Pokemon X And Pokemon Y Introduce A Smelly Pokémon

By Ishaan . October 4, 2013 . 8:30am

Siliconera will begin its detailed hands-on coverage of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y later today, but in the meantime, The Pokémon Company has released information on two more Pokémon in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The two new monsters in question are Aromatisse and Slurpuff. Check them out below.

Aromatisse is a Fairy-type Pokémon, and is an evolution of Spritzee , and is capable of giving off different smells, from a pleasant fragrance to a repugnant odour that can turn the tide of battle.

Meanwhile, Slurpuff is an evolution of Swirlix. Also a Fairy-type Pokémon, it has a sense of smell “a hundred million times” stronger than a humans. It is able to distinguish the faintest of odours. I guess you wouldn’t want to put an Aromatisse around one of these guys.

Nintendo and GameFreak got the memo a couple of Pokemon generations late.

I’m old enough to remember when GameFreak has a massive bias towards Psychic-types, to the point Psychics are the de facto Legendary debutantes of many generations.

As for Fairies, I hope Psychics and Fairies would resist each other in the near future.

    • I’m pretty sure we all know a Z version of X & Y will be released in the future, it would be cool if the legendary for that game was a fairy/dragon.

Sure, you know how stats don’t matter, only type matchups? Ah, the fond memories of my mighty Magikarp beating the hell out of every Ho-Oh and Volcarona he’s fought! Also, the unforgettable victories of my vicious Caterpie, the one that beat down countless Alakazam and Mewtwo! Good times.

Armoatisse is clearly inspired by Aubrey Beardsley’s drawings for Oscar Wilde’s version of “Salome.” That is absolutely brilliant.

So Swirlix evolves into an Oompa Loompa?

  • 3PointDecoupage

    Slurpuff. The Diabetes pokemon.

Does anyone picture the notion of Salamence, running away from Aromatisse? That just sounds wrong, as someone who actually enjoyed 1-weakness Dragons, pre Gen. VI.

Also, speaking in meta, I’m glad that Ghost/Dark’s canonical/RetCon’d weakness now is Fairy. Say goodbye to Wondertomb, hackers!

In addition, I’m glad Poison/Dark dual-types are still one-weakness, which is Ground. Seeing how I’m a fan of Drapion…

  • It’ll be…

Sweet to take down any Dragon-types using Slurpuff.

You can barrow my glasses ⌐■-■

I see Aromatisse having a high trade value just because it sounds like not that many will be getting Pokemon Y and even less might actually go through the trouble to obtaining one just to trade it.
