The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Has Two Worlds And Two Princesses

By Ishaan . October 11, 2013 . 12:38pm

Nintendo have shared a brand new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS. The trailer shows off a number of scenes from the game that we haven’t seen before, including the game’s villain and scenes with Princess Zelda herself. Check the trailer out below.

See the other new lady character in the game? Like A Link to the Past, this game will feature two worlds—Hyrule and Lorule. While Zelda is obviously a part of Hyrule, Lorule’s counterpart to her is called Hilda. Take a look at the two characters below.

As previously reported, A Link Between Worlds will allow players to explore dungeons in an order of their choosing. More details on this feature can be found here.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be available on November 22nd.

  • SwiftWind

I don’t know about anyone else but I love the artstyle for this game.

  • Luis Camargo

Dar Link might be back too ?

    Gotta Hammer him down…..again.

  • ZnTxn

Lorule… they never run out of puns, aren’t they?

  • Xaltmas

  • Spirit Macardi

Calling it: she’s related to Midna.

    • DragKudo

I’m thinking Demise too. He had the inverted triforce on his sword

      • Steven Higgins

But I thought Ganon was the reincarnation of Demise?

        • ChristyKf9

He is, but Demise is basically the father of all demons/monsters and pretty much the god of dark magic. Add that to the inverted triforce it’s not unreasonable to thin that a world of darkness could be related to him.

        • DragKudo

what he said. Ganon was just the manifestation of his hatred. Demise is still trapped within the master sword and he said IIRC he would return..

  • yorudox

    I like hilda, and (high)rule and (low)rule

  • jonsoh

What is this, Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

  • Malon

I think I’m getting used to the artstyle of the game. The cinematics still look a bit weird, but damn, the game looks GORGEOUS.
    I love Hilda’s design.

    • NimbusStev

It looks fantastic! It’s like they took the old concept art from Link to the Past and mixed it with the OoT remake graphics.

  • Ramengeddon

    Where is Sabrina?

  • HyperDrive

my thing is, this is suppose to be a sequel to (Link to the past)but Legend of Zelda DX for GB was the sequel to LotP. Then what the hell is DX. A sequel to between worlds or is it between Link to the past and between worlds.

    • ChristyKf9

Link’s awakening is more like an interquel or side story than a true sequel.

  • Makar85

I don’t get all the puns about Sabrina, is it just because the princess is named Hilda?

    • Yes and they’re completely understandable puns. I think Nintendo did this one on purpose XD

      • Makar85

I’m not trying to be mean or anything i just really don’t get the humour. But hey, whatever floats your boat…

        • InfectedAI

Sabrina’s aunts are Zelda and Hilda, hence the jokes.

          • Makar85

Aaaahhh see i did not know that the other one was named Zelda! Well i apologise for my ignorance

        • Slayven19

Sabrina aunts have the same names so I can see why its funny. Not everyone would know this either so its understandable not to laugh I guess.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Oh snap I just got where the references were about XD

  • doubleO7

Was the villain a female Gerudo? Thats different.

    • Suicunesol

Looks like the child of Ghirahim and Vaati to me.

      • How does that work? Was she adopted by them?

        • Suicunesol

          *through magic*
I didn’t mean literally. And I think that’s a “he”. He borrows elements from both villains, especially the laugh.

  • Chaos_Knight

    A female Ganondorf?

    Rule 63.

  • Guest

This games sounds great, I just hope they use the dual screens cleverly!

    • It seems the bottom screen so far is only for maps/items like OoT3D. They seem to be going more for traditional gameplay, I think.

    • TruSpindash

Phantom Hourglass had that one puzzle that involved drawing on the touch screen than closing the DS so that the drawing would appear on the top screen. I always thought that was one of the most clever uses for the two screens.

      • DragKudo

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! THAT would have made playing that game a lot easier. i didn’t even know you could do that.

  • HyperDrive

I get it now, hyrule and lorule, High and low like the Triforces on the logo

  • HyperDrive

    ganondorf’s sister

  • kylehyde

On topic: my hype for this game has increased a lot. The more details I know about this game the more I want it. Generally I don’t preorder in nintendo first party title (the distribution is good enough that I can get my copy easily on the first day) but this time I will preorder because I want to enjoy this game as soon as possible.

Offtopic: All right why the people is downvoting the coments related to Sabrina? lets have a little of humor, personally I love the reference even If I don’t know if it was intentional. I loved when Square Enix (or maybe nintendo localization team since they localized the tittle on the west) put a reference in Dragon Quest IX about the Simpsons in the form of Patty and Sellma.

    • Ixbran

dont forget, Final Fantasy has Biggs and Wedge, who are named after star Wars characters

LoZ could have Zelda and Hilda, unintentional as it may, or may not, be, its still a wonderful connection for fans to see. I my self didn’t care for this game, but after learning about Hilda, and making the connection to Sabrina, I find my self wanting this game badly.

I grew up loving the live action sabrina the teenage witch series. so this game not only gives me LoZ Classic feels, but also feels for a show i loved when i was younger.

Its interesting how something as simple as that is capable of making people change their minds, for better or worse, when it comes to games.

  • Chanka

Feel like they kind of missed the chance to use this as another Midna incarnation

  • Junko Enoshima

Wait a second, could this be what I think it is???

    • kylehyde

Yes it is, a Link to the Teenage Witch (pun intended)

      • Junko Enoshima

When it hit me, I just groaned. XP

    • AuraGuyChris

      Uh, seriously, I don’t get it…

EDIT: Aunt Hilda & Aunt Zelda

      Princess Hilda & Princess Zelda.

      • Göran Isacson

Oh my god I just got it too.

Oh my god. It is true. You DO shit bricks when you see it.

    • ShadowDivz

      Hentai is gonna get weird…

      • Vash bane

        isn’t it already? …wait

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      you win the internet today

    • Lumi

I thought there’s something familiar about that pair of names and this photo… Ahahaha Nintendo is seriously trolling here

my childhood is passing through my eyes now.

    • JNT

      Waiting for that Salem DLC

    • David García Abril

So… we should expect a Sabrina somewhere?

    • fairysun

20 years is forever in Hyrule time.

    • Hector Velar

      it does feels like forever…

    • Sergio Briceño

      Unless… That is Lorule’s Master sword… :)

      • I really hope that’s the case, in a serious note :p
I actually thought about it and it would be smart.

      • Weeb

Wait shouldn’t it be Lorule’s Servant Sword?

  • Slayven19

I love the hilda look, the purple hair and lipstick makes her look different. Hope its a color option in smash.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Its the hairstyle

  • Brimfyre

So if the reverse of Ganon is a female Ganon, then I think Hilda has a little secret.

Admiral Ackbar might have something to say on the subject.

    • I have the same outlook after watching that end part. We’ll see though.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Reverse Ganon is the Blue Boar.

      Red thingy is Yuga

  • leingod

I love the dark world princess, but the name “Lorule” I don’t like as much. Sounds too much like LOL-rule :P

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      • leingod

Heh, still sounds lame XD … Hilda on the other side, is perfect.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Is there a Bizarro Link too? And a Navi who can shut her trap for 5 seconds? And a Tingle who ISN’T a freak? And you can stab the Cuccoos all night long because they’re suicidal.

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha I want ALL of this. In fact I want a Link who behaves like Tingle and a Tingle who behaves like Link and ACTUALLY goes around saving and helping people… but because LoLink is more handsome and a total sleaze who macks on ALL the girls who fall for him, nobody gives LoTingle the time of the day.

    • Blackbishop

      Maybe Dark Link?

    • Blackbishop

      Maybe Dark Link?

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Beedle is the dimensional traveling entrepreneur

  • Nameless App 1989

    Hyrule = High Rule
    Lorule = Low Rule

Am I the only one that that was what Hyrule meant before this revelation?

  • isotrex

    Hilda should’ve been a brunette. :D

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

nah that’s what the hero of time and zelda swap between.

      Unless you’re Tetra.

  • Dagobert

  • Uso Ewin

    High and Low…

  • ShadowDivz

Oh my god…. I JUST GOT IT!
a LINK between worlds! Because the worlds are LINKed and LINK is the main character going between the worlds!

    • mike dickson

    • Arrei

      Detective Gumshoe, is that you?

  • Jon McGuire

Pump it into my veins Nintendo. Day 1.

  • hilda looks amazing!!!

  • DCBlackbird

The whole anime purple hair with the red eyes give me a creepy vampire vibe

  • DCBlackbird

    Lorule? LOrule… Lowrule…. Low rule….. hahahahahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Lumi

Ohhh…. They seriously went all punny on this one!

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      TW101 joke lol

  • Ethan_Twain

Wonderful! An evil clown villain that doesn’t look like a Kefka knockoff? I’m in. A non-Zelda NPC of import? I’m in! It’s the non Zelda important characters that define and make their games special after all (Midna, King of Red Lions, Ezlo).

  • Lloyd Christmas

Looks like a pretty solid game. Hoping it washes the terrible taste of Skyward Sword out of my mouth.

  • Göran Isacson

That song at 1:23… is that a reworking of Death Mountain theme? ACES.

Also I have to admit that the evil clown doesn’t really fill me with awe… he looks like a very pale Gerudo, but not as imposing as Ganon. I do wonder who will end up being the ultimate villain here.

Also, I am forever giggling at Lorule. And Hilda seems to be a little bit sketchy… interesting.

  • Prinnydoom

Damn its a toss up between this and watch dogs. Nintendo you devious bunch.

  • NimbusStev

It’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited about Zelda.

  • Sergio Briceño

Hot alternate world princess is hot.

  • Zero_Destiny

I went from pretty skeptical to really excited about this title. This newest trailer was great. Hoping it’ll live up to my new found excitement.

  • Steven Higgins

I see a love Triforce with Link in the middle.
Hilda: “The hero Link shall be mine.”
Zelda: “Back off skank! I new him first and we were like, totally married in another life so yeah.”
Link: *Opens his mouth to speak for the first time ever*
Hilda&Zelda: “You stay out of this!”

  • Just Tim

Is this a brand-new timeline, or a sequel to one of the many timelines?

I’m really reluctant to divulge in Legend of Zelda, because of the comic book-like amount of timelines in this franchise.

    • ChristyKf9

It’s a sequel to a link to the past which is on the hero dies timeline. It takes place centuries after a link to the past but before the legend of Zelda.

  • Windom

Hilda and Zelda. ヒルダ and ゼルダ. Even the katakana looks similar!

  • icecoffemix

So Link’s counterpart will be called… Honk?

  • ChristyKf9

So if the worlds are flipped what if the person who looks like a female Ganon is really good but pretending to be evil, or is crazy but good, like how Ganon was evil but pretended to be good…and wouldn’t it mean that Hilda might actually be evil. Or even worse what if Hyrule’s Ganon was the “good” counterpart o.0?

    • DragKudo

Then Hilda must be some evil tyrant.

  • Vash bane

    that music O_O

  • Brimfyre

I thought it was silly at first, but if you think of the etymology of the word Hyrule from the perspective of the citizens it still makes sense. The Hyrulians originally came from the clouds, so Hy probably actually comes from meaning exactly how it sounds: High Rule.

So in Lorule, I’m hoping the exact opposite is the same. The people came from the ground to found Lorule and not the sky, thus it would become Lorule.

    Makes perfect sense.

    • DragKudo

Wasn’t that mentioned in Skyward sword? That there was another race of people that wasn’t accepted by the goddess to live in skyloft. They called them demons.

  • Me thinks Link should dump Zelda and get with Hilda, she seems a lot more independent.

  • Guest

So the Dark World isn’t going to be in A Link Between Worlds now?

I’m going to cancel my preorder!

  • Gilgamesh2025

Both princesses look adorable! Can’t wait! :)
