunter frontier g for the Vita.

    • InfectedAI

      Don’t even joke.

    • TheExile285

      Why bring this in here?

      • Muffum

I guess someone disliked your comment enough to bot downvotes for it. Go figure.

        • Fitzkrieg

The downvotes are a marvel, to be sure.
On an unrelated note; your avatar is amazing, sir.

      • TheGioG

Jesus, I can literally see the downvotes plummeting to hell! What’s up with Disqus today?

        • Ferrick

it’s amazing on how sad some people are to the point where they have to do something like this to boost their self-esteem

          • TheGioG

Yeah, downvotes were going to freakn’ town on today’s Pokemon article too…

      • Wow most down votes ever

      • d19xx

Wow never seen that many down votes before. That should be an achievement….

      • DuskSharkEX

Oh geez, that amount of dislikes is ridiculous.

      • well played exile my hat to you sir

        • TheExile285

      • Enzo

I have no idea how you got so many downvotes, nor the reason why your comment would even get downvoted. It’s not even that rude.

        • I think it is just momentum. You see so many downvotes that you want to contribute. But yeah the comment is not rude or trollish. In fact it is a genuine question.

      • ronin4life

        190… AND CLIMBING!!!!

      • Symbol de Au

Why does this post have twenty up votes?

        • RichyGaming

Because we’re losing Exile, give it an up vote!

        • XiaomuArisu

          We helping him survive

        • TheExile285

22 upvotes and 374 dislikes and you are worrying about the up votes?

          • Symbol de Au

I don’t know. If you got 375 dislikes you probably deserved it =/. I gave you an upvote though bro.

          • MikeTxn

That, or DIsqus just reached “youtube comments” level.
I think it’s probably the latter.

          • XiaomuArisu

            Nobody deserved that cruel fate….
            The Horror…

      • Thatguy

        377 downvotes in 2 h?

        You, sir, are legend.

      • I agree. Like seriously, Frontier is the worst of the MH games…

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

GOOOOOOOOOOD LORD!! give this man an elixir….. the downvotes hit box is hurting

      • Slayven19

I have never in my life seen that many votes for a post let alone down votes. I don’t even understand the reason behind the down votes at all. You must have edited your post or something.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

Nope, it was like that from the start.

        • Go2hell66

someone must have hacked the downvote system or maybe its glitching or something

      • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

        I’m sorry.

      • zeta

        • TheExile285

Nah, not that many. Someone made a bot

      • AdhesiveBoy

I was peer pressured into downvoting.

        • TheExile285

          Those are from bots…….

    • They aren’t interested in localizing Frontier and have said so in the past.

      • $36598391

Is something wrong with Frontier that they’re afraid to bring it to NA?

        • ronin4life

It is an mmo spinoff of a franchise they are already shakey about bringing over.

Servers would make an already profitless venture a money sink.

        • Pretty much what ronin said below. Too much effort with little to no ROI in it for them. It’s a grindy, subscription-based online game that would require constant server maintenance and management.

  • Klarktastic

Digital only so it gets here faster. AM I RIGHT GUYS?

    • Khoko

      Yes. Make it happen, Capcom.

    • British_Otaku

I’m answering as an individual who has a Japanese 3DS and may be whining but…. No. I would rather import the game than wait for a digital copy of an action game. I don’t want to see another game rushed to the market, missing languages, not being stocked on shelves, locked at high prices and only available on Nintendo’s primitive e-Shop… I would be cool with physical and digital for this… >_>

This isn’t my best thought out post here, but that’s how I feel.

      • Namuro

Hey, are you playing MH4 right now?

        • British_Otaku

Nope. I haven’t actually played any MH but the 3DS Demo for MH3U a lot of times.

I’m interested in the series thanks to folks here, friends and E.X Troopers, but I would rather wait for a localisation to make things more straight forward and make increase the people I can play multiplayer with.

That and I’m on a budget, the 3DS’s line up in Europe and importing One Piece and maybe Gaist Crusher/Hero Bank may be it for the year.

          • Namuro

Ah, okay. I’m always on a lookout for more hunters!

            Anyway, here’s my FC: 0018-1230-4115

Maybe I’ll see you in One Piece and Gaist Crusher as well then!

          • British_Otaku

            I see.

            Here’s my FC: 3024-5239-6058

There is some chance I could import MH4 in advance, it’s mostly based on Capcom’s pace, whether there is a physical release or manga/anime content which won’t make it outside of Japan like the Attack on Titan content for MH3U.

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure which of the coming multiplayer hunting-ish games (Toriko, One Piece, Gaist Crusher, EDIT: Attack on Titan) in Japan have online multiplayer, how much freedom they offer or not… That said, if Gaist and Unlimited World Red do, I’ll probably see you there.

            I wish E.X. Troopers on the 3DS had online multiplayer too… >_>

          • 하세요

            Here’s my code: 0834-1360-1490
I’m currently HR5. I’m EST/EDT btw so our times may be different but on weekends I’m usually on all day.

      • Klarktastic

Its cool, that was supposed to be a troll post anyway, I’m still bitter at about Phoenix Wright.

        • British_Otaku

I did see the “AM I RIGHT GUYS?” and remember you (or at least your avatar) being against how Capcom were handling AA5, so I’m not sure I didn’t just leave your post alone or thumb it up before…

I’m probably super bitter about any digital release of physical games… >_> I’ll buy Code of Princess when I get my American 3DS too.

          • Klarktastic

An American 3ds is a good idea, I’m from Portugal and I own one myself, I actually don’t own a EU 3ds at all since its badly supported here. ( I have an physical copy of code princess hehe, be jealous please.)

          • British_Otaku

If you are a fan of One Piece or interested in Senran Kagura, I win the second round, though yes, you win this one. >_>

If only localisations were done properly, we wouldn’t need to buy systems from other countries.

          • Klarktastic

yep, that or make the freaking thing region free, don’t really care about one piece, but senran kagura is a bummer

  • Same thing that VP that left the company said about another title

    Nothing new

  • Raltrios

I don’t really care about the game itself at the moment, but bring that sweet XL system over! I want to upgrade, but I don’t like any of the current models or the upcoming Pokemon ones. I’d love the MH XL.

Of course, I’d get the game too if it came in a bundle.

  • Khoko

    I’ll buy 10 copies. I swear I will.

    • leingod

      I bet you won’t :P

    • 하세요

If you’re willing to drop that much, just buy a JP 3DS and enjoy it now.

  • Godman

Oh God they are looking at the amount of hype going for the localization, quick! We need to give more and more demand to make it happen!
Capcom the instance MH4 is announced for the west I will get up from my chair and go preordered ASAP
    Make it happen!

    • ronin4life

Or you will sit into your chair and hit up

  • Chaos_Knight

    *sees Title*

    Capcom: No.

    *reads article*
    Capcom: Hehe. ;)

  • British_Otaku

I hope they consider E.X Troopers on the side, it has Rathalos armour as a costume so it’s sorta on topic…
    A link for anyone interested:

Back to this, I’m glad they are making a statement like this but they are still going to be releasing the information when they want to and making us feel at their mercy… >_>

  • Dark Zerato

3DS needs a new hunting game to compete with VITA. Soul Sacrifice and Ragnarok Odyssey are both doing well. So localizing MH4 is an obvious choice.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

it doesn’t. 3DS will deliver more varieties JRPG

    • British_Otaku

I was going to disagree and list a number of hunting games or games with hunting elements, then I remember that the 3DS is region locked and you probably can’t even play them even you were just in Europe and North America…

Ah region locking… I’m looking forward to getting Soul Sacrifice when I get a Vita, that one’s from Inafune right?

      • SeventhEvening

Yeah, and I highly recommend it. I’ve really enjoyed it. I actually prefer it over MonHun these days.

      • TheExile285

Wait and see how Delta turns put. It may be the definitive version.

  • Leon_Tekashi

Well…At least this franchise is still okay. :D

  • KazukiNanbu

if capcom bring MH 4 and EX Trooper my faith for them will be restored….a little

    • gold163

Monster Hunter 4 is moderately likely; EX Troopers is probably a pipe dream at this point unfortunately.

  • What if this was just a nice way of saying no and then never getting back to the issue lol

  • mojack411

I would be shocked if this didn’t make it over.

  • Junko Enoshima

It sold over 2 million copies already, though….

    • British_Otaku

Usually you expect companies to be a little more risk averse when a game has sold well and attempt to sell more in other regions, though there are occasions where poor sellers have gotten localised (Zero Escape – though it probably does good numbers for what it needs) and big sellers stayed a few regions or just one region (Inazuma Eleven).

      • J_Joestar

and sometimes those poor sellers (like Code of Princess) end up doing quite well outside of Japan, at least far better than the company’s predictions.

        • D Bach

But that’s the exception rather than the rule. Anyone who runs a business and makes fiscal decisions based on the exceptions…well, they won’t be running that business for long. With the exception of the PSP version, the Monster Hunter series is not very popular in the US or UK. If they believe the game won’t sell well, why would they risk a release? Just because Code of Princess sold well they should follow suit? Furthermore, Code of Princess wasn’t localized by the game developers (Agatsuma Entertainment), it was localized by Atlus. Having Atlus, a publisher with a long history of successful localizations, take on the US release removed some of the fiscal risk off of Agatsuma Entertainment. Capcom has its own publishing branch in the US and UK, so it does not require a 3rd party for localization. This allows them to reap all the profits from a successful game, but that also leaves them vulnerable to a bad game. I would like to see a US release of Monster Hunter 4…but…I wouldn’t be surprised if they determined the game has low or even negative profitability and not localize considering how poorly other Monster Hunter titles (except the PSP release) have usually done.

          • J_Joestar

never said that a game that sells poorly domestically has to do well internationally, just adding on to the point that some games that did poorly locally in Japan ended up getting released outside of Japan anyways, some of which actually doing well beyond expectations like CoP and 999/Zero Escape.
And MH4’s localization chances aren’t actually bad either, unlike in the past where Capcom had to foot everything themselves, Nintendo has shown a reasonable amount of support for the series such as helping out in providing servers or marketing + distribution in EU. And MH3U was considered to have sold quite well.

  • AkiraScare

the last 4 days of mh3u on sale… i hope that it comes to the west…. especially cause of the online play on 3ds (^_^)

  • hongisfire

This is the reason why I glad capcom put MH in 3DS. Nintendo will support MH localization. unlike certain comp*Shot

  • $61526767

Never experienced a MH game before, I can wait on this one for my 3DS. I really find them fun to play.

  • Luis Edgar Flores Gutierrez

Maybe they mean “American” audience, rather than Western. I hate how Japanese developers still play the Senpai-Kohai toward Americans.

    • glenngunnerzero

In my time playing MH3U on the Wii U, I actually think there was more Europeans I grouped with than American. Though this may have just been chance There’s no way there’s not some kinda European Presense that wants to play the latest Monster Hunter.

      • Ony

Wait “west” means “America” ? :(
#BringMH4WorldWide would be more accurate if so.

  • Go2hell66

Capcom plz. the games already sold 2mil, just bring over the damn game

    • Ethan_Twain

What does popularity in Japan have to do with localization? That it’s selling well in Japan does not in any way suggest that there’s an equally rabid audience elsewhere.

    • Namuro

I don’t mean to be s spoilsport, and I really do hope that they’ll localize the game for everyone to enjoy, but its popularity in Japan doesn’t mean it will have the same effect elsewhere. Even though fans from various gaming sites show clear support of the game, but as we all know that games like GTA still dominate the western market, and the fact that a lot of casual gamers probably don’t even know or have even heard of Monster Hunter before will be ignoring the western release of MH completely (while I’m sure that almost every kind of gamers, and even non-gamers know of GTA).

Also, I think they want to keep MH3U on the market for a while longer, especially for those who only just got into the series, and those who are still undecided to join. If they release MH4, even by the beginning of 2014, it would hurt the sale of MH3U (although I can understand the pain of waiting for those who had been playing Monster Hunter since the early ones).

Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best though!

  • Azure Flame

I’m glad Capcom is paying attention to the western fans. Id be very happy if we get it 2014.

  • Gil Anthony

    Good Guy Capcom~

  • Link

Basically its: “Its coming over but since you just got MH3U 6 months ago we’ll make you wait a little longer ;) *cough* WiiU version included *cough*”

Also I think Nintendo TreeHouse is helping with the translations this time around.

  • KiTA

This is good news — trust me, when they don’t have anything good to say, they don’t reply at all. (See also: Square Enix and Nintendo re: Dragon Quest in the US.)

  • jugss

    omg omg pls!!!!!

  • Otaku-Sama

… I want a Vita version if that is possible.
(well, what I really want is a PSP version or the localization of the latest PSP version, but I know than that is asking too much, orz.)

    • mike dickson

i would like a psp version as well but the psp is dead in the west due to hackers but hey 3ds isn’t as bad to be honest i played mh3ultimate fucking loved that game

  • 60hz

better than the silent type (sega)…

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Never been into MH. Let’s hope this changes my mind.

  • Red Arrow

As much as Capcom claims they want MH to be successful in the west they seem really damn apprehensive about even trying to make it happen.

  • sd28

will buy if it comes out

  • AdhesiveBoy

They localized the first three PSP titles when the series was virtually unknown in the west. I don’t see why they wouldn’t localize the potentially biggest game so far, when the series is bigger than ever.
