Destiny Of Spirits, Vita Monster Collecting RPG, Kicks Off Global Beta On October 24

By Spencer . October 3, 2013 . 11:03pm

Destiny of Spirits from Q Entertainment and Sony’s Japan Studio is a monster battling game for PlayStation Vita. What’s unique about the game is the types of monsters you collect are determined by the Vita’s GPS sensor. If you’re playing Destiny of Spirits in Japan you may collect youkai, but in the Americas you may catch creatures inspired by Native American mythology.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced a global beta test called the Nine Days of Destiny scheduled to begin on October 24 and will end on November 1. The beta test will allow players to collect all of the spirits and visit all of the areas in the game. Sony teased collaboration spirits and it looks like Toro and Kat from Gravity Rush might be in Destiny of Spirits.

Destiny of Spirits will be released as a free to play game for PlayStation Vita.

That’s a neat concept… but how am i supposed to collect youkai while in US?

    • Mr_SP

As I recall, you cannot *find* Youkai… (Though looking at the linked article, maybe you can? Or was that specific to the demonstration?) but you can trade for them with people in Japan who want Native American spirits.

Personally, I’m more concerned about whether or not the collection utilises Wi-Fi, and not just GPS. It should, but I’m still concerned.

      • KuroNathan

oh you can trade? good good so many f2p doesn’t allow trading

    • Learii

to do that you either trade someone from japan or go to japan and collect them

  • DragKudo

    that is really cool.
hope they expand it to other countries. Would be a good game for travellers

  • wererat42

Aren’t video games banned in Greece?

No creatures from Greek mythology for you.

    • Skeptika Crediblus

Are they? No wonder they’re so angry over there.

    “Global” beta….in Japan….hahaha!! Oh wait, I see Toro…

  • Finally a f2p in vita that seems worth playing in english

    • neocatzon

Looks much much better than what we already had. Who plays Samurai and Dragons anyway.

  • XiaomuArisu

    I want Kat!!!
Where do I need to live for Kat?

    • Mr_SP

Would I get shot if I said “Heksville”?

      • Invisbin

        *loads gun*

  • zferolie

By global beta… does that mean it’s coming here?

  • Göran Isacson

That IS a very cool concept. One wonders however how many markets and mythologies that will be covered, and how trading with the “popular” spirits will affect the meta-game. Will we see teams where popular stuff like minotaurs and oni will outsell bunyips, river nudes and those indonesian entrail vampire heads and everyone will just try to trade for those instead of actually bothering to figure out their local mythology? Could be quite an interesting sight…

  • J_Joestar

so instead of two versions with version-locked exclusives, it is one version with region-locked exclusives?
Well i guess it doesn’t matter as long as there are people you can trade with, although i wonder how many separate regions it will be divided into?

  • MyBodyIsReady

Well those collaboration characters certainly are a mystery.
