Learn All About One Piece Unlimited World: Red’s Original Story

By Eugene . September 25, 2013 . 3:38pm

One Piece Unlimited World: Red keeps getting more enticing for fans. First came the news that arch-villain Red and new buddy Pat are getting the original treatment, having been designed by One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda. Now, Namco have shared new information on the game’s story alongside a new trailer.

Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew meet up with Pat, a tanooki with the mystical power to change leaves into whatever he’s written onto them. Pat requests that they bring him to “That island where I can meet someone”–an island inauspiciously called The Forgotten Island. But waiting for them on the island is “The Earl” Red, a pirate who’s escaped from pirate prison Impel Down’s level 6–the deepest part of the prison.

Pat then mysteriously transforms into a quill pen which Red takes for himself, claiming the power as his own. Near the end of the video, Red’s also spotted about to bite into what appears to be a Devil Fruit–the fruits which give many One Piece characters their powers, such as Luffy’s rubber body. The trailer also shows off some of the bosses Luffy and his team will fight against, such as classic pirate Crocodile and Trafalgar Law. Why exactly they’re there has not been revealed.

Additionally, Namco have also shared a screenshot of the game’s pre-order bonus, which include a special mission where players can play as Ace, alongside the costume Luffy wore in the One Piece: Strong World movie (below). Ace’s special mission involves the Marine Ford arc and is a new, original mission, too.

One Piece Unlimited World: Red will be out for the Nintendo 3DS November 21st in Japan. The game will allow up to four players to play together.

EVERYBODY make sure they buy Romance Dawn 3DS localization so we can get this one.

    • subsamuel01

I’m definitely going to buy Romance Dawn brand new when it comes out so we can get this game.

    • deadMastershiro

Don’t worry i will preorder romance dawn like my life depends on it!

    • 3PointDecoupage

Day One. That games rocked on PSP.

    • British_Otaku

I’m not that interested in Romance Dawn and I can import this with ease, but I’ll help out anyway… I’ll use to catch up my little brother on the series given that FUNimation are too slow and none of the games but that aim to cover this broad amount of the story.

    • fairysun

When is this Romance Dawn game going to be released?

      • TheExile285

Namco hasn’t give a set release date yet.

      • British_Otaku

Where do you live? If you live in the States, Namco Bandai hasn’t set a date, if you live in Europe, it is set to release in November this year.

I expect a more exact date soon, given that Europe will get the game in lots of languages, there isn’t much reason why America should be much later.

  • DarkPhoenix

I hope that, just like Romance Dawn, we get a port to another system like the Vita. I
really don’t want to buy another console just for it to end up collecting dust once I finish the game.

    • TheExile285

Considering that Romance Dawn PSP is most likely playable on Vita in Japan via PSN, I don’t see Namco porting this Vita. Its also worth noting that Namco chose not to localize the Vita version of Pirate Warriors 2 EVEN though they localized the PS3 version so i wouldn’t hold my breathe mate. :/

I guess you could always get a 2DS? I would personally recommend 3DS XL though, especially since you are a Vita owner. Looking at my XL and Vita, I don’t know how anyone could play freakishly small portables like normal 3DS anymore xD.

  • oh playing as Ace? that has me giddy

    • British_Otaku

Ace was a standard character in all of the previous Unlimited games (Unlimited Cruise SP had a Marineford mode of it’s own), in fact all of the Ganbarion One Piece games so I’m a bit peeved that he is separate from the main course here…

I guess I’m giddy to play as him too since this is the only game I will be preordering this year.

  • Frozen_kappa

From the trailer it seems Pat is the one that created the past characters as you can see what looks to be golden bell from skypeia, the “cherry blossoms” from drum island, the dragon from Punk Hazard. Pat says his “oyabun” (a title for like a boss of a gang or mafia etc. ) made them using him, which seems to be Red.

    • British_Otaku

Yep, the pieces fall into place nicely.
Now all the game needs to do is make the character interactions with Pat fun and make it believable why Pat works for Red.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Doesn’t that samurai from Punk Hazard have that same power? Turning leaves into whatever.

    • Göran Isacson

TECHNICALLY, no. His power is that he ate, if I recall correctly, the Tanuki Fruit which allows him to turn into the mythical Tanuki animal, AND use the generic magical powers usually ascribed to Tanuki. While it’s kind of lazy, it’s not technically the exact same thing as a “fruit which allows you to transform leaves into things”. It’s like one fruit holds a specific tanuki spell, another fruit holds the whole tanuki-payload.

So yeah: if you split enough hairs it’s not the same, but still kind of repetitive.

      • Leon Saw

Actually, the samurai is based more on a kitsune. And his DF allows him to trasform objects (not just leaves but other stuff like rocks too) into costumes, technically referencing the kitsune’s ability to disguise themselves.

      • British_Otaku

I don’t believe we know what fruit Kin’emon ate yet. I just assume that he ate some generic magic magic fruit which gave him the ability to do Clothes Beam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsL82F-SdTE ) and speak with his farts.

After reading what you said though I mused over the possiblity of Pat dying and providing the fruit that Kin’emon eats but then I realised I’m thinking too much since this has to be after they meet him (as the memories feature Law -> then where is Kin’emon, his son or Law?) but also before they meet him (as he needs to eat the fruit -> Time Paradox).

This is akin to the Second Movie having a logia which was basically a generic fluid and could be defeated by a sealed bottle.

        • 3PointDecoupage

I think talking through farts is a personal talent, or associated with law’s power.

          • British_Otaku

I get the feeling that just being able to change people’s clothes alone makes for very lame/metro power while losing the ability to swim.

I can’t say that I’m sure that his fire abilities or talking through farts have to be connected to his fruit, but it makes more sense to consider a fruit than assume that Law cutting you into pieces makes you able to talk and fight with just your legs or that a Samurai learnt how to do it because it would help him in battle (I guess it did in the long run)… >_>

          • Göran Isacson

I am just gonna jump in here and say how lovely a world One Piece world is, that we can have a discussion where “I think talking through farts is a personal talent” is a completely valid thing to say. Also as Leon Saw points out below (in a comment that for some reason hasn’t been validated yet) I was mistaken, Kinemon seems to have powers more closely related to the mythological kitsune, rather than the tanuki.

          • British_Otaku

Yep, I had a look again and his sword fighting style is called Kitsune-bi Ryu (Foxfire Style)… So we can expect him to be mythical Zoan like his son, but able to control the specific abilities like clothes beam and talking farts or have some abilities through other means. >_>

There aren’t many other manga where we debate over talking through farting being a trained abillity or element of a granted superpower, that’s for sure.

          • Göran Isacson

One Piece: for those who prefer sophisticated and erudite, deep discussions about the nature of fart-talking. Mmmyesss.

          • 3PointDecoupage

Does anyoe have the address for the SBS Corner? I feel like this a question for Oda himself.

          • Göran Isacson

Man, it kind of is, isn’t it? Unfortunately I think you need to write the questions in Japanese, so even if I knew the adress I don’t think I’d be able to writer to him :(

      • 3PointDecoupage

It doesn’t actually say, but he uses attacks called Fox Fire, so you could be right.

      • 3PointDecoupage

It doesn’t actually say, but he uses attacks called Fox Fire, so you could be right.

  • British_Otaku

I can see a guard mechanic for Zoro and a perfect dodge for Luffy and Nami against bosses and that the game still has the same “perform all of the attacks without falling down and the last hit(s) do more damage and guarantee drops” mechanic… It made a lot of sense in the older Unlimited games, I wonder if they will rebalance it again.

Multiplayer when Law switches around your hearts will be so fun. Everything is promising but the part about Ace and Marineford being held behind a preorder wall.

  • Prinny Dood

coooool i hope we get this game to talk about drooling
