Do A Barrel Roll To Dodge Flying Boulders In Drakengard 3

By Sato . October 6, 2013 . 11:28pm

Last week, we got a tease of Drakengard 3’s air battles, where protagonist Zero will be mounting her fire-breathing friend, Mikhail, to dominate fights from above. 4Gamer gives us another look at some of the aerial action we’ll be seeing in the game.

Mikhail’s breath attacks will have a lock-on feature, which will also make it possible to target multiple foes at once. Additionally, Zero will also be able to activate her deadly “Utautai Mode” while riding Mikhail as well, which further increases the destructive power of the breath attacks.

There will be some aerial enemies capable of launching huge boulders at Zero and Mikhail, so you’ll be required to use some evasive maneuvers to dodge them.

This game looks better and better. I still got money waiting on this game.

  • Chiupon

I want a mikhail trailer just so i can hear that cute ass babby shota dragon voice.

  • MrJechgo

LOL… here’s the catch: that is NOT an actual Barrel Roll. In flight terms, to spin around in a single axis similar to what you can do in Star Fox is called an Aileron Roll.

    Here’s the proof:

    • Barney Wills

      your proof sucks lol

  • Göran Isacson

Interesting- buildings which look like they belong in the modern world, more than Drakengard’s fantasyverse… or maybe they’re taking place in the Imperial capital, e.g the last stage of Drakengard?

    • Belenger

Fantasyverse….you mean Tokyo? as in the same Tokyo in Nier?, heck even some maps are the same just upside down, thought the location was clear with all the info through years with dev talk and final confirmation in Grimoire Nier.

      • Göran Isacson

Nope, I meant what I wrote- the last two pictures look like they depict skyscrapers, looking like they do in our world. Not the imagined world in which Drakengard takes place in, which to my memory did NOT have skyscrapers. Also yes I do know that Drakengard world is our world only with a reversed map, but it has fantastical monsters and a new world-layout, hence I call it a fantasy world.

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Drakengard already has Modern-like city from the first game. It is located in Empire’s capital (Not-Spain in the world map).
And hell, Drakengard world has ton of massive airpship and even laser cannon.

          • Göran Isacson

Ah, so it IS from the capital. I couldn’t remember seeing any highrise buildings when you were running around on the ground, but I do recall that the capital had very tall buildings- just didn’t know if they were “medieval style” towers or actual skyscrapers. Now I know!

… Though now I’m further curious. What I’ve heard so far indicates this is a prequel (I think this is what someone on this site told me was the case) to Drakengard 1, but the capital was ruined in that game. Making me wonder where THESE ruins that Zero is flying could be…

          • Rayhan PromisedGallery

in the cutscene where grostequeries babies landed, you can clearly see those are modern skyscrapers

also, Nier (mainly on Shinjuku, Japan) has similar ruins

  • The storyline confuses me, when is this game set in relation to the first two and Nier?

    • ZenTzen

Drakengard 3 is a prequel to the first game, where pacts which is a plot point from the first game still dont exist, while Nier is based on one of the endings of the first game, where Caim the MC and Angelus the dragon from the first game go to another dimension resembling current era Tokyo and while there after defeating the final boss the grotesquery queen, they get killed by JSDF jets, after that the queen starts dissolving into maso, some kind of particles that cause the human race to turn into monsters or straight up die, while the dragons maso is used later to develop the magic present in Nier

Drakengard 1, Nier and Drakengard 3 are made by the same team, while Drakengard 2 was made by a different team, just something to keep in mind

      • I’m aware that 2 is made by a different teame but for now it still seems to be part of the series canon.

        • ZenTzen

sure, as well as nier is considered a part of this series as well, just saying all endings in D1 can be considered cannon, but the only games, its storys characters, etc, made by the original team are only D1, Nier and D3

      • Guest

2 was kinda confusing seeing caim and angelus. so I guess game wise its canon but story wise…. no

  • Vash bane

    wait a minute
    – squints eye’s- looks at last two screens

so that’s why people are saying this has something has something to do with nier(I hope story wise…you those little details)

I sorta had no idea it was in modern times this is pretty neat. now I feel like finishing 2 …even though I don’t really don’t like the story…not that I remember anyway (been a year or so lol)

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

      Drakengard 1 already has modern-city.

Though i hope this game will also has connection with Nier, and not just “simply” a prequel

      • Vash bane

is that from the true ending?(sadly I don’t remember much)

now that you mention ive been hearing lastly that this game was a prequel I didn’t even now that.

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

no, all ending requires you to go there.
It’s just that in ending E you got to transported into another modern metropolis (Tokyo)

  • Abriane Enairba

im forcing papa to buy the special edition of this for me XD
