.hack Trademark Filed By Namco Bandai, Cupcake Kingdom From Square Enix

By Spencer . September 27, 2013 . 3:03am

imageHere’s a little hope for .hack fans. Namco Bandai filed a new trademark for .hack in Europe. Perhaps, we’ll see the .hack games as PS2 Classics or a digital release of .hack//Versus?

Square Enix filed a new trademark too for Cupcake Kingdom. This trademark was registered by Square Enix Europe so it’s probably developed by the Western division.

    .hack//link please!!!!!!!

heck… .hack//G.U. as PS2 classic would make me happy too but new is always better.

    • malek86

.hack//Link? Come on guys, there’s no need to hurt ourselves such.

    • Altin

I would like me some classic .hack on my PS3.

  • Wait what

I feel like there’s a “something .hack maybe” hype every year or two. I’m going to not get my hopes up this time. Especially since we didn’t get LINK or Versus in America, so if this is something (.hack HD Collection would be grand) then I doubt we’d get it.

    • Time Sage

These where my thoughts. After GU ended Bamco seemed to give up on the series outside Japan. They started the link manga in english but I think it stopped for some reason and never finished, and that was the end of it. Aside from officially subbed versions of Quantum (A whopping total of 3 episodes) I don’t think we’ve gotten anything else.

Which is a total shame as I love the series and it was responsible for getting me into MMOs in the first place.

      • Balmung

The link manga stopped in japan aswell, they took a break on it after the 3rd volume to focus on finishing the game or w/e, but then they never returned to it :/

        • Lynx

The magazine it was running in got cancelled iirc.

          • Christopher Nunes

Really? That might explain it because Volume 4 of the manga series looked like it was in the planning stages with the preview on the back of Volume 3.

Why didn’t they go to another magazine then?

      • Wait what

Actually we did get a dub of Quantum, it’s on the BluRay I have of it. But I think the credit for that one should be going to Funimation, not Bamco. They’ve definitely given up on the series here. No LINK, no The Movie, no Versus.

But, honestly… I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but it might be for the best. From what I know about LINK and the stuff that is retconned in the OVA that comes with the Movie, .hack has gotten sillier and sillier. Not in a good way.

I’d be down for a whole new game with brand new characters and plots (not Kite look-alike discovers new secrets of Aura) or a HD Collection of IMOQ or GU, though.

        • Balmung

I actually enjoyed Link. I played and finished the japanese version and even though I didn’t understand a word of it, I quite enjoyed the gameplay. Really hoping for a hd collection or completely new game/series, although it might just be a localized Guilty Dragon

          • Wait what

Well yeah the gameplay of LINK seemed fine. It’s the story that is the problem. Although I haven’t played it myself, so maybe I’m wrong. The spoilers I got seemed bad, though.

          • wandering cat

I never understood the problem people had with LINK’s story. The manga was cancelled and isn’t canon so it shouldn’t even be considered and the game has a solid story with a great cast of characters. People get upset over Tokio going through the other parts of the series but it’s actually very well executed and they even explain that when they go through the “non-canon” parts (XXXX, Trilogy , etc) they’re just considered “what-if” scenarios that don’t affect the currently established canon.
I’m not a fan of the battle system though, but the story made up for it for me.

So, I have to say that Third Era is my favorite part of .hack so far because it goes deeper, not only into the newer media but it also sheds light on the older media as well, which is something we didn’t really get in First Era and was only truly touched upon in Second Era through infobooks and staff talk events.

          • Wait what

Well, I talked to someone who played it and had a huge issue with what happens with Aura in the game, and it sounded pretty bad.

          • wandering cat

Personally I liked how they actually gave Aura more of a purpose than just being a plot device (and after LINK she becomes central to everything and not just as some Ultimate AI)…but to be frank I didn’t care for the first four games at all so anything that keeps the series away from being like IMOQ is a plus in my book.

          • Wait what

Oh we couldn’t be more different, then. SIGN/IMOQ > all. Also, being the Ultimate AI is pretty central to everything, she’s a fully alive intelligence, and is like a Goddess in the game.

          • wandering cat

There’s no denying that SIGN is great, but I’d argue against IMOQ being better than LINK or GU. But that’s another thing for another time.
And being the Ultimate AI is a pretty neat thing but in GU it’s kinda shown that things can go on without her around. At least in Thanatos Report we get the full idea of why she really exists and what her “true” purpose is, rather than just being the daughter Harald could never have.

          • Wait what

Well yeah, because by the time GU rolls around she wasn’t really needed, plus she was working on her own little knights to fix things for her so although she didn’t do much directly she did have a presence felt throughout the entire of the roots/GU storyline. That being said, I actually would rather Aura not be around. I felt that her story was over after IMOQ and that it was better to leave her alone than to do the wacky things LINK did, and then The Movie just sorta felt like it was shoving her in there for the sake of rehashing as much about the old .hacks as possible. I also felt like the final villain of GU didn’t need to be what it was, although at the time I did dig that bit of IMOQ fanservice.

          • ShinobiBrown

In regards to gameplay mechanics, I can admit that GU and Link were improvements generally speaking. In regards to narrative, I highly disagree and say that IMOQ is far superior. CC2 wrote themselves into a corner and couldn’t write themselves out of it. G.U. is where the narrative started to fall apart but it was still passable. The typical shonen fighting tournament they used as a plot device was REALLY a step back from their previous pacing and writing though. I didn’t exactly get into .hack for typical shonen type story telling (and that’s all GU was). If I had, I wouldn’t have enjoyed SIGN, Liminality, and IMOQ as much as I did. All it amounts to is the tone of the .hack series changing from one thing to another, over time.

        • ShinobiBrown

I agree. This is the reason why I’d be down for an HD collection or them being released as PS2 classics in the store. Not a big fan of the direction the story took afterward. I still consider Project .hack as the golden era (SIGN, IMOQ, Legend of Twilight manga). .hack//conglomerate (GU, GU+, XXXX, Link etc.) is when it got REALLY silly. Too many Kite clones for my taste. Azure Kite was cool, then it all got out of hand, lol.

          • Wait what

SIGN and IMOQ are both the best .hack things ever. I enjoyed a lot of the other stuff from that era (AI Buster, Legend of Twilight, etc.), but that first anime and those first games were shining examples of excellence. I agree that things got sillier in the Conglomerate, but I still loved it. I was also like 16-17 at the time, so that may have played a part in it, but I loved roots and GU. It was the stuff that came after those that really started getting TOO silly. This “third era” we are in that started with LINK is really bad. Some recent retcons and one Kite clone too many were the final straws for me. Although I did enjoy Quantum, it’s ending was kind of bleh.

  • XypherCode

We need more .hack love :))

  • ShinobiBrown

dothack games as PS2 classics would be pretty fantastic. An HD collection would ALSO be excellent. Preferably IMOQ. Ever since G.U. I haven’t exactly been the biggest fan of the direction the story took. But I still like .hack generally.

  • Jesse

Either of those two .hack options sounds good to me. =D
Edit: I just noticed it said it was just for Europe. Hopefully, whatever it is will wander over here.

  • Zonic505

.hack HD Collection would be cool, especially since I should give the series another chance, but sadly, that’s probably not gonna happen.

  • Syn

Bet you both are mobile games, just saying what most of us are thinking.

  • $48552495

    inb4 mobile games

  • Renaldi Saputra

no digimon world trademark also in europe? that’s too bad :(

  • Neophoton

I’d buy the PS2 classics in a heartbeat. Even better if it were an HD collection.

    • $36598391

As long as it’s on both PS3 and VITA,
The four games are pretty short, Bandai could fit all of them on a Bluray disc and 2 sets of VITA game cards

Infection and Mutation one one VITA card
Outbreak and Quarantine on another card

      All in HD

  • Heropon

.hack series collection please . Hack//link is horrbile . Just Ignore it

  • Captain Levi

What. WAIT WHAT?! FKIN TAKE MY MONEY!! .hack!!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    .Hack is back!

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

The Versus with the movie would be nice. Funimation got the rights to re-release the previous anime so getting them to work on the movie seems possible.
A HD release of the original games but not separated would be great too (though I love the copies I have now, the box art and the OVA with them was spiffy!)

    I want .Hack//G.U HD on my Vita…

    • TheExile285

I’d freaking lose my **** if that happened! ^_^

  • Onizuka Gio Hikari

YES please be either a new .hack or hd collections! I give up on link but something new would be great.

  • TheExile285

Please no mobile or broswer games Namco (they already have that mobile .hack spinoff anyway).

A HD collection for for PS3 & Vita would be nice or a Vita remake of one would also be nice.

    Also this: http://gematsu.com/2013/04/dot-hack-keep-a-watchful-eye-out-for-future-developments

  • Ryan Chiu

How about .hack//G.U. HD Collection for the PS Vita, huh? Make it happen, Namco Bandai USA!

    • Ixbran

for PSVita and PS3 would be lovely

maybe include some new features, maybe even an online mode where you can make your own character that you play with online, and can be a new bonus party member to Haseo for offline.

      • Christopher Nunes

        That would be awesome! ^_^

    • $36598391

I doubt they could fit all three G.U. games on a single VITA card
If I remember correctly Bandai promoted the games stating that each game in the G.U. series was as long as the original four games combined

      • Ryan Chiu

Individually, they didn’t seem as long as all four games… But if they could jam all three Jak games into one Vita card, I’m sure they can do the same for .hack//G.U.

        • $36598391

I doubt it, the Jak games aren’t RPGs and hence don’t contain loads of text

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I was talking about that the other day XD awesome! I hope its something new or a HD Collection……and it gets localized

  • new_tradition

I’ve only played the G.U. games, so an HD version of the first 4 for PS3 would be splendid :3

    • Solomon_Kano

This. I never got to play the first 4, but I loved G.U. to death, so I’d love to have the originals on PSN. And G.U. too, of course~

  • http://www.fogalchemist.com/ caleb1993

I’d be more than willing to pay for PS2 Classics of the .hack// games. Truly, if it wasn’t for them – and Final Fantasy Tactics – I wouldn’t be into the JRPGs as much as I am.

I’d also be up for it being .hack//Link or a HD Collection of the games. Either of those would work for me as well.

  • Nice Boat Quatro

A .hack game that requiires only one disk.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      Yes

  • Xaltmas

Don’t do this to me, NamcoBandai. Don’t play with my heart like this.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I long to hear “Welcome To The World” again :3

  • doubleO7

I’d be all over an HD collection or Versus, though PS2 Classics are most likely.

    • Ferrick

hopefully it’d be the former, versus is good, but story-wise, it’s the lowest out of all of the series (due to obvious reasons)

      • Lynx

        Versus had a story?

I thought it was a fighter with no story.

        • Ferrick

          it kinda did

  • Joshua Myers

omg a sequel would be fking amazing

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 水木

I’ll come out and say mobile game so I’m not surprised later

  • Solomon_Kano

    I want to belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve!

  • Kitestwinblades

Whatever it is they can pretty much take my money NOW!

  • Learii

I like to see a new .hack game for ps3

  • Kornelious

Versus and PSN classics would both be awesome :)
These games are ridiculously expensive to buy now!

  • Just Tim

In hindsight, I will not find it hard to believe if Project X Zone was released here as to the West as a measure gauge of interest for various Namco Bandai in-house franchises; case in point, .hack.

  • Sapitntapit

.hack HD collection would make me a happy man.

    • yellowmage

And the best part is that they could save space by stripping out all the extraneous opening and ending credits! Because, unlike other series which are mostly self-contained adventures linked by an overarching narrative thread, the (first) .hack “series” is literally one game in four parts.

Ooh, and all four parts of .hack//Liminality, too, all on one Blu-ray! In a steelbook case!

  • Vitonofrio del Rosso

    hack//GU as ps2 classic trilogy :P i’m in!

  • Sardorim

I don’t mind more KIte and Black Rose!

  • Kaitou21

Please let it be .hack HD collection!!!!!!

  • Kamakuma

If we get an HD collection I’ll finally be able to play quarantine. :’3

  • Chris Lane

I hope the US gets whatever this is as well. A .hack or /gu hd collection would be awesome.

  • hazelnut1112

    .Hack HD collection please. PLEASE!!!!!?

  • souio

Meh, I’ll wait until Cupcake Kingdom III (VI in Europe) so it will be able to find its footing.

  • Rolling Guy

    .hack//Versus please!
